[UPDATED] Final Elite XCO Results & Overall Standings from the Val di Sole XC World Cup 2024

Jun 16, 2024
by Ed Spratt
The results are in from the fourth Elite XC World Cup of the year in Val di Sole.

After overnight rain made things tricky for the U23 Women this morning the course began to dry out for the elite racers. Pauline Ferrand Prevot continues her peak performance after a win in Nove Mesto is followed by a second 2024 victory in Val di Sole. From the start of lap two Ferrand Prevot created a lead that couldn't be pulled back as she stormed the climbs ending the race 50 seconds ahead of Puck Pieterse. Pieterse tried her best to catch the 2023 World Champ, but she had to settle for 2nd place ahead of a great race for Candice Lill in 3rd.

Nino Schurter wins for the first time in 2024 after a masterclass in race tactics saw him control the race from the start loop. Ending the day seven seconds in the lead Nino Schurter powered around the technical Val di Sole course riding away from Alan Hatherly in the final stages of the race. In a three-way sprint to the line, Mathis Azzaro takes third lace as he went over the line ahead of Luca Braidot and Filippo Colombo.

Check out the results below.

 Yeah, PFP is definitely the goat !

 @FPi: this is an anglo-saxon males discussion dude.

 I for one am hugely excited at seeing how the athletes for Decathlon Ford are doing (5th in womens, 3rd in mens). These new Decathlon Rockrider bikes are crazy affordable compared to even some of the D2C brands. I hope them showing that these bikes are top tier will make the industry a little more competitive and start driving down some of the stupid pricing we're seeing.

 The Rockrider that’s listed for $6000 MSRP on sale for $4800 that comes with a Reba?
  • 10 1
 @Mntneer: I don't know what models they sell in the US. But in Canada for $4000 Canadian pesos its a full carbon frame, pike, and delux select shock.
  • 2 0
 They are not bad, until you break the frame by having a stick stuck between the back wheel and seat post and you realize how fragile they are. It happened to my XC900 (their carbon XC hardtail) and their customer service sucked big time !!

 I'm sorry for the 3 swiss riders in the top ten that can't go to the Olympics

 What the heck, I thought they haven’t closed the nomination yet but I see they did, and picked Flückiger who is not in top-form lately… What a strange decision…
  • 2 0
 it's normal that a lot of them cannot go
  • 5 0
 @ice29: and that is unbelievable

 Colombo got screwed

 @packfill: some might say, Colombo got robbed!

 A lot of these women are starting to think how nice a Silver medal will look in their trophy case.

 Six weeks is a long time to hold peak form. Others might just really start tampering like right now. I'll bet there will be surprise or two.
  • 12 0
 @CantClimb: tampering is risky business
  • 6 1
 @CantClimb: I sure hope they’re not tampering. Tapering would be much more favorable.
  • 9 7
 @generictrailrider: Lets be honest with ourselves, they're all tampering
  • 1 0
 Edit: duplicated post
  • 2 2
 @CantClimb: Is tampering the polite way of saying doping? Asking for a friend.
  • 2 2
 @Goose76: ..no.. lol...

Tapering

 Let's not forget Candice with a solid 3rd!

 Stoked to see Gwen back at a WC. Gutted that she missed her opportunity to make the USA Olympic squad due to injury. She may still not have beaten out the 2 who eventually made the team but we will never know. She's back and appears to have her form as well. Way to get back in the mic Gwen!

 Fantastic racing today!! I loved seeing Nino take another win and Ferrand Prevot was as dominant as ever. Candice Lill deserves a massive shoutout for that performance as well.

One footage gripe: Oli Beckingsale needs to stop pronouncing Laura Stigger "Laura Sty-ger." It's literally not hard and he's been making this mistake for weeks.
  • 4 0
 If it was just her name, he keeps absolutely butchering most non-english names all the time, even switching between several butchered versions of the same name. Must be some kind of dyslexia.

 @mtbcrosscountry-com: Nothing compares to the nauseating crap that woman was asking Nino at the end. I was so embarrassed for him I had to turn it off.
  • 7 2
 PP doesn't have in the middle the letter 'F' which stands for 'Fast' that's why PFP won the race. Dad joke aside, both PFP and PP and C. Lill as well are all amazing riders. Congrats to them all!

 Féroce Féminin Fusée Française, aka Fast

 @mi-bike: well tried but non.

 Good day for South Africa!

 Discovery have one up on red bull, as they’ve learnt that a 3 way battle for third is more entertaining to watch than the leader riding round solo.
  • 4 0
 Awesome to see Nino Schurter get in shape just in time for the Olympics. If he gets a medal, he should retire then and there, what a career!
  • 1 2
 I think he already said he would retire regardless of the result no?
  • 2 0
 @opignonlibre: I don't think he said he'd retire after this year. He's hinting around a lot, but I see no reason why he should unless he's bored. He just won, and got 2nd the race before, and very well could win another one or two this year. He's 34 points from owning the overall too, so I'm guessing he finishes the year as normal, then does a formal "goodbye" season next year. I don't think he's the type who would just quietly fade away, but want to do some celebatory stuff at the races. Maybe he can hit 40 world cup wins, 10 overalls, 10 world champs, and at least 3 gold olympic medals. Nice round numbers.

 4 'Mericans in the top 15 women - 2 of them in top ten. Yo men - where are you? Blevins 26th.
  • 2 0
 Technically there is an american in 12th place of the men race.
  • 1 0
 @opignonlibre: Fluckiger is American?
  • 1 0
 @herzalot: sorry meant 11th, eyes crossed. Chile is in the american continent.
  • 1 0
 @opignonlibre: That is certainly the broadest definition of American - but since I used the colloquial 'Merican I think it was pretty clear that I was referring to the US of A Americans and not simply a representative of the western hemisphere.
  • 1 0
 @herzalot: The use of the colloqual 'merican' is not a neutral choice. It is a political decision made to maintain the US imperialism and is considered insulting by many people living in the same continent.
  • 1 0
 @opignonlibre: Lighten up Francis. I was poking fun at myself and the world's view of said 'mericans. Sheesh! But I certainly appreciate the lesson in political geography. I am hereby enlightened! I shall now refer to all residents of the western hemisphere as Americans in a respectful, inclusive, non-insulting way. And to my original point, there aren't very many male representatives of the USA on the results sheet. And none above 26th place.
