This is not your average mountain biker crash pad. Located in beautiful Bend, Oregon, a stone’s throw away from 100-plus miles of sweet, sweet singletrack, is the place that Giant Factory Off-Road Team rider Carl Decker (and a few of his friends) call home. In this video, Carl invites us inside The Octagon and demonstrates the proper way to live the dream. And, most importantly, he also shows us his bikes.
You can follow Carl and the rest of the Giant Factory Off-Road Team here.
You know, Carl Decker. He's the guy who's MTB crib video you clicked on your most favorite website of all time. Oh yeah, and he's also considerably better than you at your favorite thing to do.
I will say though, after watching that, it is clear Decker didn't get all of his money from riding bikes...
Carl Decker, 4x Downeille Champ, Single Speed World Champ & on & on. Adam Craig, Kelli Emmet, Kurt Vories, Lars Sternberg, all these guys hang out together. Carl Decker was racing enduro when it was called Super D. He bought his place cheap, when the market was down.
Y'all are displaying ignorance. Carl Decker is a monster on the bike, super skinny, super fast. Won the Downievile Classic XC race this year, That's a very gnarly race. He just flew by me on the roughest part of the descent on his practice run the day before, like I was standing still (and I wasn't).
Elitist indignant hipster. Nice. Try, educated guy who respects bicycle talents of all kinds and doesn't feel the need to insult an athlete that has had a very successful career. Inbred shit hook
"doesnt feel the need to insult an athlete that has had a very successful career" - except for insulting the entire sport of downhill mountain biking. Why do downhillers and cross country riders have to be so divided? You sound as petty as the dickhead snowboarders who hate the dickhead skiiers and vice versa. Have you ever even tried racing downhill? I used to race triathlon and still race ultramarathons, and I still find downhill racing to be insanely physically demanding; fitness is crucial for DH racing. point is, stop being a twat waffle and show some respect to all branches of cycling.
I love downhill, I love enduro, I love XC. I love cyclocross. I love road. I love it all. I race anything and everything. I do respect it all, and I don't have a problem with you. It's dickheads like the guy on top saying Bryceland is going faster that are dividing the sport. He insults Carl Decker for no reason, and the truth is that Carl Decker is probably faster in every discipline of cycling--and even car racing--than Bryceland is, except for downhill. Enduro would probably be a toss up depending on the course. But this deepo1 fuck sees a guy showing how proud he is of his career and home, and feels a need to reference the King of the Bros. I come from a moto background, not a lycra one. Over time, I came to love and respect all forms of cycling.
I'm with visser62. How can you call HIM elitist when clearly the OP is having a crack at a hugely successful rider who has the gall of not being as fast at downhill as a top 5 World Cup rider. Like Carl doesn't deserve to have a nice house and cool toys because he's been successful in almost every type of riding except downhill? That seems pretty elitist and douchey to me! Let your neg props fly!
Ratboy wouldn't stand a chance against Decker at Downieville. He'd lose 15 minutes on the climb and only gain back 5 on the 17-mile descent. Decker rides the Downieville Downhill course on an XC bike and kills it (this year he crashed/flatted on the downhill so was out of the running for the all-mountain champion competition, but he won the 27-mile point-to-point XC race, coming in way ahead of a lot of very, very fast guys.)
haha chill out guys, I was just messing around. I know this guy is probably really fast (way more than me that's for sure) or he wouldn't own a house like that in the first place. I just thought it was kind of fun to see that another world class athlete like ratboy was living in something really different.
Stuff is way cheaper here, hence so many people moving here. My buddy lives in a 2,000sqft 3 bedroom and it is $800 a month total all utilities included.
I live near Hood River - own 20 acres and know a bit about the area's real estate. A 7000 sq ft house like that on 40 acres near Bend would be ~ $800,000 USD.
I don't think he bought that house from racing money unless he won several gold medals in the Olympics
Bullshit on saying bend is cheap. You cant find a 2 bedroom house to rent for under a grand. Everyone wants to move here so rent is going up. Bend is getting crazy popular.
Sorry for the ignorant haters. The Decker-ator is a PNW legend. Seriously a true bike individual. He took small bike money, did not blow it and invested it incredibly wisely at a huge risk to his future. You all may be too young to know but he has done so many things in so many disciplines and always to his own special beat. Some people who do reach some success actually do not get it just handed to them as some of the less accomplished in life like to believe.
Then they shouldnt relate his fortunes to being a mountainniker. This guy seems like a douche to me. Simply showing off with that gay mustache and shit eating grin. Im an oregonian too
This off season, Eddie decided that accomodation in Queenstown is too expensive, so he rented out a garage with some friends and made separate rooms with some wood and cardboard.
No joke, it's on his instagram.
Never heard of Carl Decker? Obviously, you're not a golfer. My share of The Octagon rent is 700/month plus firewood. Some of you aren't familiar with the term "tongue and cheek". Look it up, kids.
All the hate on Decker is pretty funny. Not my style since he is an XC guy, but you don't win Dville 4x without some serious skills. BTW Decker might have earned all that money back in the day. Even if he is parent funded, who cares? I don't see anyone calling out Mark Weir and I guarantee that he did not pay for his house with bike money. Good for these guys chasing their dreams instead of the corporate life.
A lot of young readers probably will say 'who'. But these guys made their money when there was real money to me made racing bikes. I recall Roland green driving a 911 and had a couple houses in Victoria way back. XC has its hay day with huge salaries.
Judging by all the stickers I'd say Emily's Porsches have all been on loan. Brand ambassadors are quite common.
Also, I'd say she's more athlete than model because she has had some very good results at the pointy end of women's XC, which is very competitive.
Hey, 2015 bikes were so last year - I already have my 2016 Anthem Advanced. C'mon Carl, get with the times!
But seriously, I like that he didn't take this too seriously. And I think I am going to have to eat more eggs to get faster!
What an impressively conceited cunt... to show off what he didn't earn, as if he did.
He's a lucky son of a bitch no doubt, but he fails to enjoy such privilege modestly.
It's a damn shame for my sake that jealousy works the opposite way I want it to.
Tack-eeeee. 40 something guy hanging with roomates and 20 something dudes. Something wrong with that. He can impress 20 somethings with that house from Magnum P.I., but that is about it. Nice property, I'll give him that, but nothing special to have acreage outside of Bend. Amazing whips....I would love to trade in my new BMWs for some cars from the 70's and 80's. Ugh.

Would rather have a smaller house and live by myself lol
Cribs doesn't do episodes on people who live with their parents lol
Awww yeaaah!
