The North American Handmade Bicycle Show offers the rare opportunity to see and touch the handiwork of the world's best custom bike makers. Just in case you didn't make it to the Sacramento convention center to see it for yourself, we shot some close-up images of the more outstanding art and technology on display.

What strikes me about this selection of photos is, as I scroll through each one, I'm thinking - ooh that's nice, I want that, I'd love to own that, I wish I could have that, I'd love to own that, I could see myself owning that for 20+ years, what a cool idea, that looks like someone with real skill made that, its beautiful...

Whereas compared to a standard bike show, I'm more like - meh, generic, boring, next, they've changed the colour big deal, they've made it a 29er big deal, they've added 10mm travel big deal, what shall I have for lunch, I need to call my brother back, I wonder if the traffic will be bad...

with you on this. I would appreciate more coverage and maybe some articles on how these guys started out. What it takes to build a frame, weld a frame etc. I could geek out for days on this stuff!

@ceecee: that was a great interview actually. there's not enough weirdness in cycling these days.
  • + 3
 HAHA well said.
  • + 49
some of that stuff is pure art! Very cool

PB, you've gotta show us the full bikes, I'm trying to imagine these pics as part of full bikes and keep merging them into some strange frankenbikes
  • + 6
Sounds like you're picturing the pubes mobile!
  • + 2
They just posted a whole bunch of the winning bikes. They are mind blowing!
  • + 10
@mattg95 It's probably overkill, but I plan on one more post of my personal faves from the show. Many of them will be full views of these bikes.
@yarbianthebarbarian One of the Pubes bikes was featured in the first post.

@RichardCunningham: the red fork that you have marked as a black cat, is actually a Hunter Cycles bike.

Thanks for the great article Richard Cunningham. Even though I have zero interest in gravel bikes I completely appreciate all the work and skill that has went into these marvelous machines. When I get too old to Enduro and still have no interest in e-bikes these will be my next Hobby.

Utterly awesome stuff. Thanks for showing some more detailed pics PB!

I like big Lugs and I cannot lie...
  • + 7
Love the black sheep headtube badge

"...titanium belt-drive tandem with Pinion gearbox" is possibly the most bike-hipster phrase you could have possibly written. Beautiful workmanship is inspiring, though.
  • + 2
That Black Sheep ti fork! I was fortunate enough to demo a Boo bike at bootleg sporting their truss fork and super wide dual purpose ti bar. True analog suspension! The fatty felt as good or better than any 4" fork I've tried.
This version looks more robust and shreddable.

Could that Paul Components brake caliper also be actuated with a bicycle (drivetrain) chain? The pulley wheel made me curious.
  • + 1
The “pulley wheel” is for adjusting pad contact.
But damn I would want to know how that could possibly work with a chain on there lol

Humans are amazing. Makes me feel like a gorilla.

Why would McGovern Cycles titanium forks be post mount? Surely if you're going to the trouble of making something beautiful, flat makes more sense. Am I missing something?
  • + 1
With Metal, Flat mount doesn't really make that sense. You have to take a huge chunk out of the fork right by the Dropout where you need it to be strong.
Makes sense on Moulded Carbon bikes but not with Metal! (Its possible, just not really the most practical idea)

in most cases I wonder “why?”
  • + 3
The bikes at that art show were incredible!
  • + 3
Love these close up pictures, really get a feel for the workmanship.
  • + 3
Titanium bike with 6 pounds of flake paint on it? Dahell.
  • + 2
That red Black Cat fork looks like it's actually a Hunter.
  • + 1
good, i wasn't the only one who noticed.
  • + 2
that titanium lower is some thing else...
  • + 1
the welded Ti rocker arm is sweet. one thing killing my OCD is the partially cut zip tie.....

 I miss Renovo's wood sculptures.

Glorious! Each and every one. More pix of completes.
  • + 1
Lugs are beautiful. That Dekerf. Stunning.
  • + 2
 More geto glitter paint!

This is pretty disappointing coverage; builder's names were spelled wrong, materials were wrong and there's no mention of anyone winning any of the categories. C'mon Pinkbike, you can do better than that
  • + 2
 Love that Oddity HT.
