The 2018 Downmall Tour enters its 9th year at shopping malls across Eastern Europe. This year the Downmall Tour takes place at 4 different locations, the first stop at Blautal Center in Ulm, Germany happened last weekend.

Next weekend, the series moves on to Essen in Germany, where last year's round was cancelled because of safety concerns. After that, the riders travel to Budapest in Hungary and Praha in the Czech Republic.

Unfortunately, for the first round in Ulm, many of the best riders of last year's series, like Johannes Fischbach and Tomas Slavik, weren't able to attend because they were racing in Valparaíso in Chile at the urban downhill race.

The Blautal-Center is a small shopping mall in Ulm.
The trophies - who will win the series this year?

The riders use a wax spray to get more grip on the slippery floor.

The Races are like a big party with a lot of spectators and a DJ who hypes up the crowd.

Between the races, there was a Freestyle Contest.

Tomas Zejda with a tailwhip.

The 30-second long track uses a step down to take riders from the first floor to the ground floor, which the freestylers used for their own show.

Florian Werres is always happy when he is riding. The Track starts with a short straight over a bridge...

...Which is followed by the stairs onto the first floor. Erik Emmrich the German junior 4x champion is followed by Willy Muller in practice.

Erik Emmrich hit a small stone and ripped his tyre off the rim.

Ben Moore, the winner from the last round in Frankfurt is spraying glue on his tyres.
He was a big favourite for the win.

Gustaw Dadela.

Daniel Kowalski on the first jump.

Ondrej Bene.

Noel Niederberger, the World Cup rider from NS-Factory, won with a single speed bike.

Noel Niederberger was the man of the day, winning all three runs.

I don't know about DH, but proofreading is definitely dead.

That (s)mall stone was no doubt strategically placed by organizers to keep these MTB riders honest (not to mention to justify the odd FS rig).

More like Stan's rim +tubeless setup +high pressure +spray-on glue = rolled tire. No imaginary stones necessary.

Anybody has seen out there a video of this venue? , Thanks.

I learnt two things from this, German shopping malls look exactly the same as New Zealand shopping malls. Secondly is Vodafone Germany as shit as New Zealand Vodafone, what with their consistent over billing and not-so-great network?!
