Brett Rheeder Withdraws from Red Bull Rampage

Brett Rheeder looking to take the win and the overall title for the season.

Last week, we reported that Brett Rheeder was on crutches just three weeks before Red Bull finals. While he still seemed hopeful that he would be able to rehabilitate his knee injury in time to head to the desert to compete, he has just shared on Instagram that he has withdrawn from this year's Red Bull Rampage, set to take place in just two weeks in Virgin, Utah. Rheeder finished first in the competition in 2018 and second in 2019.

bigquotesNo Red Bull Rampage for me this year.

A crash took me off the bike and put me into crutches on September 24th with a minor knee injury. From there I spent the following week rehabilitating my knee with @damienmoroney in hopes that we could see enough improvements to go ahead with Rampage.

We made insane progress! But unfortunately not enough for what Rampage demands. Bummed for sure but this injury could be a lot worse, as of right now the prognosis is perhaps a sprained LCL or bad bone bruise (MRI results coming this week) Either way I think this will be a relatively short recovery.

Good luck to the riders and dig crews this year! Bummed I can’t be there with you but stoked to see what everyone builds and rides. Will be watching from home!

Until next year!
Brett Rheeder

We wish Rheeder the best of luck with his recovery.

We have confirmation that Brendan Fairclough has also withdrawn from the event and that Reed Boggs will now be competing. Remaining alternates for Red Bull Rampage are: Thomas Genon, Emil Johansson, DJ Brandt, and Antoine Bizet. We do not yet have confirmation on which of the four remaining alternates will be competing.

 DJ is up!!!

Is he the next on the list for sure? The order shown in the article doesn't imply that? I want dj on there for sure, his style is all his own which is rad!

he is the closet one to that area unless you throw your hat back in logan!

I think it will also be a little bit up to the helmet sponsor who gets the vote.

 bizet

@dh-corn: DJ is a desert legend and Bizet has a Rampage podium. If Genon or Emil get in over either of these dudes then it's a fn joke.
  • 1 0
@chriskneeland: Yeah Bizet definitely should've had it with two second places.

 @chriskneeland: As I said…

 so under scored

It's a shame that there aren't any stylish downhillers on the list this year. Brendog was the only one and now he's out there should have been a better mix of alternates (Kade, Kaos or Kerr would have been good choices imo)

Brage is pretty stylish if you ask me
  • 5 0
You forgot Brage mate, He is a former worldcup racer.
  • 1 1
@ChOu177: Ok, I do like him but I meant current wc racers. Steenbergen also races downhill but not the world cups we all watch.

@djm35: A lot of hassle for potential injury/death with zero chance at success. Those days are gone.
  • 2 1
@BenPea: So why did the three I mentioned do Hardline then? Two of them were also do Darkfest and Audi-nines.

I have a feeling it's only a matter of time before Kade & Kaos make an appearance. I'm not sure Kerr will get invited again after his antics the first time around though!

@djm35: True, who knows, just speculating. Maybe the queue's too big.
  • 2 0
@djm35: was mainly talking about the top guys, like Gee, Gracia back in the day. "Freeracers" more likely to want a shot at it'

Hope it's DJ. How he's not already in as a wild card is baffling.

 Lacondeguy takes it this year.

I’d love to see that happen.
  • 12 0
Lacondeguy could have taken it the last three except for the last jump.

@rallyimprezive: Who would not want to see that!
  • 1 0
He will always be my favourite, though Thomas Genon is in now and I love his style

Rheeder's tale up to now has had more ups and downs to it than Rampage itself. I'm seriously happy that Brett has resolved this in a healthy way, and will live to Rampage another day! Ba-Da-Bing!

Dylan starks gotta be in. He got 3rd at proving grounds and the guy is absolutely insane

ES-CT Catalonia is not a nation, neither independent, at least not yet. Andreu can feel from Saturn if he wishes but he's not.

Can't wait to see what Brage throws down!

Hoping for Emil, will be great to see how he stacks up against Semenuk in this format

Idk- McCaul said twice during that last contest that Tommy G was “confirmed to be competing in Rampage”. So who was he replacing?

Why has Kade Edwards not gotten an invite? Imagine a Brage to Kade battle at rampage. They both have potential to win.

I still don't understand why can not all the "alternates" be official riders and there would be 18 riders instead of 15. It is not like we talk about 10s or even 100s of extra riders like in a downhill world cup, we talk about 3 of the best freeriders/slope style riders on the planet trying to make it to the biggest FR comp of the year.
  • 6 0
There has to be a limit somewhere. If they took 18 riders in, there would still be amazing riders left behind on the alternate list.
  • 1 0
There's lots of great riders being thrown around as replacements, but a few things to keep in mind: Rampage is not WC, slopestyle or even Hardline; pulling monster tricks on this scale and terrain is a beast of its own. Also, with Covid it's pretty critical where the alternate is currently located. They start digging PDQ and if you're still overseas it's gonna be tough to get organized and make it. Seems like DJ or Stark are the best stylistic and logistical fits IMO...

This Rampage has seen more pulling out than a Buick’s back seat on prom night.
  • 1 0
Cam McCaul, during Sunday Slopestyle from Silverstar Crankworks, said that Tommy was the only rider present to participate in rampage. Don't know why they can't announce the replacement in the same post as the withdrawal...

Super bummed I won't see him in Rampage this year but believe it was the correct decision. Curious to see who gets in from the alternates
