To me it sounds like he just tried to make it all up in the studio afterwards, I'm guessing due to the sound not recording properly during the run. It just didn't sound quite like the normal squeals we hear
Crazy looking track, crazy trying to ride with Gwin with no chain on top of that. Being a huge fan of Gwin can I please recomend that he not try to impress us by riding chainless on a blown out slop track before the race. We already know he rides faster than anyone in the world regardless of having a chain or tire etc.
A questionable attempt to record commentary after the fact (perhaps due to a technical malfunction), but you can tell it's just not Claudio in the actual moment.
Love you Claudio, but only when it's legit. This was kinda corny.
It's also Red Bull Media House and their technical skills are pretty lame. Just watch the Stevie Smith tribute run from Ft. William. The audio dudes didn't have the smarts to mix the audio down or to add something to cover whoever is yapping underneath it.
@rrsport: definitly is. you can hear at the end the real audio from the camera and its completely different. imagine claudio being excited dubbing in the studio lol...
UCI introduces this new element of DH track exclusively for Schaldming World Cup and they call it "Die linie des plötzlichen Todes", or "The line of sudden death" if you like, since it buries your chances for the overall. The president of UCI anti MTB division had this to say: Mohahaha!
Weather will be absolutely miserable... Saturday will be rain showers and over the night to sunday heavy rain. On Sunday rain all day with gusts of wind up to 70 km/h and just 6°C
Who ever decided on the taping for that course should be slapped in the face. This is a downhill course ridden at high speed, not a TSA waiting line at an airport.
People complained about taping being an issue last years and they made it even narrower in response. How stupid they are? I hope they'll change that for the racing day as they will be lot of DQ and that will ruin the whole race.
I also don't get it really, maybe it is just to be able to film it with fewer cameras or for the spectators to see a larger portion of the track. Personally I always feel tree stumps are more scary than the tree. It is more painful to crash on top of the stump than against the tree if it were still there. And, which may not be such be such a huge problem right now but which will be a few years from now, the trees keep erosion at bay and take care of moisture control. So yeah, it may be good for our viewing pleasure but I don't see it as something good for the area. That is, unless the trees were just sick and had to be removed regardless. Then it is nice that they now have this wood of fame, kind of like they have on the Alpe d'Huez climb (for the Tour de France road cycling race).
Aaron is so relaxed since he rides for YT. Never saw him making Manuals for fun as he rodes for Specialized. YT´s slogan "Good Times" hits it on point.
He had no chain. So he's gonna be rolling some bits of the track unable to pedal. May as well throw a few manuals in. Don't really think its got anything to do with what team he's on...
this DH track makes me wanna cry. Honestly i dont even know what to say, the one section with the butchered trees look's like a warzone, their seems to be lots of weird awkward setions through grass and mud. And theirs huge portion's of the track that beginners could honestly ride down. ( jump trail anyone ). Its and insult. I mean this place is in the f*cking Alps. PLEASE someone take over dh and show people what dh is. This is depressing.
I honestly don't get the Leogang bashing. No one complains about Fort William and it's BMX track start, an uphill section, and the motorway at the end. It's got a fair bit of everything and the fact i can be on without a chain says a lot in my opinion. Sure it's not the best track in Austria, but Schladming is getting more bike park-y each year and has little to no tech in it exept for 50m in the lower woods.
@crisotop: I have mixed feelings about this track. On the one hand your points about Fort Bill are fair. On the other I feel like agreeing with @jo1212man in that this is certainly not what the Alps have to throw at the most skilled downhillers in the world. But anyway last year was fun to watch and this year the conditions should make for a brutal survival fight, so here comes entertainment!
I'm prolly going to get neg-propped because everyone's memory is short, but seeing all those tree stumps makes me think of a dude named Cedric Gracia. I'm sure he doesn't like seeing them.
@Christopop: Cedric was nearly killed a couple of years back after a brake failure caused him to fly off course where he slammed into a tree stump and shattered his hip.
@kleinblake: Agreed. It's just that I prefer natural tracks over man-made ones. But yes, given the weather condition, I think it's going to be one hell of a race.
i miss the old 2012 track! at least this year's course seems to be better than last years. I still don't understand why they're not moving to Schladming!
So looking forward on gwin winning without a fork, the frame cut to 30° so a stone can fit in as a front wheel, making the front end so much more stiff, ultimately achieving the setup he always wanted, nothing of that soft air spring bs that's only holding him back.
Anyone ever feel like on one of these previews, there's going to be a couple of hospital employees waiting for Claudio at the finish with a straight jacket?
How is it, that Red Bull can operate a Formula 1 team. But they can't provide a simple video player ?? Living in Canada with slower than dial up speeds, all I see are tiny blocks and glitchy sound bites that start and stop ... Takes about an hour to watch the course preview.
The nervous laughter is because he's in a cupboard re-recording the audio whilst trying to pretend he's actually riding the course, he's all at sea, has no idea what to say, someone's told him it's a good idea but it's just a fucking embarrassment.
Ever since someone mentioned last week that Claudio sounds like a Muppet, it's been messing with my mind. Instead of enjoying the preview, I'm thinking, "Is it Fozzie? Is it Gonzo?". Not sure if it hurts or improves the experience. ;-)
That is one fugly looking track. Come on UCI... a lot of these "World Cup" tracks are not world cup caliber. You are doing downhill a disservice. Give us some gorgeous tracks that are super technical but fast and flowy. Tracks that wow us.
I don't think you guys realize how gnarly some of those sections are. The Leogang race track used to be a full on highway, but now there's just the part in the middle and the end that's bike-parky. The rest is all rocky and rooty steepness and off-camberness
Looks gnarly enough to me! That section after the corner where Gwin said he lost his tire was a nasty off camber. Guess some of these keyboard shredders know more... Ha ha!
@fabdemaere: First year it was a beast, after that they tamed it way down and now its getting better at least. Its a shame though, if they would just use the other side of the hill it could be a legendary track. The track now is a traversing mess.
I think you should see one of these tracks in person before you say this isn't World Cup caliber. The riders all like it and say it's gnarly so I don't see much of a problem. It's obviously steep as shit, with all the tech roots and mud I'm betting this will be one of the hardest of the year
You got some strange talent spotting Peaty's ass in all the videos, cheers!
I'm sure he hears that a lot...
Love you Claudio, but only when it's legit. This was kinda corny.

"taking a french line"
Claudio almost crashing into the girl hilarious~
That'll be embarrassing forever.
Can't wait to see, i'll be surprised if Red Bull allow it
Idk man, sounds like it's the same.
Naked asses at 3:51?
P"
I don't think he shut up for one split-second
Liked the French line though
Gagagagagaga ????
Not sure for Claudio ahaha
