Press Release: Canadian Rockies 24

Canadian Rockies 24 is excited to bring 24 HR mountain bike racing back to Canmore Alberta at the World famous Nordic Centre.

Co-organizer and current 24HR World Champion, Cory Wallace, has this to say about the race. "We are excited to be bringing a World-Class 24HR race back to Canmore. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned pro we believe a great time will be had by all as it is tough to beat the trails and setting which we have in Canmore. My organizing partner, Leighton Poidevin and I are bringing years of racing experience from around the globe to build this event. Although the focus will be around having fun and a great atmosphere to help grow the grassroots side of racing, we also plan to make it the go-to event for the more serious 24hr riders who want to push themselves to the limit."

The race will consist of both team and solo categories on a looped course of 15-16 km in distance, containing many of the classic trails at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Riders can expect a festival-like atmosphere over the weekend of bike racing, camping and hanging out under the mighty Rockies.

The inaugural Canadian Rockies 24 will take place August 27-28, 2022.

I don't mind seeing the steep entry fees as long as they get distributed properly. Yes the event should profit from this and there should be great prizes for the riders but part of the entry fee should go towards fixing these great trails. In the past, this event has been notorious for bringing a seasons worth of abuse in one weekend and no money was redistributed towards trail maintenance.

@gatogordo2: Actually, I have done this event in the past. It rained all weekend and left the Nordic centre completely destroyed. These are actually my local trails so it’s sad to see the change.

Hey @Kisersoze, part of the entry fee does go towards trail maintenance. To rent the Canmore Nordic centre for the event it costs upwards around $35,000 - that's the Nordic Centre rental fee, which includes trail maintenance and restoration. It's provincial park so they get plenty of grant money that goes toward trail maintenance as well.
Keep in mind the Nordic Centre was build host events.

Considering the entry fees for the previous Canmore 24 hour race got incredibly steep toward the end of it's run, I was expecting the price to be much higher.
