Escape to Hurricane – Video

May 3, 2017
by Ibis Cycles
Jeff Kendall-Weed recently moved from sunny California to not as sunny Bellingham, Washington.

Faced with his first Bellingham winter, Jeff found himself longing for some sunshine, so he headed down to the high desert in Hurricane, Utah.

Follow Jeff on his excellent adventure. Jeff got help from good 'ol Ibis Cycles, BikeFlights.com, Kali Protectives, and Kitsbow Cycling Apparel.

Once Jeff landed in Utah, our good friends at Over The Edge Sports in Hurricane took good care of him.

the way that guy rides, hucks don't even seem like hucks. more like whisper pops. that kinda precision could get a guy hated...

I don't need to be a World Cup level DH shredder but if only I had his skills.

 FYI - It's pronounced HER-IH-KIN. Not Hurr-i-cane. Because we're Utahns.
  • 6 0
Easy way to spot a tourist
  • 7 0
 and Tooele is pronounced 2-ILL-UH
  • 14 0
If you're ever in a tropical storm and someone yells, "Run! A her-ih-kin is coming" You can blame the needless loss of life on someone from Utah unable to pronounce "hurricane."

Wink

happy trails. . . .

 Don't forget duchesne (do-shane)

Flo-ree-da if you live in Durango CO. Another tourist test.

Utards also say bicept when they mean bicep, acrosst when they mean across, Zions when they mean Zion, titch when they mean touch, etc. If you want to fit in with the rural Utard hillbillies, say hurrikin. If you want to sound like somebody that's graduated from high school, say hurricane.
  • 1 0
@BudGreen: find me someone from Utah who says Hurricane, educated or not, and I will come to Brighton and give you a high five.
  • 4 0
 @colemanb:

Just for the record, the voice in my head read that as hurrik'n and brigh'n.

It's not that people are uneducated, it's a dialect or an accent.
  • 1 1
@colemanb: The hill people that live down there say crick when they mean creek. I'm not going to talk like a hillbilly. I don't say y'all when I go to Texas, I don't say ima when I go to Inglewood (as in,Ima drink this 40), When I go to Green Bay I don't say beg when I mean bag (I'm only checking one beg on my flight out of Green Bey).

When I go to Hurricane, I say Hurricane, and I live in Utah, so you can come to Brighton and give me a high five, but I would prefer if you didn't.
  • 1 0
@BudGreen: haha, good reasoning, but @utahbikemike hit the nail on the head. Whether or not you think it's correct, that's how the locals, the real locals who speak the dialect, say it. If you want to look like an out-of-towner, be my guest!

Make riding fun again. Weed for president!

Great video, impressive riding, lots of fun and big smiles.

... but why didn't Jeff land the canyon gap in a wheelie?

Just kidding!

... but...

Thank goodness for this video. Every vid from this guy makes me happy.

Me next winter i mean way slower with mostly 2 wheels on the ground and nor as stylish at all so basically I'm gonna be in Utah next winter
  • 2 0
Agreed. I'm desperate to ride that terrain.
  • 5 0
@Adamrideshisbike: Most of us down here are desparate to sample some of the stuff up your way. Care to trade for a month?
  • 1 0
Bc + utah + alps + tropics = got it all covered. Bonus round iceland

@BryceBorlick: If you get a chance to watch "Under an Arctic Sky" you'll see a sick movie on surfing in Iceland. It's touring festivals right now. Unbelievably good.

That Grafton gap is massive. Way to send it big
  • 11 1
Kendall-Weed edits never disappoint. He covers both MTB and BMX feels.
  • 9 0
How come my HD3 doesn't do that?
  • 4 0
I was thinking the same thing. I feel like an old grandpa driving a ferrari now.
  • 8 1
Man this guy is my favorite guy to watch by far. Who the hell smiles THAT much while riding? What a ripper!
  • 1 0
He JRHFB and lets us lot worry about the future of 27.5 wheels Wink
  • 6 0
Looks like somebody overdosed with FLOW. Damn impressive. He made it look eezee. Like "how to do canyon gaps with a smile".

You ever seen Jeff Kendall, on weed?
  • 2 0
 He's an enhancement rider...

@LavenderGooms: do you run procore with the 1ply setup?
  • 8 3
@LavenderGooms: clearly has no experience with Ibis...CS and warranty treatment are amongst the best in the biz.
  • 2 1
@AaGro: is it harder to poke holes in charmin ultra or an ibis frame? @LavenderGooms:
  • 2 0
@ghammack: not sure that makes sense to me, but I will admit to having inadvertently wiped my ass with a finger...Never poked a hole in an ibis though

Max & Jeff make such an awesome team. All of their edits are imiginative and really fun. I rode Goose Berry Mesa a few years back and it's pretty crazy to see his style and flow on those trails!!

The cost of Bikeflights from Vancouver to Phoenix and back is the the same as it would cost me to fly-with my bike.

Can someone explain the value in this service to me?
  • 5 0
How's the cost compare to going direct through UPS or FedEx? For me, it's always cheaper to use bikeflights.com.
  • 6 1
I always prefer driving, its 2 more days (4 both ways)but nothing better than your own car to get you wherever you wanna go and for me I sleep in my van so it's a no brainer

Finally a video where the ride fits the mm of travel.

On WTB Ranger 2.8 tires no less. Waiting to hear comments about how fragile they are. Are folks finalllly starting to get over that.
  • 1 0
Plus tires rock! Especially on Rock!

I skip so many posted videos these days. Except JKW videos.

Over the Edge in Fruita ROCKS!!

You should see the one in Hurricane, basically just a house turned into a bike shop. Huge backyard work area and a huge front yard area. So cool

@rzalewski6: Ya, I knew I might never go back and have the same opportunity. Unfortunately, I haven't made it back since then...sad.
  • 1 0
Killer riding! Hang in there JKW, Northwest summers are amazing. Bellingham can't be beat when it's dry!
  • 4 3
Don't go there. It's hot and terrible riding really flat and boring!!!
  • 3 1
 JKWeed!
  • 2 0
 So smooth !!
  • 1 0
Goddamn! Anybody know the names of trails in this video?
  • 2 0
 @Grunk:
Red Bull stuff, Gooseberry, Scout trails, Little Creek, Guacamole, Grafton.
  • 2 1
We should tell everyone so we get even more people on trails.
  • 3 0
@savage47: LOL. Yes, I'm sure trails in a remote corner of Utah will suddenly crumble under the traffic from millions of riders. And how dare the riders that do show up spend money in that insignificant little town.
  • 1 0
@Grunk: Right. This spot is pretty far from any major airport so i think we are ok.
  • 1 0
Good eye. I thought I saw some King Kong in there too. JKW always finds the best lines and rides them like nobody's business (I'm sure Quentin from OTE was hooking him up). Love his edits.
  • 2 0
 Holy skill!
  • 3 3
It's Utah, no beer and really not that great of dirt. Go to Colorado, much better.
