7iDP's new Transition knee/shin guard provides a little more protection than the standard Transition pad. The CE Level 2 certified pads are priced at $109.99 USD.

Sea Otter 2021
Sea Otter 2021
7iDP also had their new lineup of gloves on display, which includes everything from minimal options to heavier duty models with protective padding over the knuckles.

Sea Otter 2021
New helmet colors to choose from for 2022.

Sea Otter 2021
Cane Creek's titanium eeWing cranks, just because.

Sea Otter 2021
Aenomaly had their SwitchGrade seatpost head on display. The clever device allows the seat angle to be changed on the fly to one of three positions, with a 10-degree difference between each one - tilt it down for more comfortable climbing, and up for descending.

Sea Otter 2021
Sea Otter 2021
The first batch already sold out, but pre-orders are currently being accepted for the next run that's expected to be available in November.

Sea Otter 2021
Funn's new Holeshot grips have a 31mm diameter and are available in a whole bunch of bright colors.

Sea Otter 2021
Sea Otter 2021
Granite Design had a see-through bar on display to show of their Stash System. A chain breaker goes in one side, a tire plug kit in the other...

Sea Otter 2021
And a multi-tool goes into the steerer tube.

Sea Otter 2021
Sea Otter 2021
Evoc's new Hydro Pro line of packs uses a vest type design with just enough room for water and the essentials. There are two versions, the 3L version shown here, and an even smaller 1.5L model. They're priced at $125 and $115 USD, respectively.

Sea Otter 2021
Two straps across the chest help keep it securely in place, and pockets on each strap add additional storage for a phone and snacks.
Sea Otter 2021
The pack holds a 1.5-liter bladder, with room for a lightweight windbreaker or jersey in the main compartment.

Sea Otter 2021
Stan's Crest, Arch, and Flow rims all received a new asymmetric shape earlier this year, which allows for a better bracing angle and nearly equal spoke tension between the drive and non-driveside spokes.

Sea Otter 2021
Rim strips, sealant, valve stems, and Stan's Dart tire plug system

Sea Otter 2021
The Propain Hugene has 29" wheels, 140mm of rear travel, and a 150mm fork. If all goes to plan, we should have one arriving soon for an upcoming Field Test.

Sea Otter 2021
Ion's Rascal Amp clipless shoes get new colors for next season.

Sea Otter 2021
The K-Pact knee pads come in basic black, but there are also options to add a little extra pop to your kit.

Sea Otter 2021
Ion's Hipbag Plus Traze 3 has a 2L bladder and room for a jacket, water, and tools.

Sea Otter 2021
This is the owner of Sage Titanium's personal dirt jumper, a one-off frame that he had built up to help pass the time during lockdown.

Sea Otter 2021
The paint job was chosen as a tribute to Eddie Van Halen - 'Might as Well Jump" is printed on the top tube.
Sea Otter 2021
There aren't any plans to start a line of ti dirt jumpers - this was a just for fun project. Plus, the number of people who would sign up to buy a $9,000 DJ bike is likely fairly low.

Love the Eddie Van Halen paint job!
Had a bike custom painted like it awhile back I’ve been waiting to post.
Seeing it on a DJ reminds me of the old Cannondale Aaron Chase frame I had that was VH. Anniversary of him was 2 days ago. What a great time to share some love for him.
Love seeing it!

I thought I remembered seeing Titanium Finishing Co. in PA did that scheme if I'm not mistaken, on Instagram. They've ano'd some ti springs for me before, super nice people and they're always doing cool shit with ti ano and cerakoting.

@Sweatypants: right on! That’s very cool. I’ll give em a search and see if I find it. I love anything VH! I had my frame painted full VH by Tec Gnar and it came out so sweet!

@Sweatypants: just found em. They are the ones that did the frame in this post here. So rad!

Loved the tribute too. I painted my motorcycle with the same eddy theme in the 90s .

Boy now that one bolt seatpost head designs are mostly a thing of the past Im having trouble getting my current post to creak every ride. I wonder if there is a product out there for me...

He needs the matching Paul component Van Halen stem on that bike if I ever saw a bike that needed it!

I would love to throw my leg over a Hugene, looks like a hella fun bike!

I'm curious to see how it compares to the Yeti frames. That lower link is long enough and in the right place to act somewhat similarly to the switchinfinity link on a Yeti, but I guess a lot will depend on the leverage ratios they used. If it works similarly, it could be a good substitute for the UK crowd who apparently destroy those little Yeti sliders in with their wet-weather riding.

It’s a fantastic bike. I got mine back in July (same spec as the one pictured except for the tyres) and I haven’t looked back.

@ODubhslaine: what kinda stuff are you riding it for? Dreamy looking bike
  • 2 0
@thompsy01: the usual Irish suspects - Djouce, Rostrevor, etc. it’s a godsend for the Rostrevor climb. I’m knocking on for 50 and climbing on that bike is a pleasure!

Im not a fan of jumps so I can’t talk about how it is in the air. It’s felt very capable on anything I’ve been down so far including the natural trails in the Dublin/Wicklow mountains as well as the trail centre stuff.

It’s my first 29er and I’m constantly asking myself why I didn’t switch years ago. The geo and the larger wheels inspire confidence and with the bigger fork up front I’m not as hesitant as I once was about ploughing through rather than around/over.

I’m a big fan.

@ODubhslaine: nice one! Looks like the perfect amount of travel for trails around here. Will eventually pull that trigger on hugene or tyee. Health to enjoy!

So, storing things in grips is super cool, but I have a lingering question about them.

Aren't most grips now single clamp only? Do people drill out/cut out the ends of their new grips to use these? Or are they mostly used by people with double clamp grips and traditional barplugs?
  • 2 1
I tried out the Granite Stash system, but ultimately gave up because of this. Cutting the ends off grips was annoying, and never looked very good once installed. Ended up with a OneUp pump/toolkit system, and its infinitely better.
And you can swap it between bikes easily.
  • 2 0
My grips are single clamp, but I need separate bar ends if I don't want to take a core sample. I'd get away with the 1 clamp grip and not cutting it open.
  • 3 1
Got them. They rattle like cazy so now I stash them in a dakine tube/pouch thingy.

Also the multitool is great but the client support is utter shit. Contacted them when a friend snapped a bolt on the tool and they asked me for my address to sent replacement then dead silence, 3 emails later still no reply idk why

I bought the head tube multi-tool for my long travel bike because the fork on that bike has a super short steerer and the Oneup EDC Lite requires at least 7.5 inches on Fox forks. I've got the EDC Lite on another bike and love it. The Granite Design tool seemed solid, but the bits themselves are super short and can't reach some tricky bolts. I returned it and bought a knockoff on Amazon of the All In tool that slides into the crank spindle and attaches with magical magnets. I haven't had to use it in anger yet, but it seems super solid for $29 USD.

I know its a tangent but I hate single clamps for the fact they tear open the first time you drop the bike in a crash. I use glue ons with bmx bar plugs now because of this.
  • 2 0
@Deoratwo: open ended single clamp lock on grip with bmx bar plugs is the way to do it.
  • 3 0
I use the Granite tyre plug tool with ODI AG1 grips. They're single clamp, but the tool comes with a cap for the end of your bar that fits inside them. It's worked/working fine for me. No rattles, no cutting grips, there when I need it.
  • 1 0
Had the same problem. But they also fit in shimano crank axles.
  • 2 0
Im the same as Clean - running both sides with Burgtec Minnaar grips. There's a small end cap the diameter of the bar in the pack - so they sit inside the grip, and you certainly don't have to modify them. No rattles for me, they're awesome

Van Halen paint on a hardtail, everyone loves it Van Halen prototype paint on intense, universal hate

The adjustable seat head is a good invention for dudes who suffer from frequent.. lets say.. torsion down there caused by seat angle during climbs. Its more common than people think.

Your name just made me lol

The only thing I really want out of all of that would be some clear handlebars! ;-)
  • 3 0
I'd buy one, but I want clear SPD jelly shoes to match.

If you ever need to warranty anything from Ion, best of luck. The worst company ever to deal with. They will not deal directly with a customer. I've emailed and sent itemized pictures to the retailer as well, who also says that Ion has not responded. Just a heads up

Those ION shoes look bad ass
  • 1 0
Was thinking the same. Not sure why but those look great
  • 2 0
I bought a set on a gamble, and they're by far my favorite bike shoe now (have used fiveten, scott, giro, pearl izumi and shimano before). Would highly recommend them.
  • 1 0
It's that seatbelt across the top for me. Love it.
  • 1 0
@ratedgg13: been eyeing these up myself; hows the fit, true to size??
  • 1 0
@likeittacky: Yeah. I have a wide ish foot with a poor arch, so I used a different footbed but otherwise sizing seems to be spot on.
  • 1 2
Actually, I was thinking those Rascal's at ION purchased my Grandpa's walking shoes from the thrift store and tried to Amp them up with an orange stripe.

Based on my experience with 7idp Sam Hill padsI'd buy more stuff from them. Interested to see the rest of the glove lineup but they don't seem to be online yet
  • 2 0
I see them on their website. 7idp.com/collections/gloves

@Jayschipp: apparently I was looking at the old/UK website. Thanks!

I thought that Evoc pack was a sick denim vest hydration pack..
  • 2 0
That denim looking bladder pack needs some Kreator patches stitched on there…
  • 2 0
haha - totally - I'm really surprised they didn't designate an area for patches, include a couple pins and studs and call it the "Battle Jacket"
  • 1 0
set me up with that Evoc sports bra please, in case my man boobs get a little jiggly.
  • 1 1
There's already Salomon ones....I wonder if there'll be a tete-a-tete in the courts about infringement one day soon....
  • 1 0
Does that propain have a 90 degree seat tube angle. Kidding aside looks steep AF and i like it.
  • 1 0
that propain competing with the grim donut for steepest seat tube angle...
  • 3 0
Don't forget that the front wheel is lower than the back due to the design of that display stand - that makes it look extra steep.
  • 1 0
That eensy-weensy seat really puts the pain in Propain.
  • 1 0
hey, gimme one of those hugenes
