Video: Dan Atherton Shreds Dyfi for 'Tea & Biscuits'

Jun 6, 2020
by Misspent Summers

The last of our weekly Tea & Biscuits segments takes us to Dyfi Bike Park in Wales, Dan Atherton's masterpiece that he has shaped with the help of family and friends over the course of a number of years.

Tommy C headed out to the Welsh woodlands to film as Dan, Gee and co. hit up some of the monster jumps and techy tracks — Athy at times opting for a BMX where most people would need a big rig. The man's got talent.

We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has watched Tea & Biscuits and followed these segment and extras releases. T&B was an amazing project to work on and the first of many Misspent Summers/Caldwell Visuals collaborations. Keep your eyes peeled.

Thank you to all the riders involved in this section and the rest of the film, to the bands who kindly gave us permission to use the music (Big Quiet in this section), to Nukeproof and Hope for making the film possible, and to everyone else involved.

Would love to see more 18" and 20" bmx bikes on the jump trail lines like A line and Dirt Merchant! Maybe even a race? Red Bull are you listening?

Mate, a BMX race series in bike parks would be rad.

Looked like a 22" which would be a better fit for this type of riding. Curious if there is a DA BMX Bike Check anywhere. Appears to have the Disc Brake treatment as well. Super cool.

Super D from the 2000's - just with tiny wheels. Man, that was some fun racing. I can remember where but we had an MSC race where the starters had us laying down looking away from our bikes.....they then moved all of our bikes without us looking. Confusion definitely ensured a fun time. Darner is the MAN

I wonder about the surface material. It looks like some sort of mixture of gravel/crushed stones and very little soil. Erosion in the long run? Looks rideable in wet though.
  • 2 0
Chances are its a mix of slate/stone/crusher run. After all it is wales and chances are it'd wash away with all the rain they get.

In one of the episodes on Rachel’s new YouTube channel they mention it. It’s something they call badger sand (not sure exactly what that is) mixed with some clay.
  • 3 0
@sino428: sand mined by trained Badgers obviously

Dove, as in the bird, and we, as in the letter e. Definitely not duffy, 1 f in Welsh is pronounced as a v

Okay well that wasn't helpful! LOL!! You all said it differently. Wink Is it a language other than English?
  • 1 0
I’ve been pronouncing it “defy” as in defy gravity.
  • 1 0
@islandforlife: I was thinking the same..., but I'm just not sure that's what Rachel says. But she talks pretty fast and not with the best enunciation... IDK?

@mybaben: Say dove and add another letter e,so its dove-e.The Welsh language is recognised as one of the oldest languages in Europe, were in Wales, its spoken by around 800,000 out of the total population of 3million The goal is to get the number of speakers up to a million by 2050.It's surprising that the language has survived
this long.not sot long ago, speaking Welsh, was prohibited in the schools,as it was considered to harm the Welsh children, this was sanctioned by the UK government at the time, with the publication an 1847 report into the state of Welsh education – commonly known as the Blue Books. It concluded that the Welsh language was the cause of stupidity, sexual promiscuity and unruly behavior.Search "Welsh Not" for more info.

Cheers.
