by Tyler Maine
Geax is proud to announce its partnership with Cameron Zink, distinguished slopestyle and gravity athlete who will ride Geax tires and represent the brand in these disciplines for the 2009 season. Cam is the first US gravity pro ever sponsored by Geax.

“Cam will play a vital role in the exposure of our brand and products, and will be an essential part of the further development of our gravity and extreme use tires” said Ryan DeLong, North American Marketing Manager for the Vittoria Group. “It’s a relationship we’re very excited about.”Cam has been in the spotlight since his 2006 win at Crankworx in Whistler, BC. He’s maintained his celebrity status through numerous wins and consistent top finishes in many events that followed.

As for Cam’s take on the relationship “When changing tire companies after so many years with something more familiar, different products can present new challenges, but Geax has some incredible new tires that will make the transition very easy for me. The new line of Geax tires give me an excellent range to cover all of my needs as a pro rider, with some progressive compounds, tread designs, and sidewalls. This is a tire change I’m looking forward to!”

Cam will use a broad range of Geax tires, including the new Neuron triple compound, DHEA, Booze Light, Tattoo Light, and Saguaro. Cam’s competition tires will utilize Geax’s proprietary TNT (Tube/No Tube) technology.

Thats because maxxis are the undisputed champions of the world! But good on you guys for trying your luck in the rubber department.

"maxxis are the undisputed champions of the world"??? In YOUR opinion maybe... Geax have made quality tires for years now. Just because YOUR favourite riders don't use Geax then that doesn't make the brand any less prevelant in the market. Don't be so close minded.

beavola, check the results of the World Cup DH Mens final placings, nine out of ten were on Maxxis, and the one that wasn't running Maxxis (Fabian Barel) was towards the bottom.

Also, you'll have to go back a few years before you find a Men's DH World Champion that didn't win on Maxxis.

I think huckoveraduck's "undisputed champions of the world" is pretty accurate.

^^ And the above is not an opinions, but a fact.

CORRECTION: ...check the results of the TOP 10 OF THE World Cup DH Mens final placings, nine out of ten were on Maxxis...

maxxis has the backing of the auto industry, geax is bicycle exclusive. who do you think has more money to throw at pros? i'm all for the little guy throwing 'bows among the big players. if the products are at the level, they've got every right to...especially since they're a true manufacturer. good to see someone like cam working with a unique brand. it's a breath of fresh air imo.

 haha idd! go geax

 well said, bestinshow.

iamamodel - all that your "facts" prove is that riders who came in the top 10 were worthy of coming in the top 10 - IRRESPECTIVE of their tire choice. Brian Lopes once won a street race on a beat up Huffy. Do you think that if that bike didn't have Maxxis tires that he wouldn't have won? Pros don't neccessarily CHOOSE their tires per-se, they run what their team has sponsorship deals with. More pro-teams chose Maxxis - that's all you "prove".

I have ridden a bucket load of tires over the years, maxxis, michelon, Intense, kenda, bontrager to name a few, I havent had the chance to use and Geax tire as of yet, but my fave to this point are maxxis minions. more traction then velcro. good for Cam to get a sweet sponsership, hope to see a healthy Mr Zink out kicking some ace

 i got my lobomasloco's
  • 4 1
You do also realise that some "pros" run Maxxis tyres, even though they are sponsored by other brands. Its not exactly a well kept secret either...

WHO CARES THIS ISINT FOR MAXXIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

beavola, I'll quote from a well-known World Cup DHer that is not sponsored by Maxxis: "You can't get on the podium unless you run Maxxis." As Themaninthenorth correctly states, some Pros ran Maxxis when they were sponsored by others, most famously Rennie and Peat. They both race for a living, they don't care about opinions.

Lopes race was about speed and fitness, not grip in the dirt.

I have a set of 2.5 ST Minions and a set of 2.5 Lobo mas Locos. I choose the Minions, though the Geax was the 2nd best tire I've ever ridden, and I've ridden a LOT.

I know this thread is not about Maxxis, it is a rebuttal against beavola. huckoveraduck's statement is not an opinion, its a real-world, race-result proven fact.

yea i agree i had a minion and when it was new it was the best tire for dh ive ever tried, and my lobomaslocos are the 2nd best. but my point is why do people state all these facts about maxxis on a geax add, geax wasnt staing they had better tires then maxxis.

beavola - maxxis are great. Stop hating on me because you don't run them. Close minded? Why be open minded when maxxis make the best tyres? Theres no need to look elsewhere.
  • 2 1
lol we agree maxxis are amazing probably the best, but you are just so wrong about other tires, why is there more then one brake company, seams like evryone runs avids why does hayes exists,i realy like my boxxer wc too,why is there manitous dorados and travis, fox 40,marzocchi. why is there kona or norco or rockymountain when there is specialized. why is there gm when theres ford. you see, your completely wrong. theres hellllla need to look elsewhere, despite maxxis amazing reputation. geax makes white walls. there great tires and they look original and sick. tons of people use geax so just shut up

so sharpied out maxxis tires doesnt count as "choosing" what tire to use?
  • 2 0
I don't understand all the negativity about Zink going over to Geax! So, they're not the most well-known tire manufacturer (yet), but the product is second-to-none.
I've used Kenda, Maxxis, Hutchinson, Continental, Michelin, Panaracer, IRC and Nokian in the past. Geax are next on my list and hopefully the last tire I'll need.

We tested a set of the xc/am Barro's tires from Geax awhile back. They were great tires for some fast xc riding! Geax has some big bike tires also that look very interesting.
  • 3 0
yeah, they are definitely not a new brand, just a bit underexposed. this should help them with that, assuming zink stays healthy.
  • 1 0
Actually beavola, pros do run maxxis because they think they are the best. Check this out. www.littermag.com/2009/exclusive-2009-santa-cruz-syndicate-v10-downhill-bike-prototypes

The logo is blacked out by the team because they paid for the tires not Maxxis. And yes those are the tires on the World Champion's bike.

until now, maxxis is the only company that has mfg'd a triple compound tire, which is the very reason most pro's "choose" them. now that geax has one, that's actually true-to-size based on the etrto (european tire and rim technical organization), i bet we'll see more people switching. at least those that can think outside their undersized box...

I have used the Saguaro and find them pretty good..they climb well and roll well. On braking they don't skid and have decent cornering capabilities. They were stock on my bike. And unlike other brands they hold air tubeless without Stan's.

I think people are confusing correlation with causality. Yes, there is a correlation that a lot of the best racers use Maxxis tires, but that doesn’t mean it's the tires that make them champions. How about you find a connection with the most profitable tire company and how they have the most money to sponsor the most riders.
  • 1 0
Funny how some of the top riders choose Maxxis over the tyres they are sponsored to ride, don't you think?

If some of you are looking for some white-walled tires to pimp out your bike, look no further than Geax White Collection. They are designed specifically for freeriders. I had a set on my bike and I got nothing but stares and comments and they performed as nicely as they looked. I ran them tubelss on a UST rim and with tubes, no worries. I bet Cam will be running the White Collection and he will stand out from the others for sure.

I have always run Maxxis. Every time I try a new tire, it ends up being a $50 mistake. I tried specialized chunder's that came on my demo 7. Garbage. Lots of rolling resistance. Then I tried Intense Tires. Their 2.5's are more like 2.7's. They were too big for my style, and wore out quickly. Also, they were ridiculously hard to get on and off my rims. I'm all about trying new products, but how much better than a minion can a tire really be? Chances are, most other tires will not perform as well. You can't mess with perfection. White walls sound cool, but wouldn't they just be dirty brown walls after a few rides?
  • 0 0
I've actually been running a set of Saguaro white walls on my dj bike for a while now and in Oklahoma, the red dirt stains just about everything. However, all you have to do is get a little soapy water, Windex, Simple Green, whatever and they're fine.

So no, they don't turn into "dirty brown walls after a few rides." Sure it's a little more maintenance than a typical black side wall, but how many times have you seen someone riding white walls on their bike?

"I bet you voted for Bush in '04 just in case Carey didn't perform as well..."

Actually, I voted for Kerry because he was the best candidate. Are you trying to say that Bush performed well in his first term? Your analogy makes no sense man. I will only buy Maxxis because they are the best tires I've tried. I think they are perfect in every way. After experimenting with other tires, and talking to a lot of other riders, I've come to the conclusion that Maxxis makes the best tires. So, while these geeks tires may be "as good" as Maxxis, I'm not willing to gamble on them. I don't think there is any way these tires could be "Better" than Maxxis.

I've got a set of Geax street tyres and mud tyres, there both good! Would consider buying a set of dry tyres as well! Hopefully this'll get Geax playing with the big guns!

I had the geax tires second to the left. And they weren't bad. A bit thin for my liking but they were decent. Lol, I think geax sounds like sucha sticky brand but, if i were him, i would have gotten something a bit more recognized like Kenda, Intense, Maxxis etc.. But i think that he will give a lot of recognition to this company. Personally, I don't think GEAX is going to last... but that's just my opinion

its funny coz all riders are sponsored by Maxxis and ride minions.

What would be most intresting? Cam. Zink gets a new tire sponsor or new bike sponsor?

U choose. xD!

I have to say as far as tires go I'm really impressed with what I've gotten out of Geax. Two sets so far and they've yet to disappoint.

vee racing stouts dont cost more then $13 a tire and they are way better then all other tires in my opinion
