Chris Kovarik dominates the field on Phat Wednesday, the campers clean Goats Gully, and the coaches get to test out a new feature in the Airdome! The Airdome has a new feature! At the Phat Wednesday race, I heard a rumor about a new stunt at the Airdome that might need some testing. We headed up to the Airdome after a full day of riding the park and got to watch Chris and Dan slave away as they were finishing the drop. That night was a Camp of Champions private session in the Airdome and a possible first hit of the new drop. WE looked over the whole drop and talked with Chris and Dan about what we thought of it while the last few modifications were made to it.
Gareth testing the drop
After about a half hour, they agreed that it was not completed, but time for a test run. I hopped onto the platform and took a few run ups to check it out. Once everyone was ready, it was a few pedal strokes and spin! Myself, Alan Hepburn, and Gareth Dyer each 3’ed it the first time. Neil Meier bar spun the drop which was sick. After the first runs and some modifications to the drop, it started to go off! Alan was tail whipping it, Dave was locking his brakes and front flipping off it, and Gareth, Alan and I had other thoughts. We put the little lip at the end of the ramp and decided to flip it. Gareth was the first to try, and almost made the full rotation! That got me excited to try it, but I got scared and ditched my bike. I ran back up to the top to try again, and this time successfully landed on my head (I love foam pits!). The next flip was perfect! It is a really weird feeling to get upside down and fall at the same time. I think I’ll have to practice a bit before I can take it to the dirt.
The new drop feature is sick, and works very well. Once the railing is up, and new posts are inserted it will be open to the public, which should be the middle of next week.
In other news, Chris Kovarik killed it at the Phat Wednesday race! He won the men’s class by 12 seconds!
His fiancé, Clair Buchar did the same thing to the women’s class. Those two are going to have some mutant fast offspring once they tie the knot! Our very own Xavi decided to race as well. He ended up winning the junior class and placing 22nd overall! Nice job Cho-Cho! At only 17, Cho-Cho definitely kills it!

The campers also got to kill it today! They pinned Goats Gully and In Deep like seasoned pros. These kids have gotten a lot better, and will only continue to progress their riding. Over the course of a week it is crazy to watch how much their riding improves in all aspects. The campers are learning how to ride harder trails while going faster and how to to more tricks over bigger jumps. I've said it before, but I wish I could be present when they get to the top of their local trails and have a whole new outlook on what is difficult.

That’s all for today, Now it is time to go ride more mountains and let the kids enjoy their last few days here!
