Sep 3, 2014
by Dave Trumpore
World Champs is the one time each year where riders get to represent their country in addition to their season long sponsors, and with this always comes an influx of one of bikes and riding gear.

As the week progresses, watch this space for updates and photos as we bring you all the unique and custom details that help make World Champs that much more special.

Sam Hill's bike says it all. He is very confident in his riding right now and is definitely one to be feared. Go for the gold Sam!

It's a matte gold anodizing and needs light to really show it's full shine. I shot the pic on this page in bright sunlight for example.

big bird, thats what happens when you sack the iso up and don't do a proper WB off a raw image. what colour is the boxer lettering on a boxer fork?

Aussie competition colours are green and gold. He's just repin

"Rachel is the only of one of the Atherton crew who will repping the red, white and blue, as they could only get her size frame sprayed up in time" Nice one GT you've only had a year to get some frames made a sprayed if i was Gee id go down to the local hardware store and but 3 cans of paint and do it myself only take 20 mins.

Yeah..its just aussie gold..which we like to call yellow on the other side of the Indian ocean

 STRAYA!
  • 2 1
The colour of the bike in the link looks better than on this page. It looks like raw titanium on the link, on this one it looks like a dirty gold, mingin!! Like the polished linkage and calipers tho.

What a vibe to see the words Hill and Sunday on the same phrase .... Smile .... gold was a lucky colour back in Rotorua ... go for it Sam let's take the rainbow once again ...

@heavyp And it's not the most elaborate paint job either, they should be embarrassed for how mediocre it turned out. Dear Lord GT, what have you done?

No other country has a helmet that represents them so well.
  • 35 3
That helmet is the best custom piece on this page. Friggin hilarious.
  • 8 4
seriously nice paintjob though, amazing how some of the best art ive seen lately is on a dh lid, and while it may not be historically correct the symbolism is spot on
  • 5 2
He should really be riding that eagle on flats with a helmet on...

"No other country has a helmet that represents them so well."

Just a reminder, not all of us are warmongering imperialist slaves to the military/industrial complex. I am sorry this is our image in the world... humorously intended in a piece of art or no.

p.s. neg prop away.
Note: this comes from an American combat veteran who lived many years outside the US, hates war, and loves bikes. おやすみなさい. 안녕히게세요.

I think the washington eagle helmet is a cool idea, but in terms of technique, i can't stop looking at washington's leg. its jacked. truth is, coming out of troy lees shop- its not very well painted at all. kinda surprising, musta been an overnight job. nekos helmet is a much better paint job, and minaars bike is the best design on this page.
  • 4 1
"No other country has a helmet that represents them so well." Just a reminder this is a joke, the helmet it meant as a joke, I have never met anyone who actually thinks war of any kind is a good idea. Now let's get back to bikes.
  • 4 0
I hope TLD makes this available on a t shirt
  • 9 0
Thanks for all the comments, Obee1, yes, total overnight job, literally...I dropped the ball with our paint shop and only got them Peaty, Hill, Luca's work orders in days before I had to leave for europe, but as always, our paint shop, squeezed them in and really did an amazing job. As for the 'war' part, man, reading into it a bit much? Luca's helmet art idea is just a kid having some fun with an idea for a paint job-as was Sam Hill's, with a kangaroo drinking a beer. This is mountain biking, we are loose and ragged, and this is TLD which is owned and operated by Troy, just a regular dude who loves bikes and motos but more importantly, loves art.

That's some Stephen Colbert style 'Merica shit! Best helmet at Worlds?

 Airbrush guy to Luca Shaw:
"Okay, Okay you can have George Washington, yes. And he can be riding an Eagle, yes. And holding a rocket launcher, yes. But you absolutely cannot have him motor-boating the Queen, NO!"
  • 3 0
@stikmanglaspell For an overnight job it's really good. I'd rather have that than a boring RedBull helmet
  • 43 0
Peat's bike is my favorite. Like they got some little kid to cut the artwork out of construction paper with dull scissors. It goes so counter to the rest of the racey high tech stuff that it just works. Matches the rider too - in it for sheer laughs.
  • 48 1
Haha Never Nesh!. For foreigners being 'Nesh' is northern english for being a pussy or a wimp. Needing a coat basically. 'It's cold', I'd say as a child, my grandad would reply, 'eee don't be Nesh!'.
  • 2 0
dig the props to his boys on it as well.
  • 12 0
Thanks tobius and fullbug for the clarifications. Had no idea. Sometimes its more fun that way!
  • 5 0
Never really like the santa cruz's but MY GOD Brycelands looks so unbelievably sick in that picture!!
  • 7 5
Too bad Peaty's bike is made out of plastic. How cool would it be if he raced a Reynolds steel DH frame... That would be proper.
  • 19 1
Ominous signs. Sam's paint job looks like his 2006 Ironhorse world champs bike. Go Sam!!!
  • 12 0
 Sam Hill ftw
  • 7 0
George Washington's parents or someone from his family are from Carlisle in the UK, or at least lived there at some point. I know, because there's a plaque outside the property saying so and I used to live on that road. Small world... Sick helmet none the less.

I want to see more of Wyn's Bulls. Can't go wrong with Black and Chrome The wee glimpses of it make me think it'll look BAD-ASS fully built up...Beer

I love it on here that people buzz off riders from all nations even at world champs, just another boss aspect of mtb!

Wow so nice. My bike has nuthin but chips and scratches Frown
  • 10 0
 Mmmm... chips.
  • 5 0
Isn't Sam's bike gold because he is an Aussie and gold is the Aussie kit colours in almost all other sports? As well as his intentions for the race obviously.
  • 8 5
Luca's helmet is pretty cool. The Syndicate should be playing these for Steve...

"Do you want to know why the world is so great?... Because: This is England.
I hear a gang fire on a human factory farm
Are they howling out or doing somebody harm
On a catwalk jungle somebody grabbed my arm
A voice spoke so cold it matched the weapon in her palm
This is England
This knife of Sheffield steel
This is England
This is how we feel
Time on his hands freezing in those clothes
He won't go for the carrot
They beat him by the pole
Some sunny day confronted by his soul
He's out at sea, too far off, he can't go home
This is England
What we're supposed to die for
This is England
And we're never gonna cry no more
Black shadow of the Vincent
Falls on a Triumph line
I got my motorcycle jacket
But I'm walking all the time
South Atlantic wind blows
Ice from a dying creed
I see no glory
When will we be free
This is England
We can chain you to the rail
This is England
We can kill you in a jail
Those British boots go kick Bengali in the head
Police sit watchin'
The newspapers been read
Who cares to protest
After the air attack by flare
Out came the batons and
The British warned themselves
This is England
The land of illegal dances
This is England
Land of a thousand stances
This is England
This knife of Sheffield steel
This is England
This is how we feel
This is England
This is England"

Be sick just his entire run that cranked so the entire pits can hear it.

Gold bike will win gold medal!!

Luca Shaw's helmet is dope but as a Swiss, I would prefer Willhelm Tell shooting down an apple of Walters head instead of Lincoln riding a bird Wink !
  • 31 3
It's Washington dagummit! Lincoln was the 16th King Shit of Planet Earth. He freed a shit ton of brothas from a witches house, deep in the enchanted forest, and made of candy, and then hosted the greatest hip hop battle of all time. Washington was a lumberjack, who chopped down a shit ton of cherry trees, with a bad ass axe forged by wee elves of middle earth. He also doubled as the superhero 'Axe Cop'. Fucking ignant Swiss. Learnt your history. Now go make me a friggin' watch.
  • 10 2
Finally.. Someone who knows their history.
  • 1 1
watch out allmountin, some german guy is gonna comes to his aid while mr. dogtown steps outta the way and holds onto both your wallets while you argue. and never forget that washington also slayed the mayan invaders with his laser eyeballs.

Best of luck to Bruni, would be great to see him take the stripes this year. Or a repeat from sam or danny...
  • 1 0
 BRUNNNIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 2 0
Why is Bruni still on the old lappierre?
  • 5 0
I was asking myself the same thing. Bruni and Blenkinsop only rode the new bike for one race and then used the old one for the rest of the season...
  • 2 0
I think they are just feeling better on a bike they ride for a long time and so changing for a new one for a few last racers does not make sense at this time.
  • 9 3
 Maybe they prefer 26?
  • 9 0
Maybe. If so, it's nice to see that Lapierre want their riders on a bike they like and not on the bike the company wants to sell
  • 2 0
I read it's because they haven't made any large frames yet , in the pics of loic riding the medium mid season he was clearly to big for the frame , looked awkward.
  • 4 0
the old design is 27,5 too
  • 3 0
I think the "old" lappierres they just ride now are actually on 27.5" too... So i think it all comes just to geometry of the new bikes and time to be comfortable with them...
  • 2 0
Definitely no coz they ride 27,5 since last year wc in hafjell Smile
  • 4 0
New bike in their frame size was not finished until late in season and riders don't want to change what they are used too for one or two races.
  • 2 0
this^, they spent alot of time developing the old bike with all that telemetry equipment. I'm sure they're going to do the same in the off season to get the new rig dialed once the large sizes are made.
  • 3 0
