Round 1 of the 2017 British Cycling HSBC UK British 4X Series - powered by Schwalbe Tyres
Round 1 of 2017 went off at Chicksands in Bedfordshire. The venue was chosen because of its weather proof, sandy soil and just as well! Heavy rain before and during the race meant slick conditions and some drifty, slideways action through motos and into finals.
The track treated racers to a heap of super fun corners and big floaty jumps. The tricky bit was stringing it all together and staying upright enough to carry speed section to section. The fast as hell right / left chicane was the highlight of the day with non-stop do or die overtakes and plenty of bar to bar action.
4x's prodigal son Tom Dowie made a come back to racer after 6 years away making a fortune in the Beard Oil game. He was (he said) peer pressured into racing but showed no lack of bike skills taking a clean sweep all day. 2nd in elite went to Connor Hudson and 3rd to Nathan Parsons.
The women's field was won by Tyde D'Souza with Megan Wherry in 2nd and Leah Clinch in 3rd. Wondering where Natasha Bradley was? She switched to race in the men's field after a dominant 2016 - placing 3rd in 19-29 men.
4X is looking strong for 2017 with more and more tracks open for business, a full national series and heaps of BMX tracks allowing big wheels in the gate. Anyone looking for some bar to bar action can enter the British 4X Series Big Fun category without a license is welcome on any (well maintained!) mountain bike.
