Video: Amazing Drone Angles & Awesome Riding With Kilian Bron

Oct 22, 2018
by Cédric Carrez

We recently saw some original edits, using racing drones and 360 cameras. We become tired to always see the same things but those new systems push our creativity and motivate our outdoor scene to innovate.

It's interesting to ask yourself a few questions: What can we do differently? What's next?

We want to find a new way to produce, we can imagine a lot of different shots but the key is to always to try new things and why not creating new tools!

We spoke about video production but creativity is also through scenarios and original spots to ride. By combining inedit views, original spots, storylines and symbiosis between people, that will be for sure an amazing story to share. And this is the next step Wink

For this edit, we used three different systems. Are you able to recognize each one, depending on the shot?

The first one is the same I used for a last social edit, riding the steep lines of the Farwell Canyon – Canada. A POV view from behind, using my GoPro FUSION and a mount on my helmet.

The second one is a classic GoPro Hero 6 put on a FPV drone.

And the last one, our new custom FPV drone with a GoPro Fusion – by Cinematicflow.

“We designed and refined FPV drones since 5 years now. When Kilian spoke about his idea of putting a GoPro Fusion on one of our drones, we were intrigued but thrilled about this new challenge. The design and the flying of this set up are so different than what we are used to, there were loads of crashes but the end result is so refreshing and pushes the drone shot to the next level.” Pierre, engineer at Cinematic Flow

“This new tool give us a new opportunity to tell a story, a way to include viewers into the action. It’s raw, dynamic and reminds me to create without boundaries. As a filmmaker, it gives me the chance to combine the voice of three different people in a unique piece of content that stands out.” Florent, filmmaker/director at Cinematic Flow

I'm lucky to be back at home in Autumn, around the amazing Massif du Beaufortain in Savoy, France and in the forest around my hometown of Annecy. What an amazing view from the ridge, surrounding by the unfamous Mont-Blanc and other crazy summits. This is where I get the more creative and pumped to produce more content.

I want you to speak about your spot, if you have the opportunity, grab a camera, a friend and try new things together. For all of you out there, tell us your story, our community. We can't wait to see your next video productions!

Will be a real game changer for the EWS! Imagine the top five or ten riders having dedicated drones each run.

@miles-e: this will be awesome! I think it will help a lot with the "camera flattens out all the tracks" issue too.

Video is great but why put tampon commercial music over it?

Ha! Danny MacAskill used a Jezebels song on his "Way Back Home" video.

Wow. That open ridge trail was one of the coolest segments I’ve ever seen in 25 years of watching mtb videos. Nice work guys.

Bloody drone drivers, tearing up our air, making a nuisance buzzing away, basically cheating

absolutely killer POV footage! I'd love to see a full length movie filmed this way. only criticism for the photographer is to PLEASE never, ever, ever again use those cheesy filters that turn greens brown and make blue skies look teal. Leave that garbage to the instagram wedding photographers that copy every trend that comes their way. Keep it real.

"what can we do differently? What's next?"
*Throws a teal and orange filter on every subsequent image

Incredibly unique and spectacular video though! I was extremely impressed by the creativity in every part of it. Amazing job!

Nice. Beaufortain is such an incredible place to ride, even more at this period of the year (maybe not for the hunters...)

What a hard work it was ,but the result was just fabulous,to you all I clap my hands standing up ,like someone says ,JOB WELL DONE.

Fantastic video. Really impressive. Gives a better feel of the trail and the ride. Obviously, the amount of savings from not wearing off front tires paid for the drone. Hope you inspire some more people.

Yep was going to say the same, our lives will eventually become one long editable movie with a personal mini fly drone over our shoulder. Kind of Cool , kind of Orwellian...

Not for me. My riding is so boring, I don't even want to watch it over.

UCI Downhill take notice. How about a drone angle or 2 for the TV broadcast?

"We become tired to always see the same things..."

I'm not going to downplay the phenomenon that people can actually become tired watching video. But the solution isn't necessarily watching moar video. There are alternatives. You can go outside, maybe try riding bikes. Could be fun. Just give it a shot.

What's tired is comments like yours. We ride, but not 20 hours a day. Watching vids are awesome and this one rocked.

@mayha49: I didn't say anywhere that there is no joy in watching mtb videos nor did I say this one wasn't well executed. What I said is what you read. If you actually grow tired of watching videos you probably just have had enough. If you also grow tired of being told you're watching too many videos as you say then there may be some truth in that, don't you think?

Please tell me the drone doesn't die at the end!
  • 2 0
I would get one, but I know I would crash 10 drones before I got anything that looked decent. Lol.

The drone flybys with the quick camera angle change are a little jarring to watch, but otherwise amazing stuff!
