Need a stem for your Boxxer? Are you looking for something that just holds your bars or would you like to bolt up a stem that will make people look twice?
If you want to add a little splash of color to your ride then read on.....Nearly all of the heavy hitters in the suspension world include a top crown on their big forks that accepts some sort of integrated stem. Unfortunately for whatever reasons none of them have been accepted as "the standard
". Since there is no one standard but due to the large number of Boxxers being ridden the Rockshox direct mount pattern that came out in '05 has the most stem options. The second integrated stem that fits Boxxers that we'll take a closer look at is from Dangerboy
The Dangerboy stem is CNC'd from solid blocks of 6061 T6 and 7075 aluminum right here in Canada. A stem is a pretty small piece of equipment but the boys at DB have taken attention to detail to the next level with this little item. All edges are finished smoothly and there is nothing to smash any of your jiblets on to, as well as a large internal bore to keep the weight down. As with many companies, Dangerboy is only offering the stem in a 31.8 mm handlebar clamp so you'll have to come up with your own shims if 25.4 mm is how you roll. The stem does give you two length options though, a 50mm reach or slightly shorter 45mm mounting holes. The 50mm makes a lot of sense as it seems to be the most common and preferred length these days but I would have liked to see sub-40mm mounting holes. The 50mm works perfect for me but only 5mm shorter or longer hardly seems worth having the option. The finished product weighs 234 grams.
One of the nice things about a smaller company like Dangerboy is the flexibility they can offer for colors. You can pick either a polished silver or anodized stealth black main body but it doesn't end there. You have nine
anodized color options for face plates! You can choose (deep breath): Stealth Black, Impact Blue, Infra Red, Military Green, Gun Metal Grey, Agent Orange, Purple Haze, Pink Fusion and if you have a grill then 24K Gold to match.
I greased my bolts and installed it in the 50mm holes. As expected everything mounted fine...If there were any troubles at this point I'd be quite surprised!
Really, what can I say about it? Its made beautifully and didn't creak or move after a big off. I cut my steerer tube awhile back but still need a small 5mm spacer under my headset cap. On some direct mount stems I have had a hard time getting a spacer to fit but there was plenty of room with this one. If you want something that stands out from the crowd of components out there then take a look at what these guys have got. A lot of the colors are close matches to common bike colors so you can coordinate a bit and add a touch of bling to your rig.
I can't believe Cori's mom let me use her for this photo
<Deleted photo> Check them out
as they also do aftermarket levers, chainrings, bash guards, pedals and most importantly bottle openers.
I can't forget about the 888 crowd too. Dangerboy has direct mount stem offerings for them too. The 888 Direct Mount Stem from Dangerboy only comes in the oversized 31.8 mm bore, but you can choose from 9 face plate colors and 2 main body colors. Options to match all rides for sure.
