Are Commencal and Canyon in some sort of a battle to see who can have a more stacked roster?
  • 26 2
They cut out the bikes shops by going direct so they are stacked with cash.
  • 17 0
apparently Canyon's team has a height requirement

This is rad. After working for YT for a year and a half and seeing what they're actually like behind the scenes, and what the owner said about Andreu, he's way better off with Commencal.
  • 89 0
 The beans. spill em
  • 21 0
What did the owner say about Andreu?
  • 17 0
 Do you care to elaborate?
  • 8 3
@oldfaith: I’m going to guess it was something along the lines of he wants to get paid but he doesn’t want to do any publicity stuff
  • 10 2
@jaame: If that is the case, dropping him as a rider is completely understandable. Sponsorship isnt a one way road, its just like normal employment.
  • 70 0
Can’t 100% confirm this is true but a friend of a friend does marketing for YT. Allegedly Andrea left after catching Marcus Flossmann sniffing his seat. I haven’t met Flossmann so can’t comment on him but I’ve met Max Commencal and he doesn’t seem like a seat sniffer to me.

@jaame: like almost everyone on Fest Series. Next time you know, they come out saying Redbull is destroying people’s lives and they don’t drink it anyways. Guys like Makken are simply waiting for the rapidly growing weed industry to reach out to them... then let’s wait for the shroom industry to grow and no shit will Ever get done... “have you seen the latest Yeti Finley?”- “yeah”, “you want one?”, “nah, I’m perfectly fine, The new one is just as turquoise as mine” - but the antisquat “I earned to be prosquat man”.
  • 3 2
 @manuelandphillipe: @COMMENCALbicycles can you confirm?
  • 23 2
@jaame: well yt does have a history of dropping high calibre riders rather abruptly and not especially amicably, so no surprise here
  • 6 0
 oh the drama
  • 19 16
That was pure speculation I my part. I totally guessed. I mean l, what could it be? They’ve probably only met a handful of times.
And guess what, newsflash. Mr Flossman built a multimillion dollar company from the ground up. You don’t achieve that by being nice to employees and letting them enjoy “good times” at work. You do it by setting the bar high and driving your workforce to achieve the standard, while also giving them the bare minimum you can legally get away with. Unfortunately that’s just life.
  • 5 5
@jaame: yeah you right about that? Google sure seem like they treat their employees like shit dont they
  • 4 6
He might be ok, who knows? The last I heard, company owners who treat their employees too well don’t stay company owners for long. You’ve heard of the carrot or the stick I presume. It’s never the honey, is it?
  • 5 15
flag WAKIdesigns (Jan 20, 2020 at 14:38) (Below Threshold)
@jaame: depends on a culture and on position in question. Anyways it’s still a carrot on a stick, not a stick in the head or through your ass. There’s a difference between a bike company like YT and Nike. No point in assuming too much. Andreu is one of the best one can have and definitely not someone who wouldn’t be vocal if his boss would push on him. He’s an artist... if he was pushed around, we would know.
  • 4 2
@jaame: isn't that a perfect allegorical statement on our current capitalist society? " You don’t achieve that by being nice to employees and letting them enjoy “good times” at work. You do it by setting the bar high and driving your workforce to achieve the standard, while also giving them the bare minimum you can legally get away with. Unfortunately that’s just life. "

@lavanrider Whats with all the butthurt YT haters ratpacking a company they know nothing about? Should YT apologize for bringing bike prices down industry-wide? Nope. “A year and a half” try 9 years of sponsoring Andreu. Fvccbois. Read his own words.

ell, things went really well the last couple years. I'm happy about how things went with YT. I got a contract with them way back in 2011 and we both had the same vision. I was young and they were a small brand from Germany but things worked out for both, with Rampage win and podiums and an X Games medal. Years later, I feel like things worked out pretty well on both sides. In the past two years, I felt better than ever on my bike - the Fest Series, Rampage, working on some Red Bull projects together with some insane athletes and riding some sick locations was sick.

But in the end, I had been doing the same all over for a few years so I just feel like I need a change, a new program a new bike and a brand who really wants to fully support my vision of freeride and the perfect bike for it. -AL
  • 11 1
@endlessblockades: He was saying that he personally worked for YT for a year and a half. And I'm not sure where you're coming from suggesting bike prices have gone down... Sure the DTC brands were more "affordable" for awhile, but prices have only gone up year after year across the board in the dozen or so years I've been riding. Even with the introduction of direct sales. The average mid tier bike is more than twice the price now than the first one i bought and the idea of common place 5 figure bikes would have been unthhinkable at the time. This outpaces inflation by 200+%
.
  • 5 2
Maybe he’s just no longer considered Young Talent.
  • 1 2
@lavanrider: go work with Commençal then. He never said anything about his riders LOL.
Welcome to the bike industry, which happens to be an industry almost as any other. Shocking isn't it?
  • 1 0
@TheR: Now you're thinking like a porn studio.
  • 2 0
@lostlunchbox: cue in the crew justifying the prices because of "the technology improvements". How's that ROE working for you lads?
  • 4 2
Either be more specific or keep stuff like this to yourself.
Alluding to some mysterious "behind the scenes" drama without backing it up at all, is just in bad taste.
  • 1 0
@lostlunchbox: I thought the same but personally years ago didn’t understand which parts are good and bad, and considered buying cheaper bikes. Eg you could find now a Meta 29 from 2019 for 2200 €, but with no compromise favoring the latest RS suspension at least 3900 € are needed for the 2020 version.
  • 2 1
@lostlunchbox: Oops. Right you are. Missed that key fact. In 2015 they released the Capra in the US and it was 3k cheaper than most all other enduro rigs. The industry was happy with the fat margins prior to that. Prices overall have come down from the 7-10k level they were getting away with. YT and Commencal deserve some credit for the shift.
  • 2 1
If he said something bad about Andreu he is a douche. Andre gave YT a lot of credibility with the park guys.
  • 4 3
@ingotaraske: Hello and Welcome to Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't.

I heard from somebody that Lopes said that Andreu sucks at downhill cuz he can't corner for sht.

In other News, Tahnee Seagrave punched Rachel Atherton in her injured shoulder during argument over Kade Edwards. Person who let me know about this said she was repettively trying to hit the injured shoulder while Rachel held her by her hair shouting "you look like that queer Gwyneth Paltrow btch! Go steam your (lady parts)"

Canada: Richie Schley reported to hang out with underaged girls.

Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't - discuss below who is the biggest douche. Oh wait could it be that people who spread stupid rumors are the ultimate Douche Canoes!
  • 1 0
@ingotaraske: Lots of YT still at Poma. Adolph for example.
  • 21 2
Commencal never gets mentioned, but they are amazing bikes that just rip. Meta TR is one of the best bikes on the market, not for the money, just straight up best.
  • 11 0
Much to my dismay, they are never for sale in the buysell.. which might indicate how good they are.
  • 1 0
@tobiusmaximum: I am selling a Meta AM 29 here in Spain... my limit is too low compare to the bike´s one!
  • 4 0
I agree, their bikes are always loved by those who ride them and seem to take a beating with no issues. I will always enjoy watching @yoannbarelli send it on his Meta 29!
  • 14 1
Never mentioned? Have I been on a different pinkbike?
  • 2 3
i know someone working for sram and he could ride and has ridden every frame he wants from every bike brand out there and guess what he is riding...commencal.
  • 7 0
As someone who just clicked "Complete Order" on a Meta TR for my gf yesterday, I thank you.
  • 1 0
@cole-inman: have you already got one?!
  • 15 2
I'm not going to lie....I usually don't buy things based on sponsorships----but they finally got me. I've bought some PlusCBD because of Cam McCaul and I think my next bike is going to be a Commencal. Mainly because I'm the size of Kyle Strait but I like the energy of a bike company that signs Andreu.

I’ve had four sets of Brendog grips. I hope he gets 100% of the sale price in his pocket.
  • 2 0
@jaame: they are awesome grips, my wife put them on her bike. The only reason I don’t have them myself is I’m waiting for my lizard skins to wear out, and they refuse to. My lizard skins have been three bikes, they are absurdly durable.
  • 1 0
@jaame: I just checked them out....I might try a pair- I've had like 10 pairs of TroyLee ODI's because I love that little flange at the inner part....and those Brendog's have the same--plus I like those black/red swirl ones. Plus I ride gloveless Wink

To be honest I’m a bit of a sucker for product endorsements.
I’m a big Rams fan, so it’s natural I want to support them by buying Corona beer.
I also love NASCAR, and I want to support the series through its beer sponsor (Corona).
Also women’s tennis, and Mexican boxing are fast growing sports which can benefit from a cash injection. That’s why I choose to support them through purchasing Corona beer.
Other than those ones, I don’t support any other sports endorsements companies. Especially not Red Bull, but that’s not because I’m against the sports they endorse. Just that it tastes disgusting and probably makes your teeth fall out if you drink too much. Unlike Corona beer which has no known side effects.

@Truthteller007: that’s cool with me. Brendog is one of the realest mofos in the game and it is a PLEASURE for me to put money in his pocket. Plus it helps that I really like the grips (small diameter with flange).
  • 2 0
@jaame: only grips I've been able to use gloveless.
  • 2 0
@BenPea: Yeah I love the grips. That they are Brendog's is just a bonus. Plus the plastic end cap interference fit is spot on because I like to hold my grips right to the very end.

With all the firepower Commencal has its obvious they have legit bikes!!! Reason I say that, in my area a lot of people dislike the brand and I’ve always loved them from the beginning when I first bought my bike in Carlsbad when they first opened up. Stéphane has been nothing but the best here in the US region. Great job Commencal.

've been on TREK for a while, Canyon in and out, but I'ver always favored the meta V3 I got back in 2012. Then 2020 back to the META AM 29, was a bit scared of the the weight, but felt in love after the first ride (both up and dowhill). Commencal bikes have a little thing special that I've never found in any other brands. Love you Max!
