Sunday July 22 was the day. Kirt Voreis was in town for the Santa Cruz All Ride Tour
. It was a great opportunity for people to really test ride Santa Cruz bikes. The day started early with us meeting Kirt and his two techs, Travis and Rex. They had their trailer loaded with Blur LT’s, Blur XC’s and some Nomads. We brought some of our bikes too, the new Bullit and the V10.
The XC riders were super keen and got there early to take advantage, getting some great rides in on the Blurs. Some even mentioned that it was an opportunity to ride their “dream bike”. Things were moving along exceptionally well when Parks came by and told us we had to move. It turns out that we needed a permit to set up at Station Flats. OOOPS! The parks guys were super cool. After explaining the situation we thanked them for their understanding and we moved the show to the bottom of the Moose Mountain road. It turned out that it was perfect timing. By that time all the DH and freeriders started showing up. We had the “CC Wildebeest” there. It’s the old school Ford truck that’s the ultimate shuttle rig. And that’s what we did. Spent the rest of the day shuttling riders for laps.
Once again some people got to ride bikes they’d been dreaming about. The Nomad proved itself to be the ultimate “do everything” bike. A lot of riders said that it was cool that even though it was their first ride on a Santa Cruz it felt like they’d been riding the bike for years. They are like that, very intuitive, feels natural right away.
Kirt and his crew did an awesome job. They’re super knowledgeable, answering all kinds of technical questions, giving tips on how the bikes ride and helping people with suspension set up. It would have been cool to ride with them but they’d been on the road for a long time and were definitely suffering from travel burn out. Rex did do one shuttle but that was it for those guys. They left for Whistler to go to Crankworx right after we finished so they were saving themselves.
At the end of the day we asked Kirt how he thought it all went he said we rated a 10 out of 10, maybe the best on the Tour. We were stoked! At Calgary Cycle
pride ourselves on our ability to offer the best we can and from Kirt’s reaction that’s exactly what we did.
Thanks to all the riders who came out and made the day a success. And a huge thanks to Santa Cruz, Kirt, Travis and Rex. We’re already looking forward to next season.
