Entry List: Albstadt World Cup XC 2021

May 5, 2021
by James Smurthwaite
Kate Courtney is making quite an impression after entering the elite category. Her blazing start and a solid race saw her end in 10th.

Racing. Is. Back. The cross country World Cup is kicking off as planned this weekend at Albstadt and it will be quickly followed up by Nove Mesto next weekend. Racing this year carries extra weight as many riders will be using it to build up to the Olympics while others will be hoping to make up time for the truncated, two-round series last year.

We're back to pretty much a full field with riders who chose to give last year's racing, including Mathieu Van Der Poel, on the entry list for the opening round. Check out the full entry list below.

The Fantasy XC League is Presented by RockShox and SRAM.

MVDP vs Nino will be a crazy battle this year. So stoked on this season.

Not so sure Nino will still be the one to beat if you will want to win. MVDP yes, but for Nino, I don't think so. I think it's slowly time for younger guys and Nino will have big problems getting that one victory to tie Absalon's record (or 2 to pass by Absalon). But then again, he can easily prove me wrong on Sunday already Smile

Will be exciting to see how Pidcock stacks up against these guys too!

@sevn: Starting from a long way back on the grid. Stated aim is to try and get top 16, and an entry into the Short Track in round 2.
  • 2 2
@othello: he is going to start on the 4th row, out of 17. start position won't be a huge limiter. it would be no more detrimental than having a bad short track race and finishing outside of top 24
  • 4 0
@zachcalton: you sure? I understood he was going to be approx 92nd on the grid. Even if those rider numbers are the start order he is 75th
  • 4 3
It's good that Nino is a Bosch ambassador now. He's gonna need that against MVDP!!!

What row is MVDP starting from? anyone know?
  • 2 0
@othello: yeah im not sure what that list above is based off but pidcock is ranked 24th out of registered riders and 28th overall in the world. so 3rd row for short track and even if he crashes out of stxc he will be on the 4th row for XC unless a ton of top guys crash out of top 24, he could get pushed to row 5 or 6. if he does well in stxc obviously he could start 1st row too

@scurvy: MDVP is currently unranked with 0 points. unless there is some special start list rules this year due to corona he will have a terrible start position
  • 2 0
@zachcalton: according to the UCI special points document here www.uci.org/inside-uci/constitutions-regulations/regulations Piddcock is ranked 92nd
  • 1 0
@othello: I believe that document was made prior to his swiss cup win.
  • 1 1
 Avancini might beat them both
  • 3 0
will the Red Bull channel be broadcasting it?
  • 2 0
@zachcalton: World cup start positions at this time are not based off of UCI points. They are based off of UCI points of March 2020 plus the 2 world cups and world championships last year. After the Olympics they will switch to current points. So Piddcock is 92nd call up for this weekend.

 @othello: I think you're right

Also really excited to see ULLOA AREVALO Jose Gerardo (from Mexico) in the mix. I have trouble saying his name, but his win last year was great. Excited to see what he can do.

Yea it’s cool to see people from countries not know for XC compete, and win, at the highest level.

Sought confirmation of Nino vs. MvDP vs. Pidcock. Did not leave disappointed! A couple years ago I wouldn't even watch the XC, now it's every bit as entertaining as the DH. Both Men's and Women's women's racing has been awesome and this your looks to be even better.

WOO!!! I'm so excited, it's been SO long since I last saw scribed... Jokes aside, I am exited to watch.

Scribd: it’s almost as useful as a PDF!

I relented and installed the app so I could better read this and all future results. Just as crap experience. Deleted.

There are young guns coming up in both men's and women's races. Stigger, Dascalu, Adreassen, Richards, Lacomte. This is going to be an exciting year. Who will start slow to concentrate on the Olympics? Who will start fast to make their country's Olympic team? I am looking forward to it.

Two races here for the elite men. One for the win and one for Pidders to break the top 16 for 90+ position on the grid. Both are gonna be awesome!

How does the course stack up for different types of skill set? Short sharp climbs or longer attacks ?? I wonder who has what in the bag?
not much to choose from at this level though , that’s what makes it interesting I guess
  • 2 0
I think it's more of a long climb course. No idea who'd be favourites in the womens. Lecomte maybe.

can't wait! it will be amazing!

Interesting to see the makeup of nationalities represented... and not represented. So cool to see so many European and American (both North and South) riders, but methinks there’s a number of asian and african nations that could be doing more to promote their mountain biking scenes.

The fields are deep. Amazing that we have a full race calendar--gratefuil to everyone involved for their dedication.

Zune is to MP3 as Scribd is to any list ever - not completely terrible but it should just give up trying.

Is the fantasy league ready. My money is on @dolores to win again
  • 2 0
Is there a link to stream / broadcast of the event? Is redbull doing it again this year?
  • 5 0
 Yes, it's on Redbull TV

Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado... my women's dark horse this season, but unfortunately starting way in the back due to lack of UCI points.

 Anyone know why no Kulhavy?
  • 5 2
Maybe because he's been all but officially retired for at least a couple of years now? Seems to come out for races every now and then either because he just feels like it, or to give his fans (which I'm sure he still has) a bit of retro fun.
  • 2 3
@Ginsu2000: he races from time to time and listed on the fantasy. I’m looking to see if anyone actually knows something helpful, but thanks for the snarky pretentious remark.

@hi-dr-nick: The pb fantasy roster has never been a particularly reliable indicator of who is regularly taking the start line. For example, upper tier riders who are out for complete seasons for one reason or another have still been available as picks. As both of our posts noted, Kulhavy still races sporadically. As my original post noted, he is effectively retired, as far as being a regular world cup participant. I'm not sure what else you would want to know. I don't know if he has any social media feeds that give indications of when he plans to make surprise appearances.

He does marathon races these days.

@hi-dr-nick: PB's XCO Fantasy List is always outdated... seems like PB staff have to update it every year/round at the request of users.

 Go J-Riss!

Is this race going to be on Red Bull TV? somewhere else? anyone know? sorry if I missed that info...
  • 2 0
Looks like it will be on RBTV, at least here in Canada. Can't speak for other parts of the world. Check the app under live events, it should show there.

Jenny Rissveds said on Swedish TV a couple of days ago, that she feels in her best form ever.
