 British downhill series?

Rd 1 - 10th and 11th of April at Rheola - South Wales
Rd 2 - 8th and 9th of May at Fort William - Scotland
Rd 3 - 26th and 27th of June at Llangollen - Wales
Rd 4 - 7th and 8th of August at Moelfre - Wales
Rd 5 - 25th and 26th of September Caersws - Wales

Perhaps a better name would be "Welsh downhill series with a quick trip to Fort William".

hahaha thats a good one !

Name a track in England that is good enough to hold a National? Last few years Scotland have had it all their way. Would you rather ride shit tracks scattered all across the country?
  • 1 0
never ridden there myself, but Gawton sounds pretty good? dunno if its national standard though
  • 1 0
It is national standard. There are talks to hold a National there in 2011. But currently it lacks the structure to have a national. There is a problem with the route for uplift tractors, as well as there being a very small finish area. Plans are being made to extend the track by 20 or so seconds so that it finishes in a field and hopefully a route can be made for the tractors.

nice, I had an inkling that that was the case.. just wondering as you might know, are there going to be any races held at cwmcarn again?
  • 1 0
As it's a forestry commission track it's doubtful. Although the schedule for the Welsh Series says there may be a round at either Cwmcarn/Mountain Ash/Gethin. So we might see a round there for the last round of the Welsh series this year. I'd love to race there because it's a track I favour myself on!
  • 1 0
I really hope so as its very close to me!
  • 2 0
How do I get to race it? All is on the following link:

www.britishdownhillseries.com/news/2010news/EntryCriteria.html

International riders wanting to race the fastest DH nation in the World?

Then drop me an e-mail with your UCI ranking or country of license ranking. Back that up with a url link to your results and i'll give you the nod that you can enter.

Cheers.

 Si,

The purse on offer looks pretty good i have to say, is that more than previous years? Are you investing to make this more of an international series?
  • 1 0
I have to agree with duir,I boubt scottish, english or irish people want to have to travel to wales all the time with one stop at fort william.Seems abit unfair.
  • 2 0
They may not want to travel so far but for a proper hill/mountain that can offer national level racing its a must really , its only 5 rounds to.
  • 1 0
do you need points to enter into this series? if so how dya get them? just curious?
  • 1 0
All the info you need is on the website Smile

  • 2 0
How come its not called the NPS anymore?
  • 2 0
think the organisers have changed, not 100% sure though
  • 2 1
Probably because it's not national (one country), it also has fort william in so they called it the 'British downhill series'. I think lol.
  • 2 0
National means the UK. I believe they changed it because 'National Points Series' doesn't say anywhere that it's British.
  • 1 0
 Ah okay (:
  • 1 0
they changed it because national points series doesnt mean anything to someone who doesnt do dh, but if you make it with the word downhill in it, then people know what sport it is
  • 1 0
NPS sounds better imo, its a shame to change it. At the end of the day though, this series looks to be even better and I cant wait to get involved in a year or two!
  • 1 0
just a shame a lot of non bikers still wouldn't know what DH is
  • 1 0
But at least they can find out now. They may not know what DH is, but at least now they know that it is about downhill, the NPS didn't say that. The organisers have also changed. Steve Parr has stepped down and Dave Franciosy has stepped up and helped Si with organising and creating a wicked website.

Lcobb, We gave over £10k away in cash in 2009, we've always been as generous as we can!

Sounds like a sick race series. But on a side note, it's NOT a new decade. We started at the year "1", so therefor 2011 is the start of a new decade.
  • 2 1
well as soon as i can enter (14th of feb) my money is sitting here ready to enter every round!!!

i cant wait Razz

im so up for this!
already training 4 days a week and riding 1 or 2 days at the weekend Razz bring it!
  • 4 2
Don't loose any sleep Si, it is a new Decade.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_decades
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decade
  • 4 5
Betsie it isnt a new decade i hate when people say it is the new decade doesnt begin untill 2011 begins thus making it 10 full years
  • 4 0
Funny how 'BDS' doesnt appear entirely dissimilar to 'BDSM' - Does this mean lycra is permitted? Razz
  • 6 2
yes it is the start of new decade charleyboy. rember 2000 was the start of a millenium and a new decade, therefore any year ending in '0' is the start of a new decade!
  • 2 1
Betsie, you should PROBABLY read the links you post before you post them. "Some writers[6] like to point out that since the common calendar starts from the year 1, its first full decade contained the years from 1 to 10, the second decade from 11 to 20, and so on."
  • 2 3
I'm sorry to have this debate on an article like this as its totaly irelevent but Rob-K what i said was totaly right
  • 1 0
Shut up! Can anyone tell me why all the rounds are in wales apart from fort bill? Surely the british downhill series should be held throughout this island?
  • 2 1
Because English tracks are pretty shit, and the good ones tend to be on private land where the landowners cant afford the insurance to/dont want to have an event being held there
  • 2 0
All races now pretty much have to be held on private land because of insurance. Don't start moaning about the rounds being in wales. Last year you had a load of Scottish rounds and again the year before. I think this years schedule is sick.
  • 2 0
Its annoying for riders who live way up near inverness, If there was a balance between the two then we all get a fair share of riding, but since most of the rounds are in wales, us guys up here who cant afford to travel 450 miles only get to race one round =\
  • 2 0
So what about the guys from down South that last year, and the year before have had to travel 450 miles for almost every round?
What are you suggesting? Use Inners (AGAIN), use AE (AGAIN)?
  • 2 0
No, I suggest that the races are split evenly over the entire Island so everyone gets as much of a slice as the next person. AE is shit I agree, but Inners has so many different tracks, you can hardly say it'd be repetative holding it on a different bit of the hill.
  • 2 0
Inners has been used so many times now. It was used last year, twice the year before and for about 10 years before that. People are getting bored of going there. There is always complaints when people see Inners on the schedule. As Si said. If you want tracks near you, go out and dig some.
  • 2 0
 Haha, who says I dont?

Fair enough then as far as Inners is concerned.
  • 2 0
Well then contact him. And you might have a National in Scotland.
  • 1 0
 Sda not good enough?
  • 1 0
wish they had something like this in canada
  • 5 0
 nice oneee Big Grin
What cat yoou in?
Canada has sick trails thooo
  • 2 0
Dezim there is. Its called the Canada Cup.
  • 2 0
ooh geez how could i forget, im gonna blame it on sleep deprivation Wink . im racing bc cup u-17 this year, gonna be siick!
  • 2 0
 See you there!
  • 1 0
how do u get in the uci
  • 1 0
To get UCI points u need to be coming within top 20 fastest times at a these races. I think only 3 of them offer the points.
  • 1 0
Correct. The first 3 rounds carry UCI points but only the top 20 elites can get UCI points, not the top 20 fastest racers.
  • 1 0
Just curious, does the top elite get 20 uci points and the 20th elite 1 point?
  • 1 0
I think so yes. Not 100% certain though.
  • 3 2
 No we started year "O".
