Building on the momentum from his runaway YouTube video that heralded over 20 million hits, the Scottish street trials sensation Danny MacAskill is back with a new project, Way Back Home. The film follows Danny on a journey from Edinburgh back to his hometown of Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye.
Prepare to have your senses overloaded!
YouTube Star Danny MacAskill’s new Film ‘Way Back Home’ Now Live! Watch the sequel to the YouTube smash that heralded 21 million hits.
The wait is finally over! The new project that follows Danny ‘MegaSkill’ MacAskill’s Inspired Bicycles YouTube hit is now live.
In his new production, Danny turns his incredible riding style of trial bike, mountain bike and BMX-street from the urban streets of Edinburgh to a completely different landscape as he travels Way Back Home through the Scottish Highlands and craggy coastal descents all the way to his hometown of Dunvegan in the Isle of Skye.
Here’s the video so you can check out the awe-inspiring tricks for yourself:
Travelling with his close friend and filmmaker Dave Sowerby on a quest to seek out the most challenging riding spots along the way, Danny takes on ancient castles, leaps over rocky terrain and jumps onto and over bridges in the stunning wilderness of remote Scotland.
The journey culminates with a return to the stomping ground where Danny first cut his teeth riding in his hometown of Dunvegan – skipping past local B&Bs, jumping railings and even front flipping off a building as he finally arrives back home.
During a live Q&A session with fans Danny talked about some of the highlights making the film:
“My favourite spot in the riding clip is probably the bakery wall ride in my local village. I found it by walking out of the bakery with a big pasty! And then I saw the grass bank and the wall and thought I could maybe jump up there one day."
“One of the hardest tricks in the film was probably the front flip off Edinburgh Castle as it was blowing a force 10 hooly! It was also raining really heavily, if it wasn't for that it would have been easy...!”
Intrigued to find out how he pulls off his daredevil tricks? Check out all of Danny’s responses from the live Q&A session where he reveals just how he did it at www.redbull.co.uk/waybackhome.
Background-
It is hard to believe that it has been barely more than a year since Inspired Bicycles-Rider Danny posted a video on YouTube that was to change his life. Over night, the video got a few hundred thousand views and as of today has been watched well over 20 million times – the world went crazy for Danny. If you’ve lived under a rock and haven’t seen it yet or can’t get enough of it, you can watch it here:
Since the video went live, things progressed really fast – Danny found himself featured in the New York Times, was nominated for the Action Sportsperson of the Year Category of the Laureus World Sports Awards this year and has now finally found the time to start shooting a new video.
He is super stoked about the way things are going for him: “I still can’t believe the first video reached so many people that actually liked it and passed it on. I mean, even Lance Armstrong thought it was a must see! Now I get to make another, even crazier video and basically ride my bike as a job. It doesn’t get any better than this.”
ok well that kinda backfired didn't it ...
I didn't mean that he was wrong, but that so many people got mad when people compared this to bmxing on his last video
damn and we were all impressed with wypers front flip while Dannys over here frton flippin off all kinds a stuff. Wow, my jaw was dropped the entire video.
PLEASE make a full length film, 7 minutes 43 seconds is just not enough! just like the last one, i watched this 10+ times before finally reading the comments. It was just unreal! MIND IS BLOWN
he does things that parkour athletes wouldn't touch, and he does with a bike slung between his legs. come to think of it, i don't even know how he as room for the bike there with the size of those nuts.
well leech is more a technical trials rider he doesnt do as many big tricks... so most people have forgotten about him because they just want to see big tricks...
how will it get vod? its a video off the redbull site, someone would have to rip it off their site and upload it to pinkbike before it will get vod. duh.
I love it, Danny is the dude - the biking hero of our times. I like how the video plays like a 'see how scottish you are if you canname the places test.' He hops over the half-way bench at queensferry where I eat bannana's on a night ride so that is my claim to fame!
Great video but im sorry guys i have to say i prefered the orignal vid he did even if the riding in this one was better. This one had a lot of hype and god i see why but it just didnt have the same 'out of nowhere...ness' to it. Plus i prefered the song on the original. neg prop if you must but im entitled to an opinion.
yeah i fully agree, the video's amazing, one of my all time favourite's and ive watched it only, 3 times? but i prefered the first video sheerly because it was something that we hadent seen before and it came from, nowhere?
Don't forget what Clint Eastwood said about opinions!
For my part, I believe Mr MacAskill has progressed from the first video. It's the line choice. Just the sheer insanity of the line choice!!
The first video was a hit with everybody, your average family man that know's nothing about riding for example, therefore, in that aspect it did come from nowhere..
Im So proud he's from skye it was an amazing video with some of the most spectacular, amzing riding and stunning locations i've ever seen.huge respect to Danny for he's inspiring riding and every one who was involved in the making of this film.
I loved the "big ramp to phone booth" segment. How do you go from "What should we trick next?" to "Let's put a big ramp in front of random remote road phone booth and trick that". Genius!
amazing riding, so many WOAH moments Danny Mac is a legend,a god riding among mere mortals. But does anyone else think the filming was a little lazy? ( surely Red Bull gave them the budget to do pretty much whatever they needed) and I was really hoping for a beginning a middle and an end from a film with so much hype budget, time and energy devoted . I would bet a limb Danny didn't get everything first try and got beat up during it. I think they could have done justice to his skill, effort and the journey they went on in a slightly more rewarding way for the audience. I obviously didn't get bored and have watched it 3 or 4 times , but still I think they could have made something 20 minutes long, show Danny as a person and we would still watch it over and over again .
Just amazing, such riding + beautiful scenery! Really nice, dont know if it will have the wow factor the first one had simply because it wasnt on every day terrain, streets etc, stuff the general public could imagine someone doing. But non the less, RAD!
that is one of the best vid i have ever seen on this website ts so original and hes so good. im surprised nobody has come out with something like "omg hes a trials god he can even ride on water"
Sick, i've seen a lot of sh1t in my life and that was/is amazing. The line choices are something that we couldn't even imagine. Fantastic riding and doing the MTB scene a whole world of good by getting us infront of the masses. Well done Danny!
I agree with the line choices statement. I envy his endless terrain options. I see so many lines every day that I just don't have the balls or skill to try, and Mac is wallride to 360ing off historic landmarks.
total insanity. danny does those tricks like he doesn't even break a sweat. my fave trick would be the one he did on top of the RV, tip toeing over the edge and doing a tail whip to drop. absolutely creative and insane!
Amazing! I'd like to see what kind of crossover skill this guy has. With his bike control and technique I think watching him ride downhill or freeride would be incredible.
Or, alternatively if he doesn't want to ride anything like that take him to the shore and have Digger go crazy building all manner of insane things for him to ride.
I saw him at Glentress on a 6 Incher still attempting those fakie nose-manuals on the tabletops - and blasting new lines between unconnected trails. Really fast
It just seems incredible that watching his first vid, every single line and drop in this vid was as big as the final drop that had everyone talking on his first vid. Amazing, I salute you.
He is the sickest trials rider EVER! Such amazing tricks to pull off on a bike, and he makes them look effortless! And it seems he suffers no impact on 20+ ft drops, simply jaw dropping.
this is absolutely mind blowing, although there is one minor thing that lets this down, if you look closely, near the end he doesn't actually have his orange trials bike on the back of the motor home, it is a blue mountain bike, cant quite make out whether it is a hardtail or full sus, that one small thing was a bit of a let down, but still, an incredible rider, how id love to be able to ride like that.
Danny Macaskill, you have successfully INSPIRED me. And you are nonetheless the greatest inspiration to myself, and others. Great video. cant wait to see upcoming videos and perhaps a full length movie.
Well, that answers who's the world's best. All other sorts of riding must be sooooo boring to this guy. He has a gyroscope in his ears. Well, now I know I'm a giant wuss bag. I need everything perfect for a frickin five foot drop!!
Danny has balls of steel and the mind of a genius to see and ride where no one else does, the stuff he did on his 1st video in my opinion is better than Way Back Home but i really enjoyed WBH.
He is insane! Love the front flip where those people were watching him. The streets of London one is cool too. The control he has is unbelievable. And he does it all with zero suspension, just in the body. Hes not human...
I was eating while watching this vid, sometimes my jaw stopped moving...
This guy moves like he's connected through springs to his bike, amazing skillz!
Great! Once again you show what you can afford. Super film. Skills at a very high level. Congratulations on a great production and I look forward to the next. Bless man!
If anyone video's can beat this one - it's ONLY Danny Macaskill's next year !!!
Danny, man - my full respect, best regards and wishes of all the best in future goes to you !
That had to be the most uninteresting cinema I've ever gazed upon. I did not think it was possible for me to fall asleep in 2 minutes in the middle of the day at work. After I woke up, I watched it all the way through. I was hoping to see him beat at least one of Armstrong's best times, but he just COMPLETELY skips France! Oh, and not a single recumbent wheelie? I thought MacAskill was an innovator. A visionary. Well, APPARENTLY I thought wrong.
pedalkick to frontflip drop???WTF?
It just seems too perfect... Mac-a-skill?
just like the last one, i watched this 10+ times before finally reading the comments.
It was just unreal! MIND IS BLOWN
I think we all know thats a lie.
Did anyone else say, WTF, out loud on that first flip, and then get a wierd look from the other people in the room?
this video was amazing
video? Success.
Right, i'm off to paint my bike orange...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj6ho1-G6tw
probably the most talented rider in the world!!!
Amazing Vid can't wait for the next one
i think someone should probably let him know...
S-W-E-E-T
Well done Danny, more brilliance from you.
Whats the first song called?
I love it
danny you are a god
