Cycle Monkey Distribution Brings Nicolai Bikes to the United States

We have formed a new partnership with Nicolai Bicycles to bring the German manufacturers’ unique lineup to riders in the United States. Nicolai builds entirely custom aluminum framesets and bicycles, and is well-known for their dedication to craftsmanship, incredible weld quality, and attention to detail.

Nicolai speciaIizes in mountain bikes, and their “longer, lower, and slacker” GEOLUTION geometry—which features an ultra-long wheelbase and slack headtube angle—has turned heads for its distinct handling characteristics and incredible stability. Whether riders opt for a shorter-travel XC bike like the Saturn-11; desire the purebred, dual-crown only DH performance of Ion G19; or find themselves somewhere in between, Nicolai has a platform to get them started on their ideal custom build.

We will initially offer twenty frames and frame/drivetrain combos featuring Pinion gearboxes and Gates Carbon Drive belt systems, in addition to one complete bike. This includes the full suspension Saturn/Ion line (with 105 -190 mm of travel and 27.5˝ and 29˝ wheel options) and the hardtail Argon line (with cyclocross, touring, XC, trail, and fat bike options in 700c , 26˝ fat, 27.5˝, and 29˝ wheel options). The lineup also includes the Eboxx E-14 electric mountain bike, which features a Rohloff SPEEDHUB 14-speed internal gear hub paired with the E-14 electronic shifting system, Gates Carbon Drive belt system, aggressive mid-fat tires around 27.5˝ hoops, and 170mm of front and rear travel.

All Nicolai frames are handmade in Lübbrechtsen, Germany, and each one is built-to-order, allowing the rider to determine everything from the color of each frame part to their exact sizing and preferred geometry. Cycle Monkey will accommodate this wide range of options with a pricing structure that allows for two levels of paint in a huge range of colors (powder/raw or anodized), custom or standard (S, M, L, XL, XXL) sizing, and a choice of Rock Shox, Fox, or Cane Creek Suspension for full suspension offerings. Consumers opting for a low-maintenance Pinion and Gates Carbon Drive-equipped model will be able to choose from Pinion’s range of 9 and 12 speed offerings.

We share a penchant for pushing the envelope with less-conventional technologies with Nicolai, and we both place a premium on building products that help riders express their individuality through the bikes they ride. Our partnership fills a niche in the American market for discerning off-road riders who are ready to embrace radical geometry and non-traditional shifting systems in the name of a more durable and capable mountain bike that’s entirely their own.

bigquotesOver the past decade, Cycle Monkey has worked hard to bring internal shifting to the US market across all disciplines of cycling. Nicolai has also been a forward thinking pioneer of internal gearing systems throughout the years, from their Gboxx system—which incorporated a Rohloff Speedhub into a frame-mounted gearbox—to their early adoption of the Gates Carbon Drive belt system. They were one of the first brands to build e-mtbs and offer Pinion-specific frames, and more recently became the first company to develop a belt tensioner and offer full suspension belt drive bikes. Plus, their early adoption of innovative technologies is matched by their consistent strive for precision in-house construction and strict design standards. The Nicolai product range fits well with our core values of providing top-quality internal gearing systems and bikes that feature these systems.Neil Flock, Owner of Cycle Monkey
