Charlie Sponsel of
TEAM ROBOT shows us his local trails and his secret training facility as he prepares for the final races of the 2014 season. Brought to you by
Gravity Components.
An Oregon local, Charlie gets to ride the sort of trails most people dream about, but those trails are only one part of Charlie's intensive training program.
Charlie recently took the win at the 5th round of the NW Cup at Stevens Pass. Check the video to learn about Charlie's secret training weapon. This one cross training secret could be the difference between winning and losing in your next race. Charlie won a race once, so you should listen to what he has to say. Photo by Reilly Kintzele.
One word, people: #tacoboarding. Prepare to have your mind blown.

All the power to him for having an opinion, but don't treat him as some sort of messiah of common sense. At the end of the day, most of what he says is just extremist bike bullshit to pull in pageviews, not anything founded or based upon anything. He's a comedian, not an expert.
And at the end of the day, he's here for this kind of response. He loves the controversy he stirs up. He loves that he can post a video of bike riding, and people will talk about his personality instead. He's already stoked, and a few words aren't going to bring him down. Don't worry too much about defending him.
Bring on the downvotes. That's what I'll be get "for having the balls to express what I feel."
I wasn't at the Whistler Enduro, but my friends that were agree with him.
Not saying I hate the guy, just don't really respect him either, y'know? He's just another bike rider. A fast one at that.
Charlie can poke fun all he wants, but if he isn't putting in some serious training miles on big long riders he's not going to enjoy future events in Whistler. Many locals have voiced their opinion not to have things dumbed down next year just because some kid with a blog that just started riding trail bikes in 2012 wasn't prepared.
Try it. "I'm super hardcore at bikes. I can ride 100 km and climb 2500 m because I'm awesome and fit and I ride Whistler like a boss. This is funny because..... ______."
Sorry if it came out like that. I wasn't trying to contend with him nor state I know more (not sure how I did either, but c'est la vie.) My point is only to say; he's just another dude. Top post is defending him for having the brass to state his opinions, was trying to put that into context. He has the big enough balls to say... Knolly's have too many pivots? Uh. Okay?
It's not like he's spreading some insider information and he's trying to do us a favour. He's just a comedian trying to lighten up bikes. I don't respect him very much, as I said, but I don't hold the guy in contempt either. It's perfectly reasonable to be critical of someone you don't wish death upon, y'know.
TL;DR, I don't think I know better or am better than Charlie, I just think people get a bit silly defensive when someone mocks him. He puts his opinions out there in a harsh way, so people post about him harshly. My point is, after all, that we all have opinions and we should all be taken with a grain of salt. He's just another guy, not an expert.
Cheers dude. My apologies if my language was misleading, though I'm not sure where you read into "you think you know better than he does." It was not my intention.
Little to no budget, no responsibilities, no f*cks given, and fast as hell. Ghetto living, pirate lines, gooning, and getting loose are all they live for, and rightly so.
Ratboy is the sole exception, I just wish that Syndicate would fly him to Whistler and let the carnage ensue.
Ps I don't care how many Whistler locals apparently don't want the EWS round to be dumbed down, if Graves says it's no longer fun, then changes have to made.
