Elite Qualifying Results from the Val di Sole DH World Cup 2024

Jun 14, 2024
by Ed Spratt
After the Timed Training session, the Elite racers went against the clock to decide who progresses to the semi-finals.

Myriam Nicole goes fastest in qualifying as she bests the elite women's field by over five seconds. After returning to the podium last weekend in Leogang Myriam Nicole has carried on the top performances into this weekend as she sets the fastest elite women's run. Jess Blewitt was the only rider to come within eight seconds of Nicole as she comes back from a troubled race in Leogang. Camille Balanche makes it into the top three just edging ahead of Vali Höll.

Loic Bruni carries on his winning speed as he just beats his teammate by 0.113 seconds. Matching the top two from Leogang Loic Bruni pulls ahead of Finn Iles again as the pair lead proceedings in Val di Sole. Dakotah Norton is back at the sharp end of racing as he takes third place, 0.605 seconds back.

Check out the qualifying results from the fourth round of the 2024 World Cup series below.

Nice to see it didn't take Camille Balanche too long to recover from her injuries and already back in action once again.

and the week I removed her from my fantasy team. Frown

@Offrhodes: Ah, I completely forgot about the dynamic pricing. I usually just assemble a team of riders who I'm fan of as there is nothing to win in the fantasy competition anyway (at least not where I live according to the fantasy rules) and I just leave it like that. Apparently her value had increased (and despite Aaron Gwin and Sam Hill being injured their value hadn't dropped below zero) so Camille got pulled from my team without me noticing. Goes to show I suck as a team manager. I don't even notice if one of my team members leaves.

@Offrhodes: I added Bruni and Myriam. Feeling smug but watch it all go wrong tomorrow ha-ha.

@tremeer023: I had replaced Camille with Myriam...and after seeing semi results I now feel like that was a wise choice.

So good to see Myriam and Amaury back at the top!

Reece DNS, Bernard DNS, Jordan DNS, Laurie DNQ.
That’s a big list!
  • 5 1
yea with Laurie being the Winner of that Track once. Unbelievable how the field changed.
  • 3 0
@Braench: not his season it seems
  • 3 0
I put Laurie in my team, the track was good to him in the past. Not his season so far. Bummer for the other guys. Max H also injured
  • 1 0
@Ringel: me too, I hope he comes over whatever is bothering him atm.

Shit for my Fantasy Team
  • 3 0
Really worried about Laurie at present, having a bad run of results. I assume it's down to the fatigue he says he's suffering?
  • 2 0
@ompete: I was hoping he'd be back to form this year too. Started the first 2 races with him on the fantasy team. I know he had some horrible wierd illness last year.
  • 23 2
Just over a second between 1st and 5th on that track is unbelievable.
  • 21 0
Yes Dakotah! And Ryan freaking Pinkerton! Let's go boys!

Quali woud be one of the most exciting things too see/hear cause it is the most open one where you are not expecting where trully each rider is... again not a single image.. what a show...

also gives you an scope of how fast are trully going the top riders by seeing some nationals that you´ve seen winning races and now they even strugle to qualify...
  • 8 0
I can understand the lack of footage, but I would definitely like to know what the track conditions are like. With the bucket boys on site, it can't be that hard.

 @abueno: It's a strugle.

@bikesandbeers: only hope left Brunis bike soon will broadcast the whole thing...
  • 3 0
There's already videos on Youtube with coverage of the day. Would be a mess to broadcast with 169 riders, 30 seconds gaps, 5-6 riders on course at all times but I agree, you'd think it would be pretty easy to have a youtube stream of the same video on the big screen at the finish corral at least.
  • 1 1
 @mi-bike: you mean it’s a strrugle
  • 1 0
@colinb19: maybe it would be more dynamic, focusing more on lines, crashes and styles... jumping rider to rider and no so much importance with the whole run but the track amd overall show
  • 2 0
Nobody watched it last year, everybody just complained how useless it was… now suddenly everyone wants to see it. If they bring live coverage next year it will all be complaining why it exists in the first place. At the same time as telling everyone how useless semis are, people will of course say how much better Hardline is, because one can see the entire run… hilarious.

Loic finessing his way into becoming the next GOAT
  • 6 0
I think its possible. His approach and mindset seem to produce consistently great results. I remember thinking back in 2019 how Amaury looked almost untouchable, and clearly the fastest man on the hill when he was on. Fast forward a few years and it does seem that finding consistency and staying inside, or just barely over, the limit of control is the recipe for success in the long term. I love AP, and there are tons of other racers who show flashes of brilliance, but Bruni has emerged as the perennial man to beat over the last couple seasons.

One can only become THE goat, not the NEXT goat.

It would be tough to surpass Minnaar's legacy.
  • 1 0
@mi-bike: that's what I mean. A passing of the torch.
  • 1 0
Depends how you “measure” who the G.O.A.T. is. World championships? Well… overalls? Not far to go for Bruni.

However, if we are talking World Cup wins - that might be a stretch for Bruni at 30 already, he would probably have to ride until he is Minnaar’s age…

What happened to Laurie Greenland? Or did he just have a bad run? I hope he recovers for the next rounds.
  • 1 2
 He's protected?
  • 8 0
He said on Insta he had a bad crash in Leogang and was gonna take it easy for this round. Shame - he would be a top dog here otherwise
  • 4 0
@Tuckshop: Ah, ok, thanks. Yes, that's a shame. Wishing him a speedy recovery for the rest of the season then! Look forward to seeing him back at his best.

Ultra hard track but top 4 men under 1 second? mammamia

It means that there's great feast of wild boar at the end. No music, however.

Sensible answer: U23 rider

According to the split times Finn should be first not Loic… what am I missing?
  • 1 0
I'm not sure what you are reading, but it clearly says: Loic Bruni 3:49.418, Finn Iles: 3:49.531. So Loic is faster by about a tenth of a second.
  • 6 5
How long before those electric suspension controls become an issue!
  • 6 0
You reckon they’ll do any good on this course?? Fairly rough the whole way is it not?
  • 10 0
@Joe89: The top section is flat for the first 35 seconds, i guess you could lock the back up and get some seconds out of it.

Not sure of exactly how its working!
  • 8 1
Or the Specialized boys are just way fitter....which shows especially on a track that long and physical
