Once again, Eric Barone, so called The Red Baron showed his talent, commitment, and self-control. On March, 18th 2017 at 7:40am, Eric has beaten his own world speed record with a mountain bike on the speed snow track of Vars, France. After 2 years of a challenging project, Eric Barone, surrounded by his team reached 227,720 Km/h (141.498 mph) despite high instabilities on the fastest part of the run, which forced Eric to go beyond his limits.

Great bike control at 1:41. Much respect to man.
  • + 2
I'd say the bike helped a lot, the Vector always had great handling.
  • + 22
@IrishTom: no matter what bike youre on, keeping the bike upright at 220km/h after that is bloody impressive

@MatthewsMTB: All I know is, that whenever I hit a speed-wobble like that on my Vektar, I trusted it to see us through s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/6f/59/25/6f59256f3a5c485ae977ad0f172abd4f.jpg

@IrishTom: the gyroscopic effect of the wheels at that speed keeps the bike upright more than anything else.

 Did a whip
  • + 3
@whitebullit: yeah, you're right- that's how my parents explained it to me when I had the Vektar.
  • + 0
@IrishTom I'm Confident I'll see podiums on my Vektar this year too. Serious whip!
  • + 2
@excavator666: get Raleigh on the case to the podium pants ready !
  • + 8
lol @ the people commenting on what it takes to keep a bicycle at 141mph upright. let me know next time you hit that speed.
  • + 3
Those crazy Frenchies are at it again!
  • + 3
I'm amazed he was able to recover from that.

apparently not too many people have heard of the theory of gyroscope?? or is science just a bunch of bs?

 @whitebullit:

Apparently not too many people have heard of the theory of jokes?? Or is humour just a bunch of bs?

@IrishTom: Well, looks like I'll be adding the vektar to my wanted bikes list now. That thing looks rad!

When will these transalliance bikes be going direct sales?
  • + 8
All that excitement for a number reminds me of when I would finally figure out a math problem in grade school. That is bloody fast.
  • + 7
Fastest man down the mountain: Barnone
  • + 5
Great result, crazy speed and nerve. Although, that helmet looks pretty pointless, would a motorbike helmet not give better high speed protection?
  • + 13
Yes, but it would be slower. That helmet is all about going fast.
  • - 1
@zsandstrom: Yeah that's a good point. Could the clear casing not control the aerodrag?
  • + 1
141 mph in a ski/snowboard helmet... can you say balls of steel. I guess I can see the size factor/issue with wind drag, but man, crazy. either way, mad props!
  • + 4
Hope e4s and pikes? Looks like it from the pics on his site, cant see much else, doesn't look like a big travel frame though.
  • + 1
It's the old scott gambler frame. Dunno if he is running it with +200mm of travel.
  • + 5
That shimmy at 1:41... I wonder how they shape the fairing to cover his gigantic balls.
  • + 2
I almost got my Mazda 6 up to that speed on the open speed limits in the outback. The car was so sketchy and floaty at that speed. I can't even imagine what it would be like on a bike in the snow.
  • + 2
Looks like he's still rocking the old gambler!! I love that frame!! Freaking heavy but when you ride it it doesn't feel that heavy. Look at the short crank arms Smile ERIC!! YOUR THE SHEET!!
  • + 1
any other pictures showing a Gambler?
  • + 2
 @trumbullhucker55:

With that rear end, it's most definitely an old gambler
  • + 1
@trumbullhucker55: No, i couldn't find anymore pictures of it showing it is a old gambler. It was just the rear end that's from a gambler. In other attempts from few years back he also ride on a old gambler frame. Right tool for the job if you ask me
  • + 1
 @trumbullhucker55:
Just Google "eric barone scott gambler" you get loads of pics
  • + 1
 @oldmanDan:

ahhh the OLD gamblers!! I was staring at that rear end looking for the newer version lol. Thanks!

 Several different Arnold screams.
  • + 3
Glad you set your speed record straight. And RedCow is nowhere to see. Goooood
  • + 2
no where near as impressive as the one i saw where i guy rides a standard mondraker down a sand dune but good on the guy tho Smile
  • + 2
 Max Stöckl @ 164.95kph "only" though !... :-P
here the snow is making it look less impressive as it's all plain white.
  • + 4
I don't trust Hutchinson tires at 30mph, Steel Heuvos
  • + 2
140 mph in a piss pot helmet , that’s confidence for you
amazing effort though
  • + 3
I call BS, that's clearly an e-bike look at that bb!
  • + 1
I wonder if people would actually challenge the Strava Times(if he recorded it) on that mountain.
  • + 2
Someone in flouro getup will probly beat his time riding uphill on their nomad, strava is super accurate like that
  • + 2
Its too bad the last picture says "word" speed record!!
  • + 1
So, was the snow helpful in this situation or just chosen for the added thrill of it all?
  • + 2
He's attempted and I think might have the record for both doing it on snow and land. The snow if definitely faster.
  • + 2
 "We're not fast...." .......218 kph.....
  • + 2
Who wants to see this done on dirt?
  • + 1
He's done it on dirt before. Look up his crash from like 10 years ago. His steer tube snaps mid run.
  • + 1
Better check the seat tube for a hidden motor!
  • + 1
 Luckily not rebdull anymore.
  • + 1
I didn't know MTB tires were available in V speed rating.
  • + 1
That was fast as f*ck!!!! :O Félicitations! Big Grin
  • + 1
Nice word speed record! I wonder how many... and did he touch type?
  • + 1
 "word speed record" embarassing!
  • + 1
short chainstays for the win Wink
  • + 1
That's 3.75 times faster than I've ever been.
  • + 2
 big big big BIG ballzzzz
  • + 1
When you can go faster on skis than on a bike, why use a bike?
  • + 1
Would make for a great DH race . Unlimited class.
Franken bikes welcome.Smile
  • + 1
 the last record
  • + 1
 Strava line Wink
  • + 0
Amazing. The old dog doubled down.
  • + 1
 Shake and bake
  • + 0
I don't understand French but that was fast. Mais oui bien sur alors!
  • + 1
 looks like a session
  • + 0
 Was it a 29er?
  • + 3
Must have been. Everybody knows, that 29 wheels make you go faster.
  • + 1
This bike has a 27.5 front and a 29 in the back.
  • - 1
What what he has hope brakes!!!!!!!
  • - 3
First time in my life i got choked up for a frenchman!
