Editor Notes-
Mini downhill racing – What is it?
The races take place over short courses of around 30 to 60 seconds long. The course’s are not the longest or hardest course but to race it absolutely flat out will be an intense riding experience. This is the world’s only downhill race with 3 timed runs, the winner will be the rider with fastest total time.
Live Timing
The latest Tag Huer timing equipment shows each individual riders time down to 1/100 of a second at the finish. This makes the racing really intense where every single second counts. No need for uplifts just a quick walk back to the start and that keeps the entry costs low. This is exciting to watch and when the spectators’ start lining the track and shouting for their rider it is a fantastic atmosphere.
Location – Chicksands Bike Park, Bedfordshire
Rowney Warren is situated next to the A600 just north of Shefford, in Bedfordshire.
Rowney Warren is primarily managed by the Forestry Commission. The landowners of the Rowney Warren are Southill Estates who also retain executive management control over some areas of the woodland such as where the Dual Slalom course is situated. Off-road cyclists have used Rowney Warren for many years, but it was as the introduction of mountain bikes in the mid-to-late 1990’s that resulted in significantly increased use of the area. As a result of this the Forestry Commission and Southill Estates approached the founders of what was to become Beds Fat Trax in order to bring some form of control and organisation to what was going on. Following on from this Beds Fat Trax was formed on 15 September 1999. Since then the club has developed a variety of cycling facilities including:
Dual Slalom Course, 4X, Dirt Jumps, Freeride Area, Northshore and Way-marked Cross-Country trails.
