PRESS RELEASE: Maxxis Eastern States CupWith the start of the Maxxis Eastern States Cup racing season just weeks away, the stoke is building and sure to reach fever pitch when wheels hit dirt at the Glen Park Enduro on April 21-22. A few tweaks and additions have been made to the 2018 schedule and all the news is good. In case you missed it,
here is a link to our season announcement.
What follows is a brief rundown of some last-minute changes to the 2018 season.
The big news is Windham has returned to the Maxxis ESC downhill schedule. The former (and hopefully future) World Cup downhill venue has just been added to the line up on August 19 and the big track will be featured. This brings the total number of downhill events to eight, with a racer's top six results counting towards the overall title.
In addition to our new title sponsor and returning sponsors, we are pleased to announce that Transition Bikes is back on board for 2018. Look for a stable of Transition's finest steeds parked outside the Maxxis ESC registration tent at every race and on the mountain too.
We are pleased to announce that Flat Tire Defender has been added to our roster of top-notch sponsors. Aaron Gwin has been using Flat Tire Defenders for a couple years now and he describes them as a game-changing product that has helped improve his race performance. Anyone who has suffered the agony of a race-run flat will appreciate the level of protection this product provides.
Registration for all ESC events is now open for all events, with early-bird pricing in effect. Licenses are no longer needed to race and a new streamlined, unified pre-registration process will make everything easier.
Another late addition to the Maxxis ESC news feed is that the race-within-a-race competitions have been expanded this year. One Flat Tire Defender foam tire insert will be awarded to the fastest male and female amateur on the Flat Tire Defender Super Stage at enduros this year. The stage will be announced at our racers meeting and identified by banners at that start of that stage. In addition, the fastest in every class gets a Flat Tire Defender drawstring backpack. This new incentive joins our already established stable of in-race premiums. Back for another year are the FOX Transfer Seatpost Climbers Challenge which awards a seatpost to the fastest amateur on a designated climb transfer. The Alex Rims Super Stage is also back, which awards two Alex Rims VOLAR 2.7 enduro/all mountain rims to the fastest male and female amateurs on a designated stage. For downhillers, the FLY Speed Zone awards will be back for the racers who clock the highest speeds through our radar trap.
Series owner George Ulmer remains committed to growing the sport and helping youngsters get into racing. To that end, the MAXXIS ESC and CLIF will be paying the entry fees for all downhill and enduro racers in the CLIF Kids U12 classes. Yup, CLIF Kids will be racing for free at all enduro and downhill events this season.
