Devinci Says Farewell to Damien Oton

Dec 20, 2019
by James Smurthwaite
The always consistent Damien Oton would hold on to 3rd on day two.

Devinci has today bid farewell to two-time EWS race winner Damien Oton.

Oton has been part of the Devinci set up since 2014, when he set aside his life as a plumber to race enduro full time. Since then he has enjoyed success in the EWS, most notably as runner up in the series overall in 2014, 2016 and 2018. He has won multiple Megavalanche events, including winning the Megavalanche Saint Paul in Reunion Island earlier this month.

bigquotesIt’s been six amazing years with you guys! If I am here today, it’s in part because of you! I want to thank everyone at Devinci for all these great moments that I will never forget.Damien Oton

bigquotesDamien has stirred up a lot of emotion! Great victories, enormous challenges, heartbreaking injuries… It has been a privilege to work with such a professional athlete, demanding of himself and of the bikes. For bike lovers like us, this type of feedback is extremely valuable and Damien’s contribution is undeniable,David Régnier-Bourque, Devinci’s Sales and Marketing Director

When we last spoke to Damien he told us he was picking between a few options for a new team. We'll update you with Damien's finalised plans for 2020 and beyond as soon as we know.

That is a messed up photo. People at top not leaning, people at the bottom are leaning. Getting dizzy just looking at it.
Vertical should be vertical, right??

Makes you think how steep that section must actually be
  • 2 1
steep that is almost a wall ride. Lol.

Horrible picture, camera not held level, not corrected for the wide angle lens distortion, really hard to look at.
  • 2 1
 Its really trippy

They're all just practicing their Micheal Jackson impressions

here I just tried fixing the distorted pic but it copyrighted, its only for my personal verification how steep it is. Lol.

  • 1 1
 Nah, teamchanges as usual.
  • 2 0

Good luck for next season Damien cant wait to see you back properly!

Damien and Florian are headed to the 2020 Schwinn Homegrown Enduro Team.
  • 6 1
Damien is a beast, hard to replace a rider like him. Who will devinci replace him with?
  • 30 2
I hear Randy is looking for a 2020 ride
  • 15 3
@Bones695: Randy doesn't look for rides, rides look for Randy.
  • 2 1
This is the second "(brand here) says goodbye to.." post; the other "Scott says goodbye to Vink" - clearly putting brand$$ before rider when it comes to who makes the decisions in their careers. The context is, neither brand said goodbye to the rider, the rider said goodbye to them. Let's not make it seem like the brand is the one calling the shots.
  • 2 0
Let's start the guessing game. Where will Damien go for next EWS season? Cannondale just said goodbye to Jerome Clementz. Just sayin'...
  • 1 0
Nope. Some little birds are saying his next bike brand will be nearer from his roots than DeVinci.
  • 2 0
@Balgaroth: Une marque 100 % française, donc ? Connue ou plutôt « niche » ? We want to know, now... Wink
  • 2 0
@Balgaroth: the brand I'm named after or Caminade then. Keeping it local for real!
  • 5 0
Heard rumors or him joining orbea, replacing Tlap
  • 2 1
@Maxcommencemal: one of my guess, but isn't it a bit expensive for them? Maybe possible with a bigger (global) brand as co-sponsor...
  • 1 1
@Maxcommencemal: Andorra is very close too Wink
  • 1 0
@SMASH3D: I doubt it as orbea aren't supporting their riders for all EWS races next year, only Europe.
  • 1 0
@wardy1311: sad for a brand like orbea
  • 1 0
@Maxcommencemal: even Germany would be nearer from his roots that Canada wouldn't it ? Wink
  • 1 0
@cool3: sure he call himself the "catalan eagle" so not that french afterall.
  • 1 0
@Clem-mk: dammit. I forgot the other 2 brands!
So do we add Forestal and Production Privée to the shortlist?
  • 1 0
Oh really?
"Can" I have another guess?
  • 2 0
 ill go with orbea...
  • 1 0
@Maxcommencemal: hum as small as caminade (even smaller?) Orbea could be realistic if Tlap goes elsewhere. Orbea is my last word!
  • 2 0
@Maxcommencemal: feel free to do so afterall we french people are sill in a democratie where freedom of speach is allowed so guess away 3
  • 1 0
 Orbea ? . . . :-/
  • 5 1
Why is everyone doing the Michael Jackson dance in that photo?

Apparently they’re all so depressed from manufacturers forcing them to promote eBikes that they’re moving over to the exciting world of Speed Golf.

@jclnv: hey at least you tried.

 @COnovicerider: Speed Golf?

I understand Mister Oton. If he waited as long as I do for a bike. Then I understand 100%. I did an order of a Devinci Troy in Europe. I waited for 2 months before I got my bike. And I was not helped at Devinci. They said many things that are not true about the bike and his location. But I also think It's gonna be Canyon. They have very good bikes. I think Oton gonna do the same then before. Winning
  • 2 0
I’m sure Oton never had to wait to get his bikes from Devinci. Lol. From my experiences, Devinci have one of the best customer service. My Troy 2019 was my all time favourite bike from them... Troy 2020 is on it’s way!
  • 1 2
@math679: I have the opposite. They don't answer anymore. They never said sorry for the delay. The only thing I needed was just a sorry for the problem. Nothing more. This is my last Devinci ever. Maybe for Europe they have other people. But for me this is the end for Devinci. I agree the troy is a good bike, like many other bikes. For me the magic from Devinci is gone. But still a Steve Smith fan. My bike is not even build up and I already wanna sell him. If I could turn back time I stayed with my old Troy and still have a nice imagefrom Devinci.

@math679: Oh btw, I received my bike today. After almost 2 months. Frame was not good, on the head tube there was some paint missing. I found a paper that this already mentioned. The paper was wrapped around the frame. So they sended a frame knowing that the frame was not good. The rims have scratches. I can understand that something is wrong. But this is too much. With the order everything was wrong, now this. And now they are closed till 7th of january. I must be lucky. And still they said no sorry. I don't know what you think about it , but for me Devinci is a big joke. I'm curious how they gonna solve all of this. Now I let them choose how to fix this. I gonna be more disappointed if they just send me another frame. I asked a compensation. Never ever a Devinci for me !!!!!
