Olivier Cuvet and Max Peythieu got to race with a drone on the Full Serlin track near Grenoble, France. The drone meant that the pilot could both follow and be chased by the riders, giving a brand new perspective of the track. We just can't wait to try it on other crazy tracks.
Come on! Look at the shaky moments, just as someone who would be in front/behind the rider landing roughly... not filmed on a drone unless it's bumping into leafy twigs along the trail at exactly the right moments and changing altitude perfectly in time with every lip and jump.
I watched it and it looks more like a drone automatically following the first rider in the group. Sometimes the camera is pointed forwards and get the rider who the drone is following and sometimes it's pointed backwards, getting the rider behind the person the drone is following.
Looks (smells?) a little fishy to me as well. I build, fly, and film with drones as a hobby, and my opinion is this is mounted on a steadycam / servo rig on a riders helmet or something. Drone footage would be much smoother. Wouldn't be following the lips and landings and berms like that. Also would be very dangerous, even with a skilled pilot. Not to mention someone willing to destroy their expensive drone filming a line somewhere like that with all those tight trees. Would love to be proven wrong though!
I'm calling fake too. I think they must have cropped the helmet cam (gimbal?) footage to smooth out the bumps, then all you have to do is add in some pesky drone noise and most people are fooled.
Yeah, not a drone. Gimbal on rider (forward and reverse). What modern drone records audio anyway? Wind + prop sounds would make audio useless. Even if it was a drone, kind of a waste as you could get the same footage with better audio with a rider-mounted gimbal.
@Olivier Cuvet want to come clean? Or say who the drone pilot is and let's see more his work? On your FB post you say "Max and I had a chance to meet the craziest drone pilot in the universe in serlin! Discover the full serlin as you have never seen, and be there on may 5th for the opening!". But you don't mention his name, tag him, etc.
Had me for the first ten seconds. I've seen what the mini race quad pilots can do. But after looking at the rest of the video, its a gimbal on a helmet with audio over the top. Ghhheeyyy
Edit, it seems the youtube account & PB posting name are the same. Can anyone pay to have an article on PBs front page?
I have a really hard time believing this was filmed on a drone. Especially the reverse angles with likely no direct vision of the "drone" from the pilots position.... I would say it's filmed form another bikers perspective?
Unless the drone is doing all the jumps too, this was not shot with a drone. If I added buzzing to my Whistler POV footage and titled it "A-Line Drone Footage" would it end up on PinkBike's front page?
It looks like you could probably pay to have it on the front page like Oliver has done here. Small account with few followers. Odd. Not the quality we're used to?
April 1st already? There was a similar hoax posted on the front page about three months ago... This is a gimbal mounted on a helmet, and a bad one at that - a good gimbal isn't that shaky. Real drone footage looks like this: m.youtube.com/watch?v=5aqTL6V6JIM
I don't think that is a drone. It follows the contour of the trail too closely to be it. I think it is a gimbal mounted GoPro on a helmet and they just added the drone sound to the video.
@donpinpon29: Most likely a 360° camera attached to Sam's helmet. The footage allows to change the virtual camera position in post-production. See concept explained here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BXLPHtViok
some of my co workers are big into quadcopter racing, and they could pilot their quadcopters through this no problem, but doing it on a film drone is unreal.
Even if it was a drone, kind of a waste as you could get the same footage with better audio with a rider-mounted gimbal.
