It s a thing of beauty
It's a thing of beauty!

Although Troy Lee Designs' new Stage helmet isn't available to buy JUST yet, you should be to get your hands on one later this year. One thing is for sure, it is one good looking lid! It has also won an award at 2018's Eurobike show.

It s a looker for sure

Aimed at the Enduro market, the helmet features giant air flow ports with no mesh guarding, a lightweight construction, Fidlock fastening system and MIPS. Troy Lee Desgins claims that it'll be the lightest DH-certified lid on the market.

The lid has been designed by TLD's Guillaume Tanghe and when it's on sale it'll be supplied with three different cheek and kneck pad thicknesses. Final pricing and specs will be announced later this summer.

I would love to see an independent test of helmets like the troy lee, fox proframe, giro schwitchblade and bell super dh regarding their protective effect in different areas Smile and maybe compare them to a full dh lid like the bell full 9 or something

Not that easy since first thing that a good helmet should do is to fit perfectly your head, and each head is different. If it does not fit properly all other areas are irrelevant. Smile

@entrecerros: did you hit your head by chance?

It saddens me how appalling the design of TLD has become in recent times (paint, not product). This is a great design, and looks dismal.

Not a fan of orange peel blue?

@yzedf: did you remember the old paint with lion, angel,...

@yzedf: that was a lot of orange peel

If the chin bar isn't detachable, why go to the trouble of making it look like it is? It would surely look better without the fake panel gap?

I don't think they try to make it look detachable, it's probably that the chin bar is constructed separately and then joined to the rest of the helmet. That's what it's like on the Fox Proframe anyway.

Probably the moulds are more simple with the two-piece-shell.

For now the pro frame looks better. Paint is a little mundane. Chin bar looks weird for not being detachable and the visor looks wonky. But hurry up and release it while it’s still summer so we can put our hands to one.

Man for a LTD helmet , the paint on it is pure Earl Shrieb.

Every option to help get rid of the "joey" look of the bell helmets is welcome in my opinion. That's one I'd happily wear.

I tried one of these on and must say my range of visibility was ridiculous. Couldn’t see helmet anywhere I looked. Comfortable too. Pro frame is sweet too

Can we get a version without MIPS for a better and more comfortable fit for less money please? Almost impossible to find high-end helmets without that garbage can liner inside these days.

I have to agree, the MIPS in my proframe really limits the fit and comfort.

 Met Parachute doesn’t have MIPS.

For the people complaining about the orange peel paint, you need to understand that the helmet is likely a prototype. The paint was probably done at their shop. That being said, it does not look good for the shop that is supposed to be the best helmet painter in the world to display a paint job like that.

I saw an TLD employee testing this in the wild and he let me fiddle with it, this is the lightest most vented helmet I have the fox proframe and it made that feel heavy SERIOUSLY! he also told me they did get it DH certified ! this is an helmet from the future! love it!

There's no doubt in my mind that there are better color ways in the pipeline, I'm pretty sure the matte black one is on the award image for Eurobike product of show or whatever it won. The look of the Fox Proframe really makes it unwearable for me, even the fit is a little off (I wear a Rampage Pro Carbon now). If this lid is at least as comfortable as a D2 and close to a D3 I'll never wear anything else.
  • 2 1
I would like to see a re-release of the D2 open face. Not for the added protection but for the style. I believe the market is here for it now, not like it's absence when they first released it.

I thought the helmet was supposed to save your head, who cares about the paint job, matte black rules! TLD helmets are the most comfortable & best fitting imo.

 Sweet, looks like a helmet!

 Looks like a Joey's lid.

def wonky lookin'. tld needs some new blood.

Anyone know what its made from?
  • 1 0
That is not a good looking lid
  • 1 2
I almost got excited that the chin bar would be detachable. I guess my decision will still reside with Leatt or Bell...

Give the Proframe a chance. I have one and can say I am impressed. I have this as my trail helmet and it works great. I still have a Giro Disiple, Fox Proframe, and IXS trail helmet and the Proframe vents as well as the IXS lid.
