Wow, that was unbelievable! The speed and skill with which Affie ripped through those trails was nothing short of amazing. Not to mention that was near a full day's worth of riding for many mortals. That video gave me a whole new level of appreciation for EWS athletes. Thanks for sharing that GT.
Yes, the EWS truly separates the big boys & girls from the rest. I participated in a stop this year and was blown away at what they expected our trail/enduro bikes to do. Some say that Enduro is just where the retired downhillers transition to next. For some, that maybe true but even when Fabien Barel was asked that question he said "this is a whole different animal, you gotta be good at everything." Much respect to all the EWS racers and congratulation to Rude and Moseley on one of the most demanding stops on the tour. Also, Big props to my bro Kyle Warner for top 30 in a stacked field...
not being a close follower of ews i missed that, I've mostly seen pics of guys with brain buckets... from the way he was blowing out his nose, and the way he coughed and spit @ the box on freight train i thought he must not have a FF. i certainly cannot spit under my helmet like that. maybe he just spit into the mask & said fukit theres no time for sanitation, in the same spirit that road racers piss themselves. rode like a boss either way
yea wow that was really gnarly regardless of where he started. Hearing him breathe that hard and knowing how gnarly dan is, just goes to show how hard he was pushing!
That was balls out, the craziest run I have ever seen!!!
I was just about to head to bed, but my heart rate just climbed so high, I am going to have to have a hot bath and listen to Kenny G for hours to get to sleep now!!
Massive thumbs up for this post!!!
Holy crap that was so fast I didn't even feel like he was riding a bike, he was flying. The speed at which he took some of those trees was nuts. Wow, that was amazing riding.
They sped up the video.
You can see when they did it, as all of a sudden he lights off the nitrous and accelerates at Mach 3.
If you still can't see it, watch the people as he passes them. IIRC, the first guy in the first group was moving, so FF made him move extra fast.
You can also see it well defined as he's passing the traffic cones on the right. Just watch how fast he goes by 'em.
Anyone who has footage of themselves(I have pretty much the exact run) watch yourself after this and revel in how incredibly slow you are! Haha one of the best videos I have ever watched. Dan Atherton is a beast!
Holy shit. So he full-on pins for 14 minutes, maxing out his breathing the whole time he's working that hard. And then he whips it on the jump in the finish? Freaking next level, right there. Wow. Amazing display of massive balls, backed up by massive skill and fitness. Mad respect...
The best is the part in the middle where he tells himself to 'Chill.... Chill'. Such a beast. This might be the best thing I've ever seen on the internet.
Right before he told himself to chill I could hear he was starting to weeze and go In to the danger zone. Right as that thought crossed my mind he told himself to chill and went right back into his original breathing pattern. Its amazing he could focus about his riding and physical state with that much adrenaline and lack of oxygen to the brain do to the muscles eating it all up. That's a freaking beast right there!
I crashed 43 times, vomit in 3 occasions and had a small heart attack while doing this. Hope all Enduro Haters watch this and get a whole new level of pure RESPECT for this ELITE ATHLETES.
Yeah I bet they wouldn't look too different. That was an incredible run but I bet Rude just picked a couple better lines with all the turns in that course.
He only lost time in a couple of places by just being about an inch off. Can't believe how many rocks and roots he missed. Especially being from across the pond. I forgot what it's like to work this hard. Major respect, and I've been watching him for yrs. I almost think Downhill is less dangerous.
I felt a little bit sick from the hard breathing. I actually needed to breathe faster... Awesome!!! Mad skills. And I've met some people that say that enduro is less than DH.
WOW! I was gunna go for a ride but I'm goin to bed instead, I'm worn out watchin that. Amazing skill and vision at speed, big leg braking boulders whatever, lung bursting climbs piece of piss. Dan's the man and a new found respect for GT for getting him home. Damn!!
yeah, that would be a full days riding for me right there, couple of picnics in between. Unreal how fit those riders are to sustain that pace over such a distance!
How can one go faster than that? We all watched the same video right? What did I miss, that was a massive effort, how??? That's like watching gwin do a really long run!
I think I held my breath most of the way through that, wow great perspective on how hard these guys ride and now fast. The fatigue factor could easily end in disaster at those speeds so respect! Would love to see a heart rate reading through that ride, he must me maxed out for at least half.
Remember the movie Rad and Hell track, well Hell track ain't got shit on this...Atherton Slays it everytime he stradles a bike..Oh and if you think he wasn't going fast then check the time..RAMFB...
ferrari fast bike, fantastic stamina, gonna be hard to beat. at 2 points he was gasping for breath but the next moment he was fine, i wonder how he re-gained his energy so damn quick?
I stared at that video for 14 minutes. I then started reading the comments. Did anybody else's screen seem to s t r e t c h up and down in front of them? It was like one of those magic-eye posters (1990's reference).
wow - thats some lonely riding right there, amazing place, great to see such a long and full on video of the local trails, gives you and idea of the scope of that place
I especially loved the part between 0:01 and 14:22... haha that was crazy.
Richie somehow found 27 seconds in there...
Insane, mad respect!
Only one word can describe this video: SH!7777, he's not human...
Can we have more of these vid's from EWS please?!
One of the best POV's I've ever seen!
Where can I find the "add to favourites" button?
