PRESS RELEASE: Coaster50 XCM Race

The Coaster50 Cross Country Marathon mountain bike race is celebrating 20 years of cross country racing on the Sunshine Coast. From 1999 to 2009, the Rat Race started the racing tradition with Rod and Tanya leading the helm. Then in 2009, Sue took over the race and renamed the race as the Sunshine Coaster. Now the Coaster50, we celebrate the tradition giving the best, flowy and most fun that our trails have to offer. On May 4th, 2019 the Coaster50 will go back to a shorter format with less road and more singletrack. Yes, it is a little shorter, but we guarantee that our course will have hard climbs, exhilarating downhills and most of all, good old-fashioned XC trail riding. This course won’t be easy and rest assured, you will be challenged, so save the date and register online. This is a sanctioned Cycling BC - BC Cup race and round number one in the Cycling BC XCM race series.

Prizes:
Offering cash prizes for the top 3 finishers, both male and female, in the marathon race, there's also a cash prize for the first male and first female to reach the top of the 2km climb. This is open to the contestants of both races. Our single speed category winner will be rewarded with a FSA SL-K-392 EVO Modular carbon crank too - if they can ride the long course in one gear!

Boreale Biking is again offering two 3-day all-inclusive packages at their beautiful lodge in the Yukon. If you haven't ridden up there yet, you're missing out on some great alpine single track. These prizes will be drawn from all registrations but you must be on site to accept your prize.

Sixth Element Wheels, a new company building carbon wheels from Whistler is offering some awesome product giveaways

Full Speed Ahead, providing world-class bicycle components for road cycling and mountain biking is offering a Flowtron Seatpost, SL-K-392 EVO Modular carbon crank, a FSA bike kit, and for every racer, 30% off coupon on any product on their direct to consumer website.

Sunshine Coast Community Forests will again be parking a fully loaded logging truck at our race base and will offer a swag package to the person guessing the value of the load.

Stick around to cheer on the racers and enjoy our barbeque lunch and a special cask from Tapworks Brewery - Coaster Pale Ale - specially made for us mountain bikers! As well, we will draw names from our registration list for prizes donated by our local merchants during the race.

And finally, stick around on Sunday to use up the discounted ticket given to all racers at registration to our world-class local bike park, Coast Gravity Park.
