Oct 26, 2018
by Pinkbike Staff

bigquotesLast night, the last trick to check off before finals today- Feel like I went through hell to even get to this point... but my shoulder gave out on landing and is completely [thumbs down emoji] today. Good luck to all my brothers on the hill today! Surgery is scheduled and I'll be back next year!

Sad news for Zink fans - we all wish him a speedy recovery and a return to form next year!

While true, even showing up w/ a suspect shoulder at Rampage isn’t smeeeert. It’s not an event. It’s RAMPAGE.

The smartest man never pulls out.

@MatthewYoung4: just wait till you have your first child. After that pulling out is always the best option

@michaelfet: If you "pull out" early there will be no children.....ya know? Like when you're....oh never mind....

Pulling out is also a good option if you don't want a first child.

@michaelfet: sorry, meant to upvote. PB, make a way to correct our votes, damn buttons are too close

@igxqrrl: well I’m not sure about US education but here in EU we do not recommend pulling out as a valid contraception method

My pullout game is a straight 100. After two kids and six years. Personally I think it's safer than condoms because like, you don't actually shoot inside. Condoms break sometimes, plus the blow-by problem always gives me the willies.

Honestly I'm glad it happened on a landing with minimal consequences instead of somewhere that could lead to a more severe injury

I had a super bad feeling about Zink this Rampage, glad this happened before he tried to spin a 40 foot drop. Wishing the man a successful surgery and speedy recovery!

 You’re STILL THE MAN Z.
Best to you.

May as well just throw this here before anyone else... Casey browntown

I'm actually glad to hear this given the situation. Last thing I wanted to see today was Zink's shoulder coming out on a huge flat drop flip.

Really glad he made the call. If you're not 100% and the shoulder could pop out unexpectedly, you're not ready for something like this. Heal up properly and show us what you've got when you're back.

Now that he's quit so shortly before the event, is there actually a rider on the reserve list who'll take his spot?

this is a good thing dude was taking way to big of a risk even riding that with a shoulder that could pop out at any minute, he should be glad it went out there verse a spot where it would have been disastrous!! we know he is a great rider, nothing to prove at this point.

Its insane how good Cam still is after all these years, and that he still pushes the limits as much as he does. Doing fast plant 3's off cliffs and cash rolls on a DH bike--off a rampage jump no less. Cant wait to see what he dreams up when he gets better

Damn Zink, get well and rested, and look after that beautiful family of yours! Best wishes!

just pleased at least this isn't too serious, I worry for these guy's and that Cam has the sense to be wise and pull out before anything worse could happen, heal up strong mr man

Bummer to not see Cam ride but glad he's not risking his riding career today. I wanna see him recover and shred it next year!!!!

I mentioned his shoulder injury in another comment I made. I'm glad he chose to sit this one out. It's just not worth it. Let your body fully recover before doing extreme hits again.

Sooo, if Cam Zink is out, will there be anyone that replace him? I mean what about Reece Wallace ?

Too late in the game unless someone were to ride his line!
  • 1 0
totally, only thing I cold think would stop a substitution would be it being so late before the comp

@raddog: If I remember correctly, last year RB Rampage 2017 Conor MacFarlane crashed during practice and Ryan Howard replace his place. Am I right ?

@tulipanek: Macfarlane went nuts and finished his runs even though he crashed again after crashing hard the day before. Guy is an animal how can you forget this soldier. He also won the mcgazza award

Ronnie Mac would NEVER pull out...

Bummer Zink! You are the heart and soul of this event and the other riders will feed off your "gentle" high five!

I was more nervous about his shoulder than adolfs double flip. This dude has a family to provide for.

Sad news, but foreseeable... Get yout hardware fixed, Cam. See you next year!

yeah i knew it was over when he posted his shoulder popping out on some small (relative) feature on king kong a couple days prior.

Such a good decision, I was genuinely worried about him. Heal up Zink!

Disappointing for sure, but better a healthy Zink for next year! Good luck to everybody and heal up soon Cam!

Would love to see what he had planned but no trick or event is worth a career or future health. Best of luck healing Cam.
