Christchurch Adventure Park

We are set to be the Southern Hemisphere’s largest lift-accessed trail network. Based in Christchurch’s Port Hills, 20 minutes from the City Centre, we boast New Zealand’s longest chairlift, taking riders and their bikes to a height of 468m. A devastating wildfire ripped through the Park in February 2017, destroying the entire trail network. However, after a tremendous effort by our trail crew, we reopened in December 2017 with a beginner trail, a blue intermediate flow trail, and a double black single track trail. Over the Summer, more trails will be opening, and by March 2018 the trail network is expected to be at a place where it was before the fire, with a mix of all levels and machine built flow and hand-built single track. Trail construction will continue through the winter for an epic season of riding in Summer 2018/19. Aside from the riding, we also host a Zipline Tour, with 4 dual ziplines including New Zealand’s highest and longest Ziplines as well as a large café & bar with a stunning covered deck - the perfect place for a post-ride beer and fries.

Skyline Rotorua Mountain Bike Gravity Park
We are the world’s first year-round, gondola accessed mountain bike park. Our trail network features eleven mixed-grade trails spanning 12.5km on Mount Ngongotaha, from beginner through to Grade 6 with multi-grade features, a 2km jump trail, and the Crankworx downhill line. We offer a range of Gondola assisted bike passes to suit every rider.

Queenstown Bike Park

We’ll sort out going up, the downhill is all yours. Take on the legendary challenges of the Queenstown Bike Park - New Zealand’s first ever Gondola-assisted Mountain Bike lift. Our crew will attach your mountain bike to a Gondola cabin at the base, and with over 30 world-class trails totaling over 30km in length and dropping 450 meters, all you have to do is ride. We have trails suited for all abilities, making this one of the best places to ride your mountain bike.

Thredbo Mountain Bike Park

Our park is one of Australia’s premier mountain biking destinations. This summer it takes freeriding, cross country exploring and action to a whole new level and elevation with a new trail network and revamped existing tracks. There are 25 kilometres of epic riding to enjoy in Thredbo. From downhill, cross-country, all-mountain and a BMX style pump track, there is lots to love about riding in Thredbo this summer.

EDIT : I still entered

 Thredbo is in the next state over. Only 9 hours drive away. Would be awesome to fly instead of drive. I also entered.
  • 3 0
 Awesome sounding holiday! This would be pretty sweet to win. I'm glad I meet the eligibility requirements.
  • 5 0
 I'm working at cardrona and get discount at skyline. Would it be unfair if I entered?
  • 4 0
 @sam264: Yes. Leave it to us. lol Wink

 @mtbikeaddict: Yeah okay Wink haha
  • 1 0
 @sam264: in cart HQ?
  • 1 0
 @Thelawyer: That's me (we actually don't get discount at skyline, boo)
  • 1 0
 I was about to enter and then I realized the contest is closed, even though the Official Rules proclaimed it open for a while more... teed off. Frown
  • 1 0
 Yeah, I realised I live in Queenstown... Didn't enter as I just can't beat it. Well, Whistler beats it but that's in a different hemisphere!
  • 1 0
 @DamianNZ:
Yeah it's not too bad over here Wink

 To who ever wins this, when you get to rotorua, i would spend half a day at skyline rotorua, then just head into the whakarewarewa forest. That's actually where the riding is.
  • 10 0
 This is spot on advice.

I saw Martin from GMBN say Skyline Rotorua was in his too 5 MTB parks in the world & my heart sank for the poor people that go with high expectations. Don't get me wrong, there's some fun trails there, I ride there more than a few times a year, but it's not in the same ballpark as Skyline QT, let alone Whistler! Especially with the amazing riding just down the road in Whakarewarewa.

 @kit-nz: top 5? Lol. That’s a shame.

 @kit-nz: Telling a little more about GMBN with that recco
  • 3 0
 Agreed. And when in Christchurch, get a rental car and drive up to Craigieburn...
  • 21 1
 Agreed, swap Thredbo for Maydena
  • 11 1
 Thredbo: 4 trails.
Maydena: 30 trails.

Hmmmm.
  • 6 1
 @Mfro 30 epic trails from steep and faster to open and faster! Proud to be Tasmanian!
  • 4 1
 Yup, Thredbos trail network is shite, 3 tracks.
  • 3 0
 @aushred: C'mon now, threddas has a sick pump track though.
  • 2 0
 @Mr-Simply: ok, so Thredbo has 5 trails.
  • 1 2
 100% Maydena shits all over thredbo hands down... gives queens
town a run for is money
  • 10 0
 I always fly Air NZ to Canada and NZ.... huge props to them for putting this up with the other partners! Choice Oh, and sorry NZ for that Lynx Australia, horrible idea, great ad though !
  • 13 2
 If I win, can I skip Thredbo and stay in NZ where the good riding is?
  • 5 0
 Having flown to Queenstown a few times, i have used a carrier other than Air Nz once. i regretted it heavily. i am more than happy to spend the extra bucks to fly with them
  • 4 1
 Plus they have the best safety demonstration videos.
  • 2 0
 QANTAS took four weeks to deliver our luggage from Adelaide to Queenstown. By then we had been gone for two weeks. The lovely people at the place we stayed at looked after it for us whilst QANTAS took another four weeks to get it from there back to Adelaide. The one upside of all that -- we had an excuse to spend an excessive amount of money in Queenstown on nice new underwear and other clothes and a really excellent tatonka duffel bag. AirNZ next time for certain!

 From the rules page:
The Contest is open to entrants from Australia, or New Zealand, or British Columbia, Canada, or Washington, Oregon, California,United States.

So for Canadians, only residents of BC can enter and for Americans, only residents of Washington, Oregon, and California can enter?
  • 1 0
 @charmingbob I assume only because AirNZ only flys to major cities in those regions.
  • 2 0
 The contest is geo-targeted to those regions. If you’re outside these regions you’re unlikely to see the contest. But if you do and you enter and win, the winner will just need to fund their own way to one of the departure ports listed. Hope that clears it up, good luck!
  • 1 0
 Hah yay I'm from Oregon
  • 2 0
 Cool contest idea! Being in canada i always wanted to go to the Southern Hemisphere to ride. Stuck with bills and truck payments at the moment, this trip would change my life in great way possible, whoever goes should have to do a edit of the trip to show how much fun it would be!
  • 9 3
 Thredbo has 3 trails, hardly a bike park...
  • 1 1
 Should be MT Buller instead
  • 10 0
 Should be Maydena, no question
  • 2 0
 Just got back from a trip NZ to all of those spots! Will say the riding in NZ is right there with what's in BC and it was amazing to skip a bit of winter. I would definitely make sure that Nelson NZ was part of this trip if I were to win or go back as that and Whakawara forest in Rotorua were my riding highlights. The sky couch on Air NZ is amazing too and I only use Air NZ for over pacific flights in the future! Hope I win but can't wait to go back!
  • 2 0
 Congrats to @TheBigBaboiiski.

But seriously, spend some time and possibly an extra few dollars to go to either Maydena or Derby (both in Tasmania). Thredbo is a poor comparison to these (can you tell I've just come back from a week at both?).
  • 2 0
 This sort of trip has been on my radar for a while. Kinda would've liked to have thrown Maydena in that mix. Win or not, NZ is on my bucket list and I'd really like to bring my bike with me.
  • 2 1
 Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, this is awesome. Thanks for making two lucky people very happy with the great prize... congrats to whoever those will be. My dad loves mountain biking; he's who first got me into the sport. Lately, his health hasn't been optimal... what a potential way to (try to) repay him for years of happiness. Hope this can be his birthday present...
  • 2 1
 Anyone else have this problem? "Over the summer, more trails will be opening, and by March 2018 the trail network is expected to be at a place where it was before the fire, with a mix of all levels and machine built flow and hand-built single track." Summer... then March? I was all like, Very confused , and then I realized... oh, wait, we're talking NZ. That's Southern Hemisphere. Facepalm lol

 Does the Washington/Oregon/California requirement for US entrants just mean that you need to be able to fly out of one of the listed airports? Or does that mean you actually need to be a WA/OR/CA resident to be eligible to win?

I hit enter either way just in case.
  • 2 0
 Your entry still counts. Good luck!
  • 1 0
 Wow. Only Vancouver or San Francisco for our side of airports. Given that CA, WA, and OR were the eligible states, I'm a little surprised that SeaTac or Portland, at least, weren't included. On the other hand, if only two were picked, the northern and southern extremes sort of make sense, especially as Pinkbike is BC based, and Washingtonians could go to BC. Oregonians could figure it out, I guess. At least I'm close to Vancouver, BC. Big Grin
  • 4 0
 Not sure about 25km of riding in Thredbo, maybe if you included the XC fireroads.
  • 3 1
 I thought the All-Mountain was 10, the Flow was 7 and the Cannonball was 6. So that's not to far off.
  • 2 0
 Don’t forget Thredbo Valley Trail- that’s about 17km
  • 2 0
 Looking at the rules, I hope pinkbike doest make assumptions about where people are legally resident from the public info on their profile
  • 2 0
 Have wanted to visit Christchurch since I was 9...36 years latter. Darn National Geographic Magazine.
  • 1 0
 I live in the desert so there arnt even hills to ride down let alone mountains. Would love this trip so I could ride actual proper mtb parks!

  • 6 4
 Thredbo sux. Can I trade it in for AWABA
  • 1 0
 Just wait until they get shuttles going for the pump track.
  • 2 0
 What a tremendous opportunity
  • 2 0
 That would be the trip of a lifetime
  • 1 0
 This would be awesome, pretty specific requirements for the winner and I meet them so maybe a better chance of winning!?
  • 3 1
 I reckon they need to put the wairoa gorge bikepark in there.
  • 2 0
 Na, It's like all mountain is 10, flow is 5 and downhill is 3
  • 2 0
 I'd give up a kidney to win this.

  • 1 0
 Would love to win this! Visiting New Zealand is on my bucket list!
  • 1 0
 Which one is the best bike park over there?
  • 5 0
 In time it will be Christchurch but as of today its Queenstown
  • 2 0
 @worldrider:

I still rate Queenstown over Christchurch simply because outside of the lift assisted stuff Queenstown has way better trails.
  • 2 0
 @worldrider: Wairoa Gorge.
  • 3 0
 @Flowcheckers Wairoa Gorge
  • 2 0
 @worldrider: wairoa gorge no questions
  • 2 0
 @H4m-human: when (if) wairoa ever gets proper uplift then sure- but it doesn't and chch + qtown do so Im sorry but I dont see wairoa in the running as a competing international destination no mater how good the trails are. Also was missing those all-important easy tracks the last time I was there- think the stuff you can go down with your significant other and both have fun but just at different speeds eg A-line.
Should people include it in a tour of NZ? hell yes, you would be stupid to miss it
  • 1 0
 @worldrider: Wairoa is never getting a lift. That idea isn’t even in the stratosphere of that operation.

It’s a cool place, it’s actually some decent riding. Blown out, poorly built, deforested laps in chch doesn’t sound very appealing.

The riding outside of Qt is unreal, corotown is a sick trail, riding in Alexandra is super rad.
  • 1 0
 @bonfire: is there shuttles in the wairoa gorge tho
  • 1 0
 @Robeshredder247: You can get uplift, just not chairlift. If you haven't checked out Wairoa yet then you should put it on your to do lift- even if you end up peddling up. Its just not a headliner ticket seller for the likes of Air NZ etc- more for the roadtriping mtb tourist- internal or external. Wish it had been there when I lived in Nelson, but that was so long ago we were just building the first Kaka hill track back then
  • 1 0
 lol @ longest lift in NZ taking you to the dizzying heights of 400m ASL.
