Rowdy, loose, and perfectly British! Watch Joe Smith get wild in Wales and slap his rear wheel through vegetation in the latest edit by Deity, The Outlaw.

What are Joe's top picks to outfit his Norco Factory Racing trail bike? The Blacklabel 800 handlebar, Copperhead stem, Waypoint grips, and Speedtrap saddle.

I shure hope annie is ok.

The Germans got her, side note - she's NOT ok

The first time I heard this cover, I thought Alien Ant Farm changed ok to ugly
  • + 36
Millions of those "don't ride trails in the wet because it hurts them" type people just cringed for 4 minutes straight watching this.
  • + 45
 Yeah but Wales.
  • + 96
I saw a dry trail in the UK once a few years back. It was mesmerising.
  • + 20
Does not really apply to the UK, where its wet all year round.
  • + 7
 Those definitely aren't IMBA trails.
  • + 10
@it's a way different kinda wet though. Lived in pnw and the U.K is worse for sure
  • + 12
@lostlunchbox: the difference is no one really cares if its wet in wales, we just get on with riding. in fact lots of trails improve through being ridden in the wet, blows of all the mulshy black topsoil and gets down to firmer stuff.
  • + 5
 @b45her: + ruts
  • - 3
@lostlunchbox: Thanks for that. There's huge amounts of regional variation, so not sure what you're driving at...by the numbers it looks at least twice as sensible to ride in Wales as in N. Vancouver. Trail in video is not wet, and the gentleman glides more than slashes. You've heard of open pit & mountaintop removal mining, right? Find a bigger problem?
  • + 7
@DJ-24: Not too sure what imba is but deffo sure it aint a thing in the uk
  • + 6
@lostlunchbox: i live in the western highlands where the everage rainfall hits 4,577 mm (180.2 in), am i allowed to ride wet trails?
  • + 4
@lostlunchbox: Err yeah, but a s**t load of your precip is snow, ours isn't.... And the UK average is very different to the regional i.e. we have a north wet coast too! Wink
  • + 1
@PhilLedgard: Luckily, it's mostly rain! Which means year-round schralpage if you pick the right trailsSmile
  • + 22
I made a video of me riding bikes on low angle trails where I hacked my way through the trails and brake slid everywhere with Alien Ant Farm bumping in the background in 2002 and I don't remember recieving even one offer to be sponsored.... Total bullshit.... Lol Wink

But for cereal, great edit! Was a ton of fun to watch!
  • + 24
I think this is actually the same five seconds of video edited into a 4-minute loop.
  • + 14
 Tokyo drift!!!!
  • + 18
Tokyo looks different to how I imagined.
  • + 6
@bigtim: they shot it in Vancouver as there's a lot of tax breaks for shooting films here... Lol
  • + 12
@2bigwheels: good thing (for this guy) they don't tax brakes...
  • + 11
why is everybody in such a mad rush??

I live in Squamish, and have some of the best trails outside my door. These edits out of the UK of guys railing corners all day really makes me want to ride there. Almost more than anywhere. You guys need to promote this shit for tourism! Show me the corner slapping trails!
  • + 4
This comment both surprises and intrigues. In what way are these trails appealing over whats in Squamish/BC?
  • + 18
@kiksy: I presume because in the UK we put roughly 4000 corners in each track to make the most out of our tiny hills!
  • + 3
 @sicmoto: Yeah you nailed it.
  • + 1
because the trails is squamish are not what they are hyped up to be. think of supped up trail centre. not that special. however just up the road in whistler and pemberton is world class, game changing, savage gnar type of goodness.
  • + 4
@DJTC: would beg to differ there. You obviously chose poorly if you had a bad time in Squamish. What I was getting at was the unique riding / trail style in the UK has something going for it. You build some amazing looking trails / corners with limited vert. Looks fun as hell
  • + 2
@james529529: yeah fair enough. i havnt ridden much there yet. i enjoyed what i rode just didnt find it as rugged and gnarly as whistler. will be doing some more in the spring. the uk certainly has a unique scene. the trails like this are super fun, you just have to know where they are. all the official stuff is a bit dull.
  • + 8
Dunno what’s going on with all the negativity but I reckon you smashed it again @caldwellvisuals

Always good to see some Caldwell every now and then.

I remember when I used to skid my bike, it was so cool, I would rip in with my coaster brake and skid in the gravel to impress my friends. Then I grew up, turned 8 and started jumping.
  • + 21
Like High Jump? Or Long Jump?
  • + 21
@2bigwheels: my bike, I would hop over it and get weird looks from my buddies who thought you should stay on the bike when jumping, morons.
  • + 5
Well I wasn't sure if I should buy a deity saddle but this definitely convinced me
  • + 12
for sure. deity makes great skidding saddles
  • + 3
 Saddle skids lulz
  • + 1
You need a good saddle to be a proper outlaw like the video.
  • + 6
nose bonk on the stump was tits
  • + 6
This is what happens when you have Code brakes. Full power or no power
  • + 6
No, those are saints you are speaking of
  • + 4
@vtracer: Saint/Zee brakes pretty much have an on/off switch but somehow it works for me.
  • + 13
Bernard Kerr disproved the Saints being a switch argument.
  • + 2
And a norco that loves to be steered from the rear!
  • + 3
Tried a Range with the Codes yesterday. I can confirm that they are way more on/off that Saints. But they were very powerful. They also 'turkey gobbled' and they constantly rub the rotors.
The Guides have similar traits, but more modulation and way less power.

Love seeing an orange getting loose

that's everything my local trail crew tells me not to do to the trails

Hey Deity - still no UK distributer?
  • + 8
We are still on the hunt for a UK distributor! People are dying for our gear to be available there, so we hope we find a proper option that fits our philosophies and can do a kickass job!
  • + 1
Until a UK distributor is confirmed, you can always get items here:

The pace of this riding, moisture, thin greasy soil with hardpan underneath, and lack of berms, neccessitates most of the sliding and the skidding is to set up positionally. But really what do these guys do ride a trail a bit then move? on cause what do these trails look like after a while? Tell me kiksy. I mean I don't really see a solution just curious. Leave them for a few years then come back?
  • + 6
@jonser I'm really interested in the North American view on all this. It seems like quite a few people have very different attitudes to erosion and wear. I can only give my own opinion, and I'm sure some people in the UK disagree, but I'll try and answer your questions.

Although it gets said a lot on here, it's wet and muddy for a large chunk of the year. This Deity video looks like it was filmed over the summer, rather than in the winter when it gets proper muddy. Why would people need to move on or come back a few years later? Skidding and riding in the mud doesn't make a trail disappear? Quite often it just adds to the character and natural evolution of the trail.

My local trails have been around for 20 years, and they get very very little maintenance, there is no group of people that maintain them. They get ridden all year in all conditions and they still ride fine. The roots just get more uncovered and the ruts get bigger. Win win.

To answer what a lot of trails look like in the winter here, see: vimeo.com/154969675

I don't think there is a solution, because there isn't really a problem.

Interested in yours and others opinion on all this.

  • + 2
Joe’s hips don’t lie ‘round those corners...
  • + 2
Best shot is at 1:19 with the cameo of the camera guy's shadow
  • + 1
He must be riding insane high rear tire pressure in the first segment to be drifting that way.
  • + 2
Anyone know where these trails are?
  • + 2
A man who likes his fun-brake.
  • + 3
 Proper shredding
  • + 2

 Joe is a bad mofo.
