PRESS RELEASE: Dakine

Dakine makes gear for those who are inspired by nature and not afraid to push against predictable and break away from comfort. Gear that combines performance and style and is expertly built for people with a willingness to venture where they’ve never been and do what they’ve never done.

For 2018, we continue with our full line of apparel, packs, gloves, and protection for both technical on-trail riding and the lifestyle parts in between rides. Headlining the 2018 product offering is the Hot Laps Collection. Created in the spirit of traveling light and fast, the Hot Laps Collection features a lineup of minimalist accessories that carry the necessities.

Designed to be worn under a jersey, the Hot Laps Stealth features just enough storage to keep you from walking home: a mini-tool, spare tube, a gel, your phone, and some cash. For those that prefer the function of a waist bag but like to bring more supplies, the Hot Laps 5L comes with increased storage and a squat, 2 liter lumbar-shaped hydration reservoir.

ATHLETES

New to the Dakine Family for 2018 is Spanish rider Iago Garay. Known for taking his smooth style to the roughest EWS tracks across the globe, Iago is an international fan favorite who fits right in with Dakine's close knit crew of riders.

With a busy travel season already underway, the Dakine Bike Team relies on the Bike Roller Bag to transport their tools of the trade around the world. A bike anchoring system and sturdy bag frame structure ensure a stable ride and plenty of control when wheeling through crowded airports. Specific pads and a soft and customizable EVA material elevate and protect your discs, drivetrain, and all sensitive zones.

Included is a roll-up tool bag to help with the build and hold small parts and extra pedals. Even with its rigid structure, this bag packs down when empty, for easy storage between trips or when you get to your destination and it's time to ride.

I miss the days when companies like Dakine just offered good products when they were ready, instead of feeling the need to create a "brand collection". I can stomach model years for cars, but for backpacks?

on the plus side, all the unsold backpacks are sold at a nice discount at the end of each year

There's always going to fanny pack haters, but I have the original hot laps and I take my backpack out less and less. For most before/after work rides it's all you need.

In Australia they're called bum bags...and no self respecting person wears them.

@BobLogiii: same in the uk. They are a runner thing

 Also great for dealing drugs

I have the original hot laps and I use it almost exclusively now. It's also super functional festival attire. Just enough space for a phone, money and some other stuff. Also very breathable while rocking out.

@BobLogiii: In Australia lots of things are called other things and the names are hilarious. The simpsons had a good episode on that.

Hip pack or sweaty back. And, when you actually need to access the gear in your pack, you just turn it around to the front and take what you need at waist level - it's all right there without having to drape your backpack over your bike or trail features. It saves you a little bit of fiddling which is cool when people are waiting for you to finish your trail-side repair. And you don't feel your pack lift off your back when you jump/drop. Function over form. Just works.

@BobLogiii: in whole the world actually, it is only used in social media, no real person wear it

 @BobLogiii: Yet y'all wear uggs...

Nah, not for me thank you. I look at those and I think fanny pack for tourist walking around Disneyland.

Just got the Hot Laps 5L bag and love it. I have a larger Dakine pack that’s almost 10 years old and it’s great. However, I don’t need that much room for 95% of my rides. First ride with the hip pack and I’m a believer. It’s great to not have something on your back. It has just enough space for the necessities as well as the bladder.
It’s not like I look all that cool anyways so I don’t really give a sh!t what others think.

Why not a right hand bottle holder on the Hot Laps?
  • 5 3
 Left hand has less controls
  • 7 0
My thought is its because you want to use the back brake as opposed to the front while riding one handed. It seems like you are less likely to crash this way in my experience

Soo many fanny packs such little time.
  • 5 1
@NebulousNate: Not everyone runs rear right. Left lane driving countries are typically rear left/front right.

Mitchell Ridge got a lot of TLC a couple weeks ago. Those berms are dialed, now.

 All good in the hood!

Managed to pick up their old bike bag before this one was available and it's great!

Dakine should make a bib/vest like the specialized swat to carry a bottle and a few necessities while out for a rip!

That wobbly hose in the closing scene makes me anxious.
  • 3 0
easy fix with moving the magnet mabober. having a 1.5L bladder in a bumbag is so nice. never having to put that dang water bottle back in its pocket. just magnets man.
  • 2 2
Hot laps gripper=branded zip-tie. Also it sounded to me like they were suggesting Thomas Vanderham is smelly?

When you buy one product and it fails on the 3rd ride hard to buy another product from same company.

really thinking about getting the Hotlaps 5L.

Fanny pack, you wonder why you have lower back pain after a ride?
