You Asked, We Listened - Earn Your Chance to Whip It With the Pros during Crankworx Whistler

Jul 17, 2014
by Official Crankworx
Crankworx and the Whistler Mountain Bike Park are inviting aspiring riders to Whip It and show their stuff for the chance to compete in the Official Whip-Off World Championships on Thursday, August 14.

By popular demand, the Whip It event will be moving closer to all the action - originally scheduled for Saturday, July 19, this event will now take place during the Crankworx Whistler festivities on Monday, August 11. The change will allow more whip-thirsty athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills.

All the Whip It action will go live on Crabapple hits at 4 p.m. on August 11. The top five riders will win a spot to compete at this year's invitational Official Whip-Off World Championshop on August 14 alongside the all-stars of the mountain biking world, including 2013 winner Bernardo Cruz, Brendan Fairclough, Eliot Jackson, Bernard Kerr, Graham Agassiz, Tyler McCaul, Danny Hart and Thomas Vanderham.

The format for Whip It will be a controlled jam - riders will hit the first four hits of Crabapple hits, with judges scrutinizing and scoring the final hit.

Pre-registration will be available online until August 10. The registration fee is $10. Riders can also register from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on August 11 at the Crankworx Athlete Centre in the Aava Whistler Hotel. Pre-registration is mandatory.

Full schedule, rules and registration will be made available closer to the date on the Events page at http://bike.whistlerblackcomb.com/.

What a way to ruin one of the fun events of Crankworx... Being the worlds biggest bike festival there should atleast be 1 event open for riders to have a jam with their idols and just have some fun. Last years whip off was an awesome way to just have a big jam session on Crabapple hits and everyone loved it. Style and whips are supposed to be about fun and expression, not dropping in to a line of judges telling you if you're good enough or not.. Last years judging was a shambles full of biased opinions with lots of people throwing down whips getting kicked out and straight airs running through the whole way. A Rider Judged, Jam format, open to a number of riders, not only pros, would be far more fair and far more interesting to watch. It's not only pros who do whips on bikes.
