Evan Wall, the winner of last year's Pinkbike Academy, announced on Instagram today that he has parted ways with the Orbea Enduro Team for 2022.

During his time with Orbea, Evan raced the second half of the EWS season and steadily picked up momentum, finishing the season with a 14th place in Scotland. He said in an interview after the race that the result was the icing on the cake that has left him with more motivation than ever for the winter.

bigquotesBeen a pleasure to be a part of the @orbeaenduroteam for the season! So grateful for the opportunity to race @world_enduro with unreal support.

Sad to go, but excited for what the future holds! Thanks Orbea!

What do you think I’ll be up to for the 2022 season!?

The Orbea Enduro Team also shared a goodbye message and congratulated Evan on a great season:

bigquotesIt has been a pleasure, Evan⁣.

From Pinkbike Academy to @world_enduro, you have shown us what you are capable of, growing into the season like a real champ. There’s no doubt you have earned your place in this sport. Our journey together ends here, but we’ll keep the good times rolling together.⁣

We will see you in between the tape. Stay true and please stop by our tent from time to time and share some laughs with us.⁣

All the best for your future life and racing.⁣
Orbea Enduro Team

We haven't heard yet what Evan's sponsorship plans are for the future, but his post seems to suggest he has a team lined up for 2022. We'll keep you updated when we learn more.

Making space for Flo. Can't wait to see where he goes from here!

Not unexpected, if Orbea is going to continue sponsoring the PB academy, and gaining new riders all the time.

And I must say, that 14th place is actually super notable/impressive. Excellent work there Evan Smile .

It's honestly a brilliant move on their part. They constantly get to sponsor a new rider who has a lot of hype behind them, and then they don't have to hang on to anyone and pay them more for contract renewals. Orbea knows what's up.

Totally agree great marketing strategy. I predict Orbea may be replaced by another brand if this continues to be successful. @bonkmasterflex:

That's a bit of an Evil comment, Yet-i find myself in agreement that it can be a difficult Pivot to make.

@krisrayner: all jokes aside, he could be in for some Good Times ahead.

Maybe SANTA will CRUZ on down to bring him a new bike to TREK on.

I really think that these sort of leak-posts should be Forbidden, even if they are just a personal Antidote.

Hopefully got picked up by another team. Very impressive riding at the end of the year and a great person as well.

100% he got picked up by a team

Definitely. Orbea was the springboard into bigger and better, especially after the real world showing he had last year.
  • 24 1
Kudos surely to Orbea, giving him the leg up through Academy, then not holding them into a long contract so the prodigy can flourish and find their own best fit…..

….and so the cycle repeats…

Orbea blew the budget on Maes

I kinda figured Orbea was acting as a spring-board for PBA winners, more than a long term placement. No way they can continue to sponsor the show and riders, and take on and keep a new rider every year. Very professionally handled by both Evan and Orbea, they get great exposure, he gets great exposure and a chance to show what he can do, then go out and build his career. Pretty cool.

GT for sure, they probably made the swap with Maes. Evan has proven that he can ride during his short season on the EWS. He's not only a good rider, he has also a great personality. I wish him a brilliant future with any other teams he will join. I can't wait to see him riding next season, he's surely a rider to watch! Good Luck Evan

I would think he's a great pickup for GT.

 @swellhunter: Great call.

Classy departing comments from Orbea! Whoever picked him up is lucky to have him. Seems like at this point in his career it is all opportunity for someone with his skill and work ethic.

 Grim Donut?
  • 4 4
I doubt he's that desperate for a bike!

It’s crazy how invested we feel with Evan from our experience with the Pinkbike Academy. Honestly, what a great show and concept. Did anyone else watch any of his Orbea videos and see a young Emmett (pinkbike academy 2) shredding alongside him…. Makes me hmmm is Emmett the next winner? Hey pinkbike, maybe for season 3 pinkbike should just offer the pro contract and make all the contestants ride the grim donut v2. Just say’n…
  • 1 0
Did you notice if Emmett was riding an Orbea bike? If he was that could answer your question.

Who wouldn't want those flowy long locks and style on their EWS team... so hot...He's even an ambi turner...
  • 2 0
The flowy locks yin to Wyn's yang?

Kona or Specialized would be cool to have a sponsorship with. Maybe also fox racing or Smith or Poc helmets, goggles and apparel.
  • 2 0
Does anyone else pronounce it, "OR-BEE"?

Just me, then? I'll see myself out
  • 7 5
Either Norco, Commencal, Propain, or Rocky Mountain are my guesses.
  • 22 0
 How many does that leave?
  • 1 2
@mi-bike: Trek, Scott, Ibis, Orange, Transition...
  • 2 0
@RBalicious: transition isn’t an option, they dont offer any real support to riders and racers after FMD changed bike sponsors. They are more local and haven’t given any real support needed for a EWS team or racer
  • 4 1
This is why December to February is my favorite time of year. Patiently, but impatiently waiting to see where everyone goes.
  • 2 0
 Norco
  • 2 0
Norco sounds way more plausible than RMB. They've got Remi and Jesse.
  • 1 0
rocky would b a good fit for him but im sorta predicting hes headed for GT, made th switch for maes??
  • 3 1
We all can agree there is only one bike for him.
  • 3 0
 the grim doughnut
  • 2 0
Great ambassador for the sport, any team would be lucky to pick him up!
  • 1 0
My guess is Norco. That is puuuure speculation on my part though lol.
  • 1 0
I had forgotten he was last year’s winner.
  • 1 0
Anyone who wins PBA only gets a year long contract with Orbea.
  • 3 3
Orbea can't afford him now that they are paying Maes big $
