EES Punta Ala - Day One

This weekend the European Enduro Series kicks off in beautiful Punta Ala, Italy. In warm and sunny weather, today was the first mandatory training and the prologue for tomorrow´s race. A broad variety of shredders competed in the prologue and they have all one opinion about this stage – suffering, intense and you have to pedal all the way. "In some parts more Cross Country than Enduro," said James Shirley (GBR) in the interview. Ines Thoma (GER) and Michal Prokop (CZE) won the Women’s and Men’s Elite category.

The international starter list and the challenging stages are going to promise an atmospheric and thrilling race tomorrow.

So if you have only one type of track, you will select for only one type of rider and Enduro will turn into Long Downhill. I like that they have different styles of tracks as it both lets other types of riders into the mix, makes the series winners be masters of all types of riding, and keeps the tech that flows out of the series actually rideable on our home trails rather than just being mini DH bikes (I love descending but I have to ride up to get there, no lifts where I live).

The only thing they have to be careful of is that the gaps are much larger climbing. The entire race could be decided by one stage. Not against climbing in Enduro but it should not be THE defining factor.

Uh, unless the course profile wasn't what they rode, the timed sections were either downhill or flat.

If you complain about that, please hand over all of your man cards. "Oh, my 160mm bike with Minion DHFs wasn't the perfect bike today. The course was too easy/hard/XC!"

Looking at the profile I completely agree with LeDuke. No issues with those courses at all.

I have to say the trails look awesome, but the footage is some of the worst I've seen. Whoever recorded this needs to try some different mounts or something.

My neck hurts from trying to look farther up the trail.

Looks physical and fun to me. Perfect for an enduro race...If they ride it blind !
