This year's Whip-Off World Championships kicked off Crankworx Rotorua in pure style with its very own dedicated jump, built specifically for this event. It's the first time in the history of Crankworx that the builders have made a jump intended for cracking big whips off and showcasing the best sideways action going.
An event originally started by Sven Martin five or so years ago in Whistler, the Whip-Off champs have evolved into an official event spanning all three Crankworx locations. To kick things off at Rotorua, a big drop sent riders into three options where they can go straight or hip off either side. Most riders took the middle line in order to maximize their sideways potential, but it was unanimous that this was the best jump that's ever been made for a whip contest. You just can't beat a great whip and this is after all what it's all about...
| The top three are super unique in styles and approaches, which sets them apart - crazy good and even more sideways than the top three, but all so similar... The top three had their own style. Whips super hard to judge because they are an art typed trick - I hate the fact that it's judged and would just rather give everyone beers - Sven Martin |
