Trailforks truly makes my travel experience even better. Thanks Pinkbike for that awesome app

Would give up on everything, and move to Canada and ride for the rest of my life if i won this beast
  • 22 0
I really do hope you win and in a year we'll have a very inspiring post to read on the front page about your story, motivating me to give up on everything and move to Canada,,, oh wait! :p
  • 7 0
I'm pretty sure I'd poop myself if I won that bike... Then clean myself up and promptly go for a ride upon receiving it
  • 2 0
It's pretty nice. I can tell you that much.
  • 8 0
That's a dream build right there. And the Trailforks app just makes me want to go explore all the trails around me that I've never ridden.
  • 6 0
Contests like this make me so excited. The opportunity to be able to win something like this is truly awesome, thank you for everyone involved in putting things like this together, and best of luck to everyone entering!
  • 4 0
So I logged out and back in on my Trailforks app. How can I be assured that I have been entered? There's nothing that says 'congrats, you've been entered' or anything. I guess I will just need to have faith that it worked? OR the bike will show up on my doorstep and THEN I'll know that I was, in fact, entered.
  • 9 0
we look at unique user login during this time period and then draw from that.
  • 3 0
@radek: its not the 18th yet...
  • 2 0
@radek: I was just looking through the official rules and it states that upon first login you need to enter your name, email, and address. I didn't see any way to do that on trailforks but that info is on my Pinkbike profile. So...... Am I good?
  • 1 0
@dro-cfr: yeah, you login with your pinkbike profile.
  • 5 0
What happens for Windows phone users ? Does it work by connecting with the mobile website ?
  • 2 4
Yeh no love for Nokia users here, we get penalised for having a phone that doesn't break?!
  • 12 0
@ctd07: Just find a friend with an iphone or android and have them log out of their account and login with your own credentials. Problem solved.
  • 1 0
 @mdg3d: genious! haha
  • 6 0
Those subtle red highlights on the rear derailleur, though...
  • 3 0
So does the contest begin today 17th on the black/yellow banner or tomorrow the 18th as seen in the comment below the banner? Hope I didn't waste my chance at submission today on such a sick rig Frown
  • 1 0
There was a typo. Yes starts today the 17th.
  • 3 2
I wonder why the new standard is to move brakes so far inward on the handlebar. Last time my bike was at the shop they had them angled down severely (for a more aggressive riding position apparently), and inward on the handlebar. Who knows............
  • 7 0
2 different things there. Inward is ideal for 1 finger braking. Brakes are so awesome now (if bled properly) that they work well with just 1 finger. As for the angle, having a more parallel brake while the bike is on flat ground means when it is pointed downward it is more likely to be in-line with your arms while descending. I tried this approach and while it felt weird it helped alleviate numbness on long descents. Now I'm used to it and won't go back.
  • 4 0
You get the most work with the least effort out of a lever when you apply your force to the end of the lever.
Moving the brake levers inward ensures that your fingers are always applying their force to the end of the lever & not choking up on them.

No logical explanation for pointing them down...
  • 1 1
When I had SRAM brakes on my bike I had to run the levers inboard AF.
  • 1 0
@HpSauce: Unless you're lanky in the upper body and like to stay over the front. Like me. I'm confounded by this flat brakes trend lately - set em to match the head angle or a little steeper and call it day as far as I'm concerned.
  • 1 0
@tinfoil: I've spotted Yoann, Loic and a few others run their brake levers almost parallel to the ground. Heard in some PB video clip Yoann say this lever position is better for riding super steeps. I tried it, didn't like it. Felt like I needed to ride further back on the bike, run a weak grip (thing golf grip) and got arm pump/sore hands/wrists quickly.
  • 2 0
 @tinfoil, @gonecoastal:
The logic behind high brake levers would be this: www.pinkbike.com/photo/13840508

Basically, if your levers are pointed down at the same angle as your head tube: Then your arms, wrists & hands are all in line with your head tube as well. That leaves only your little bitty thumb joint to do all the holding on in the event of a hard impact or huck to flat that wants to push you down/forward.
(On steep terrain, this would be exaggerated even more, because your levers would be tipped so far forward that your hands would be past 90 degrees and pointing underneath you).

If your levers are raised up higher: This means your hands are also much more flat/horizontal on the bars. That puts the entire palm of your hand resting straight down on the bars, with your wrists putting their pressure behind the bars & it leaves your hands in a much, much better position to take the forces of a hard down/forward impact.

The physics behind higher brake levers is there, it definitely makes sense.
If you prefer not to use it, because of personal preference, or because of personal riding style or whatever, that's totally cool! Keep doing whatever you have to do to shred your bikes.

Now... Less typing, more biking for me. I said my piece, I'm out.

Cheers.
  • 1 0
@HpSauce: I totally get that. I'm more continuing this conversation out of personal interest than anything so feel free to ignore. The thing about being an orangutan is that your elbows stick out while riding a bike. when they do that, the weight comes off the thumb and onto the outside of the hand. I have never felt my thumbs get stressed riding but I do have callouses on the pad beneath my pinky finger. I also run my brakes extremely far inboard so I'm not even sure my hands sit straight.

The other thing is that running steep levers seems to help get me in attack position, although that's pure conjecture. Anyway, different strokes for different folks. It likely has a lot to do with build, riding style and bike fit. There seem to be people much faster than me doing it both ways.
  • 1 0
so...is this for a frame of a pre-selected size or will the winner be able to select the size? Seems like every time I see a raffle they got a size medium bike sitting there but only talk about how awesome it is. Well, I don't buy the tickets...
  • 1 0
I would also like to know the answer to that. I am a tall rider riding a XL frame...
  • 3 0
Just got such a huge lusty bike boner the reign is my current bike fantasy but if I win I'll sacrifice a baby to the dark bike lord every day
  • 2 1
@radek Can you confirm the actual prize? The language is not consistent.

The prize page says the below which implies you win a 2016 Giant Reign 1 (Complete bike) in addition to the parts listed. The implication comes from the lack of reference to frameset only + listing the value of the entire Reign1 bike.

"9. One (1) 2016 Giant Reign 1 (Total estimated value $5549 CAD) , RockShox Lyrik Fork (Total
estimated value $630CAD), RockShox Monarch Plus (Total estimated value $365CAD), SRAM
Eagle Drivetrain (Total estimated value $1,900CAD), RockShox Reverb Seat Post (Total
estimated value $525), Truvativ Descendant Handlebar (Total estimated value $100CAD),
Truvativ Descendant Stem (Total estimated value $100CAD), SRAM Rail 40 Wheelset (Total
estimated value $920CAD), SRAM Guide Ultimate Brake set (Total estimated value $335CAD)"

That's some wizardry getting the bike to stand up like that. That Bike has so much respect for itself that it holds itself up! To bad mine would flop off a cliff If i turned my back on it.
  • 4 0
Was a winner ever chosen for this?
  • 1 0
Was this all a set-up to get as many people to create accounts with the promise of bike when there was really no bike at all? I fell for it...
Well Played evil trail forks master minds!!!
  • 3 0
