The Canada Cup Downhill Circus came back to Ontario for the first time in nearly two decades this past weekend, and Blue Mountain's Trail Crew delivered a course that did not disappoint - unless you showed up with your trail bike hoping this race was going to be a mellow break between the stops in Canada's more mountainous regions.

 All a weekend of racing condensed into 10 minutes without any commentary nor music, still better than crankworx DH.

 I find it odd that it's call the East Coast Open as its about the same straight line distance from Blue Mountain to Saint John, NB as it is from Vancouver to the Alberta/Sask. border. I don't think anyone would call the edge of Sask.the west coast but maybe that's just me.

 Calling Ontario 'East Coast' is absolutely ridiculous. It's not East nor is it Coast. PEI/NS/NS/NL/LAB people would be absolutely pissed to read this. Heck, Albertains don't call themselves 'West Coast' (it's prairies), and even people within BC refer to themselves as 'interior'. Open an Atlas will 'ya. @h82crash - nice geo. stat

 Cheers. It was a pretty technical endeavor figuring that out - I held a small pocket tape measure up to the google maps screen. That stat is accurate to about a 1/16 of an inch.

 @h82crash: Hah! Classic.

 @h82crash Ontario is definitely not East Coast, it is Central. However, as the world of MTB revolves on most things West Coast... Really anything past Alberta is East and in translation refers to a smaller demographic that are "less privileged" in terrain. Can confirm, Ontario extract to BC. Nice to see the trail work on Blue though, haven't been there in years.

 Call it the south coast. Of Georgian Bay.

 It's an Ontario thing.

Most people who live there, especially those in Southern Ontario (GTA, really) think they are from the East and when you travel outside of Ontario in a westerly direction, you Go Out West. If you drive from your house in Markham a couple hours north to the Muskokas, it's considered Heading Up North.

All in all, it's pretty funny, but that's Ontario's "centre of the universe" mentality for you. And I say this as a person who grew up there, but now lives far, far away.

 @cwatt: ** Checks Pinkbike Forums > Canada > Canada - East > "Regional forum for Ontario, Quebec" **

In all seriousness though, you'd have to ask @sirbikealot for the reasoning behind the "East Coast" title since they originally founded the event in 2010 and coined the name. When Blue Mountain took over the running of the event in 2012 it made more sense to keep the name since people were already familiar with it, rather than rebranding it and losing the name recognition.

 @gdharries: I have to disagree. I've been in southern Ontario my whole life and never really met anyone that referred to it as eastern Canada. Sure you say your going out west if you go to BC or Alberta but we also say we're going out east if your going to NB, NS, NL or PEI. Most don't even refer to going to Quebec as 'out east'.
As far as the 'center of the universe' that's really a GTA thing. The rest of us are generally pretty laid back.

 @h82crash: That's why I said "most" people. I've talked to so many people who grew up with and/or maintain that perspective, but it's awesome that you don't. Glad to know that there's others who look at the map of Canada the same way!

 @gdharries: I would say that's Toronto's centre of the universe thing!

 @cliocatface: Yeah you're right. My bad. I went to university in Thunder Bay and it certainly wasn't as prevalent there.
