Cody Kelley's Partnership With Alchemy Bikes Comes to An End

Dec 29, 2019
by Sarah Moore

It looks like Cody Kelley is another athlete that will be riding in new colours in the new decade.

bigquotesMy time with @alchemybicycles has come to end... But what a great few years it has been! This little company out of Colorado sent me around the world and kept the dream of riding two wheels alive. We were fortunate enough to stand on a fair amount of podiums together and capped off our partnership with rainbow stripes at the trophy of nations. Thanks for all the support and great times guys! We’ll be seeing you on the trails for some shreds and laughs in the future.Cody Kelley

Cody Kelley flew out to the PNW to join us in filming his second PNW Components video. Our fourth day of filming was spent at the Summit Ridge Bike Park in Black Diamond WA. Photo by Trevor Lyden

We'll update you as soon as we find who his new ride is.

 @chillrider199:
Saw people ordering them direct from Gee’s instagram account a few weeks back. It was literally like:

Commenter: “Hey, when’s the trail bike for sale?!”

Gee: “pm me and I’ll sort you out.”

Saw a bunch of people get replied to just via that Instagram post.

So weird... not sure wtf they’re doing.

 @islandforlife: grow up. They're developing a brand and in prototype testing. The person enquiring would be going on an email list and would receive notification when a bike is available for purchase. Learn how the world works, he's not selling them from his garden shed.

 @islandforlife: We were contacted via DM for email details and then we were sent PDF of the first 50 bikes going into production with 2 build options and pricing etc for their trail/enduro bike and their downhill bike. I have seen a few locals on them so they are being sold.

Haha, wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of their a*shole. Just telling what I saw dude. I’m sure many people are also buying through an email list, but a bunch were getting orders in through insta via the method I described. Take care!

 @rivercitycycles:

looks like it but not sure how! Remember they relaunched a few years back and signed Lopes? he switched over to Ibis shortly after.

Sometimes you just have to let the past die. Kylo Ren taught me that. Also the newest installment is a flustercuck of a movie.

 @islandforlife: sorry, I meant to say that if you had a brain and an ability to think through a process, then perhaps you could imagine a concept where a product is prototyped and then released for sale when ready. But saying silly things like "wtf" in lower case says it all really. Knob.

 @spankthewan: name something good about them? Just a fairly useless option really.
  • 11 0
 I don't hate Alchemy or anything. They're good looking bikes. That being said, I would assume that Cody is getting a better contract and support with a more established brand. People can deride his race performance all they want (and it wasn't actually bad this year), but he's a serious influencer which, as someone posted elsewhere, may be worth more than race results in marketing terms.
  • 1 0
 @spankthewan: well they could at least start by filling the orders to the LBS that opted to carry their bikes.... Which they did not after being months late on the release of the the 29er. Then sending just 2 of the same size bikes to the LBS to sit on the shelf and nobody can order a different size to fill their floor space. Much less get a high end LBS to even be able to give their customers a time frame on when they were shipping bikes to them. All the time while these customers are looking at a wall of fancy bikes on front of them. You can start there....... then work your way to nit picking old geo and yeti rip off suspension.

 He confirmed his use of Paul Mitchell at race pace on a stage this year. I don't remember what event but somebody yelled out what he used and he responded. Might have been a BME event?

 Does Alchemy actually sell many bikes? It's a knockoff of an older Yeti design, at a way too high price. My guess is they ended the relationship because they weren't seeing the benefit financially.

flag browner (Dec 29, 2019 at 19:01) (Below Threshold)
 Could be that or they want to sponsor a rider who might get better results, I mean down-tables are only going to get you through so many seasons.
  • 4 4
 It is not a knockoff of an older design. The suspension is similar to the current Switch Infinity, but it uses pivots to achieve a similar path. I don't understand all the hate.
  • 4 0
 It's not a Yeti design suspension platform. Dave Earle designed Switch on the first SB series. Yeti had an exclusive deal to use it for 2 years. Yeti then teamed up with Fox for the Switch Infinity system.
  • 12 1
 @browner: 7th at ews northstar, and winning team at trophy of nations with rude and neer. But yeah, I see your point

 @panzer103: at least their road bikes can fit a water bottle.
  • 1 1
 @whambat: their road bikes are smexy
  • 2 0
 @Artikay13: they are. I used to ride by their factory all the time and would grab coffee at their cafe just to drool over them.
I was just making fun of their mountain bikes not fitting water bottles and all comments on Pinkbike dismissing any bike that don’t fit one. Despite that, I’ve heard plenty of people love Alchemy mountain bikes.

 Would love to see him back on Yeti... Or any cool USA based company which would make him look good. Guy rips 110%. All American kid.-
  • 4 6
 Is it worth nowadays for a company to invest at least 200.000$ in an athlete, who doesn't have good results, but does some cool edits and whips.
With that much money, a company can do a lot of marketing.
  • 4 1
 @chri92:

Someone who has the rad moves and style for miles might be better marketing then someone who runs in the top 3 every race and has an average riding style....
  • 11 0
 @chri92: My god people on these forums think riders are making. That poor kid probably had a salary of around 20-25k and a few bikes.
  • 3 0
 @sweetbike69: It's not just the salary. You need to add all the travel expenses for him and his mechanic, last year even there team manager was traveling with them, salary of the mechanic, shipping expenses, bikes, start fees, team accreditation etc.
