CUBE ACTION TEAM RACE BIKE 2015

Jan, you are responsible for the new team bikes for 2015 – what do you like most about the new bike?

Once again the design is very well done. There are a lot of small and nice details hidden, like the handlebar and stem from Syntace, which were painted just for us. Concerning the technology, I am very curious about the new XTR 11-speed, but especially about the Di2.

The Stereo 160 SHPC was already tuned perfectly last year, what's new for this season?

Together with our sponsors, we are permanently working on developments. With the new XTR, the new hubs from DT and ultimately, the new set-up-tunes from Fox there are again changes which are not immediately visible, but indeed noticeable for the rider. The highlight of the new frame is the type of material. The frames have been produced with the new C68 technology, so they are even stiffer and lighter.

The team was already riding the new Fox 36 last year. Which set-up are you going to choose for this one?

Fox already sent us the tunes for 2016. In Malaga we are going to work together with Fox to look at what changes and how they function and we are going to test the ideal set-up for every rider.

The frame was specially tuned to the Fox Float X, what is special about that?

The frame has a dent in the down tube so that the compensating reservoir of the Float X rear shock has space. Please, never use a Float X in a normal Stereo 160!

It is the very first time that the new electronic XTR has been mounted on team bikes. Was something changed with the cable routing?

Yes, we had to modify the frame a little because originally it was not prepared for the Di2. However, I think we have done a good job. In the coming testing days we are going to find out whether everything is working as I imagined.

Are you now using the 20mm axle from DT Swiss in the front wheel?

Yes, the new axle is lighter and stiffer. Until now, we worked with an adapter and a 15mm axle.

Lastly – a final word on the victory of Nico at the Andes Pacifico?

I am very happy for him and I am very excited about the new season! Once again, congratulations! I think it was the perfect start to the upcoming season and I am convinced that we are going to pocket one or two good results together! I am happy and proud of the trust the team riders have placed in me and my work!

Strange article, there's literally no information. The questions are often as general as "what did you do to improve the bike" and the answers were typically as nebulous as "made it better."

Quality journalism right here. I guess we now know 20mm is stiffer than 15mm, and that their setup for the 36 will be "the ideal one for each rider."

Nice.

They should have left out the words completely.

I havent written a comment or reply in years, but this article is enough to warrant one. This article was indeed a joke. I would expect higher quality from a non professionally run site, and I'd probably get it as well.

Its user generated....guess Cube need better PR and/or should stick to making bikes.
  • 1 0
And where is the price ?
  • 14 0
Stand over height didn't come into the equation then ?!
  • 7 0
I thought the same things - looks like a real farm gate compared to something like the new Norcos.
  • 8 1
Get over it! Haha get it? Standover height.. get over it?! Nevermind. Taxi!
  • 1 1
I think it is an XL frame that's why
  • 1 0
Isn't it super short then for an XL? Cube should stick with 29er hardtails and road bikes, as they do a pretty good job there. Anything that has more travel just sucks if you ask me (remember that DH bike? Or the Hanz with 180mm and a front deraileur? Or these snap-happy Stereos?).

Cube = Elsworth when I'm wearing beer goggles.

Is than a new tooth profile for the XTR 1x? Looks much better than the previous one.

From my experience tooth height and shape is much more important than narrow wide for chain retention (nsb vs wolftooth)
  • 1 0
And of course the rear derailleur is the most important of all.
  • 1 0
 Apparently not
  • 5 1
Looks fast and fun. And begs the question, what's the point of 15mm front axles?
  • 2 0
Yeah, running what they're running, you would assume 20mm would be in order. Love the components, the frame reminds me of the old stinky
  • 2 0
Missed opportunity to inform me about c68 and why I may want it.
I guess they prefer to let the riding/results do the talking!
  • 1 0
You may want it because it is extremely strong and light. The amount of carbon fiber is bigger compared to other frames, the "resin" is reduced. If it works as fine as o the hardtails, it's very impressive.
  • 2 1
This was a cube marketing meltdown. It was honest but dumb of them to tell consumers "never use a fox float x in a normal stereo 160". Know your readers, hint hint I'm in the market for a enduro bike.
  • 3 0
The "normal" Stereo has the standart float shock without the external reservoir, which is specificially tuned for the frame and will work fine. I've tested a few Stereo frames and there is literally no need for am external reservoir for most riders. The frame may even get damaged if you use one due to the lack of clearance.
For heavier purposes, there is the Fritzz frame... which will provide enough space for most rear shocks.

That is one ugly ass bike and I absolutely love orange and blue.
  • 2 0
was just going to post the same if kona made a carbon coiler or stinky back in 05/06
  • 3 0
Now that is a color-matched bike.
  • 3 1
"We spec a Float X for our team riders, but you can't put that in your bike." Running change for 2015?
  • 4 2
Their 2015 bikes are already out, 2016 perhaps.
  • 2 0
good to see lotsa componentry not ready for market yet. buy it anyway right?
  • 11 9
Ugly cranks in an ugly bike! sorry...
  • 6 1
I think this is an example, where functionality and simplicity met style in a very acceptable way, i like this bike.
  • 7 0
Don't be sorry! It's just, like, your opinion, man.
  • 7 1
im with my greek communist buddy...... so much effort colourwise for such an unelegant result
  • 2 0
Couldn't agree more !! I know they are meant to be a great bike but man that thing is ugly
  • 2 0
Kinda looks like the old Konas
  • 1 0
Team colors are flaming! Solid black or gunmetal gray would do. I guess they want to really stand out in a bad way.
  • 2 0
Did they engineer that dent in the frame?
  • 1 0
Yes! It's inculded for the sole purpose of beeing able to ride external reservoirs.
  • 1 0
nice! comes pre dented. the colour and i guess the looks reminds me of the yeti lawwill a tad.
  • 1 0
 What garmin mount is that?
  • 1 0
It looks like the bar fly www.barflybike.com/bar-fly-mtb Personally I am not a big fan of mounting a big screen garmin 1000 on the top of my handlebar. It is a great place for smashing the screen. I don't think that any of the edge series is particularly good for mtb anyway which is why I am selling my edge 1000 and getting a fenix 3 instead.
  • 1 0
Barfly Garmin mount, switched backwards I'm guessin -edit Should probbly update the page before I type next time Big Grin

 Love my cube.
