Devinci Bikes - 100% Canadian - Day 1

Oct 21, 2008
by Tyler Maine
This week we’ll be spending some time in La Belle Province De Quebec visiting with Devinci Bikes. We’ll be going to Bromont to ride the bike park with numerous staff members for the last chair lift day of the season. Then we’ll make the pilgrimage from Bromont to Chicoutimi some 5 hours away to tour the Devinci factory where we’ll bring you all the details on their 2009 line up and the manufacturing facility where they make their bikes. First we just need to get from Vancouver to Montreal, Quebec.

Check out the trip there inside,

My alarm went off at 4:30AM and I hit the snooze button a few times and then I realized I actually had to get the heck out of bed and meet Ambrose in an hour in Abbotsford so that we could catch our 8:30AM flight out of Vancouver to Montreal. I haven’t been to Montreal since I was in grade 7, so I was stoked to head east for the late fall trip and do some riding with the crew that makes Devinci bikes. Ambrose will be capturing the whole trip on video while I bring you all up to speed with my key board and camera.

Me talking about what we're going to be doing in Quebec with Devinci Bikes:

Just under 5 hours on the plane from Vancouver to Montreal isn't a long way to travel, but for me it was enough to make me restless with a slight case of A.D.D. Thankfully they have power sources in the seat head rests and I could watch my own movies and then tune in for a movie on their supplied screens. Here is Ambrose enjoying Indiana Jones III (ok the show sucks but it was on the free list).

About all I saw for about 5 hours:

Maxime Lamirande from Devinci Bikes was there to pick us up when we landed at 4:30PM Since the day was pretty shot for mid day adventures we all went and grabbed dinner and then headed down to the Bell Center to see if we could get our hands on some tickets for the Montreal and Pheonix game. We got there about 10 mins after the game started and tickets had long sold out. Ticket scalpers were there, but wow that is a sport in itself and there was no way we were paying $150+ each to go in and watch it. So the three of us headed next door to Le Cage aux Sports to watch the game on the multitude of TVs they had in their 2 story sports bar. These people are stoked on their hockey is all I can say.

Ok so we couldn't get tickets to the Montreal and Pheonix game but the Sports Bar next door was two stories high and packed:

Once we left Montreal, we were bound for Ski Bromont where we'll be meeting up with numerous Devinci staff members for a day of fall riding. Bromont is located a little over an hour outside of Montreal and offers great lift access riding by all the accounts I've been told from friends that have previously visited this season. This would be both Ambrose and I's first visit to the resort and we were stoked that we'd be riding there. Maxime got us to the resort safely, but really late that night, so we were introduced and everyone chatted it up excitedly about the coming day on the hill. In no time it was even later and we all realized that in order to ride we'd need some sleep. Sweet dreams of eastern trails in the fall awaited all our sleeps.

Thanks for checking in and in the coming days I'll have tales from our day at Bromont riding with the Devinci staffers, touring the factory, riding XC in Chicoutimi, trying to weld and paint as well as a look at the 2009 Devinci Bike line up of DH, Freeride, All Mountain and DJ bikes. Stay tuned for more pics, videos and words.

Hey, I was there on Sunday too! great conditions... let us know what you think of the East Coast gnarl. It's too bad the World Cup course was closed (but maybe you scored some shuttles around the mountain)... Have fun in Chicoutimi, and be sure to check out the Montreal "scenery"... they sure got talent in that town...

World cup course was not closed , the lifts on that side of the mount were.
but you could still have linked the top part (it's the best part) to the new super cool fast and smooth "Cowansville" track that would have got you back in the front side where the lifts were opened.
anyway , nice to see Pinkbike in Bromont ,
you guys waited tho , ...come on , last day of the season ? , you have to come back.
Bromont is a wicked nice place to ride.

As usual, Leafs fall in autumn.

To bad Bromont closes their high speed quads for the last weekend, I never figured out why they do that since it is one of the busiest of the year?

I saw this group riding on Sunday I think. The neon orange Devinci jerseys gave them away. Some of them had the privilege of watching me blow the rebound on my Float 36 Frown
