Châtel Razorsnowbike 2018 - Video

Mar 4, 2018
by ShapeRideShoot

From the Utah desert to the icy slopes of Châtel, Vinny-T has shown incredible skills on his bike. As a local of the event and a lover of biking in the snow it was a normal evolution to see Vinny-T getting involved in the development of the Razorsnowbike.

The main event is a mass start DH race with a finish line in the village.

Then in the afternoon, there's an 8 cross race along with plenty of fun activities in the snow park.

For more information, check out the event page on Châtel's website.

What tires are they running? Don't think I saw any spike mods. I've been fine without spikes on trail rides but am curious about what to run on a groomer on a ski slop. Just curious.... I would never poach the slopes after hours ........ (shifty eyes)......

I`m not sure if spikes are permitted in a race light this...

@enduroelite: rules are not spikes, screws or fat tyres. They start super early in the morning so the snow is still hard.

@TopperharleyPT1: Well then that's going to be super fun and slick! Have you had any experiences with spikes though? Do they really make a big difference? I really don't want to invest the $$$ in the experiment

@charles0210: Very worth it, #6 screws in every knob and xc tires pumped up to 60psi

@sweet-bike: Thanks! what length did you go for? Did you add anything on the inside of the tire like Stans, duct tape, etc.?

@charles0210: just set it up tubeless, just screws and sealant.

 @enduroelite: Awesome, thanks!

@charles0210: oh, and #6 screws are too big and will add too much weight. I've used #4 x1/2 or 3/8 depending on the knobs. 80g per 100 screws. yes I've done this once or twice, at least!

The sounds of the brake squealing would drive you nuts.

With declining snowpacks etc bikes could save mountain resorts year round. I wish they just let them own the lift for all seasons. Especially here in SoCal.

I could see half the resort for mtb and half for skiing like at snow summit or bear mtn. even snow valley has some good trails nearby and accessible from the top of the lift.

That's because there's no advantage to a fat bike on hardpack groomers. Fat bikes let you ride a variety of snow conditions that regular tires wash out on. Fat bikes aren't fast, nor are they slow, they are simply capable of riding in marginal winter conditions and staying on the bike during the off season. Not to mention they are a lot of fun and make you feel like a kid again.

They're just going downhill with their bikes...... Why would you need fatbikes? Let me see them going up hill with those 2.3''! Big Grin
