Watch the LIVE action from the Crankworx Rotorua Downhill.
Sunday March 25th – 10 am NZDT
Saturday March 24th – 2 pm PDT
Saturday March 24th – 10 pm CET
From the organizers:
| Guns blazing, laser-focused, full-throttle on the adrenaline. Skill triumphs over gravity in this race down Mount Ngongotaha. Riders will catch one last look at Lake Rotorua then drop into a technical quagmire of smooth off-camber hardpack broken up by step-ups, bridge-drops and a rock garden to keep the race interesting. The course culminates over the Skyline Rotorua Gravity Park’s summer luge course with racers flying into a crowd-pleasing step-up, step-down, table combo demanding monster air. The challenge? Finish in under three minutes. |

What?
All out of laser focus too, and my guns are not exactly blazing.
But actual race runs (in this case) were taking over 3 minutes.
So when you saw Sik Mik cross the finish line, do a little celebration and short interview, Blenki was ALREADY on course (probably over 1/4 of the way down).
When they go back up to the top and watch Blenki leave the start hut after Sik Mik, it is a recording of what has already happened, and then they catch up with him live in the middle of the course, where ever he happens to be.
It would be completely impractical for them to drag cameras and cables up through that entire muddy forest to film every inch of the race track... And even if they DID do that... It would still be physically impossible to see full runs due to the timing.
"Well the most pivotal part of the course will likely be the larches, especially now that it's raining. It'll be where all the best saves and all the gnarliest crashes happen."
"Great insight. Go ahead and put them at the start, the finish, and then a couple of bike park features that the pros will just sail over. Fans love gaps and rock gardens and they definitely never see that shit at home."
edit: really shite commentary tbh, hadn't even realised Seagrave was the last out of the box by the time she'd crossed the line.
