Evil Updates the Offering With a UDH & New Colors

Add the Evil Offering to the list of bikes that are getting slight tweaks rather than major revisions for 2023. Like the Wreckoning, its longer-travel sibling, the Offering LS now has a universal derailleur hanger (UDH) and an updated linkage that eliminates the possibility of dropping a spacer on the ground and watching it roll away during a shock swap. There are changes on the horizon in the drivetrain world, and by the looks of things a UDH will be required to take advantage of them.

If you were wondering, LS stands for 'lightly salted' – Evil are adding a little flavor to their lineup, but not changing the recipe. The Offering still retains its 29” wheels and 141mm of rear travel, and a 66.4-degree head tube angle in the stock setting with a 150mm fork. A flip chip allows that number to drop to 65.8-degrees while also lowering the BB height by 8mm.

Looking for something slacker? The Offering can run a 160mm fork, or Evil has angle-adjusting headsets available to knock up to 1.5-degrees off of the head tube angle.

Evil is also offering free yearly bearing replacements on all of their bikes from 2022 forward.

The Offering retains its short, 430mm chainstays and SuperBoost spacing, but is now UDH compatible.

 if you've ever had to do a bearing swap-out on a Specialized bike (billions of spacers flying everywhere), you'll appreciate a brand that tweaked a design to keep the spacers in place!

 Caveat- I think Evil has some of, if not the best looking frames out there. The lines are perfect.

That being said, their design probably requires some pretty complex molds, which makes it hard to iterate every 3 years, since molds are north of $100,000 and it can take 2-3 molds per size, even assuming all the sizes share the same rear triangle, which might require more than a single mold by itself...

 So much hate for this brand, almost certainly from folks who have never ridden one. Don't you guys know not to judge a bike by geo chart? I've demoed an offering, and the overall climb/descend balance was fantastic. No wonder they don't send bike to PB to review, the Pinkers will just s!@# all over it. The Following V1 was the best bike I've ever had, should have never sold it. The DELTA suspension is amazing. I'm a fanboy. Next bike will probably be a wreckoning.

 Word on the street back in the day was that somewhere between 5% and 95% of the first six years worth of Evil bikes shat themselves. That might have something to do with the hate.
A mate of mine had two and they both shat themselves, which was a shame because they looked sexual - especially the first gen undead

 @taskmgr: If they'd send me one for free I'd just ride it. Surely can't be that bad. How short are these chainstays then? Mine are 415mm, works perfectly fine. As for the boost stuff, what can be so bad about it? Just get a hub that fits and you'll be good.

 @vinay: oh yeah, pretty bad. the dual leverage ratio can be a bitch. especially with coil shocks. and they do in fact break constantly.

 Have you owned one? They crack, creak and generally fall apart, we love them on our gnarly terrain as they are awesome bikes when they work but fk almost everyone owned by the crew had failin some way. They have had major production quality issues. I feel sorry for evil ad their bikes are sik

 New colors are part of the production cycle.
Year 1 - new product, start working on future model
Year 2 - new color, proto & develop future model
Year 3 - new color, final revisions & sell in future model
Year 4 - NEW Model, then repeat steps 1-3

Budgets, staff, economy, and world events can/will affect the cycle…

 So are their seat tubes still so short internally that you can hardly insert a decent length post, leaving you with a a super low looking frame with a seat you can’t put down.

 you can slam a 180 one up on a Medium frame... i'd say that's plenty enough

 @NicolaZesty314: their sizing is a little on the large side. the medium is for riders upto 6 foot. the size small is closer to many medium size bikes. so as a 5`6" rider I normally take a medium like my starling murmur with 180mm post slammed. but on the offering I would take a small and my dropper sticks so far out the evil frame (5cm) that I would need a much shorter travel post that would leave me unable to fully drop the seat. so effectively the seat height is out of proportion with the rest of the bike.

 I have a medium Following V3 and a 210 Oneup dropper that is about 10mm shy of allowing full insertion.

 @likeittacky: think about it: a 180mm dropper slammed into a 410mm seat post is low enough the tyre just touches the seat on full compression. So it’s super low, great for steep techy stuff. Fully extended is perfect. If I use a 150 post. When it’s slammed it’s 30mm higher. That’s no good for a short ass on techy steeps.

 @propermuntered: You want your tire hitting the seat? That's Stupid! Likewise 5'6'' 150 post / 355 STH, 68mm from collar to collar and i get slapped by the tire frequently in situations from the 29 in back. Tire does not hit the seat and there is no need to go lower ;it will only create an issue or cause more shorts to get ruined.

Something is totally weird with your seat height... i'm not kidding either.

 @likeittacky: my starling murmur with 410mm seat tube fully accepts my 180mm dropper post on full extension its the same height as you on your evil with 150mm. difference is my seat will lower 30mm more than you, in the really steep tech terrain and via ferratas I ride in the alps I very much like this as it keeps the seat off my ass if I need to bail or im on a really shitty rocky switchback with huge exposure. horses for courses. I wanted an offering because I wanted the shorter chain stays and more progressive rear end but the 30mm higher seat killed it for me, no need to be an abusive fan boy.

 @propermuntered: That murmur must have a very straight ST with no interference for the post cable actuator! FYI-Evil now has lowered its rider height for a medium to 5'6'' which is ridiculous especially with the longer reach than v1 model. @ 5/6 anything over 150 reach is a bit much imo

 6ft 3 on an XL and it’s the best climbing bike I’ve had since my S works enduro or most recently pivot firebird.

 So I see they are still taking themselves and their edgy branding weirdly serious. It's especially odd, considering their bikes are actually pretty tame and middle-of-the-road. No stand-out geometry or cutting edge features. And on top of that, their customers mostly don't seem to be the core freeriders they apparently would like to target. In reality, their marketing seems to speak mostly to middle-aged dudes down in Guildford, riding flow trails on a sunday afternoon.

 Do we really need all those flip chips and anglesets? To me it looks like a quick fix of the bad design. (I'm not picking here just on Evil. There's a lot of customers here)

Idk, maybe I'm wrong but I like to believe how bike companies test their bikes before releasing them and in the process they choose the geometry that works the best for most of the riders most of the time.

I'm not sure that I want a bike with +/- 3° HA adjustments, STA adjustments, different BB heights, 3 CS lengths, 4 shock progressiveness and chameleon paint job.

 I think as long as it actually DOES something, adjustability is cool. For example, If I got an offering, I'd keep the stock HTA cause I like my front wheel to be planted on the techy crap I climb here in Las Vegas. But I bet if I lived in the PNW I'd want the slackened HTA.

I'm not a fan of flip chips that change something by like, 0.3 degrees. Why even have it?

 About to hit up the gnar gnar? My bike is about to get 0.6° slacker! Can you guys just hang out for like half an hour while I remove these five linkage bolts and six pieces of machined aluminum, then flip two of them 180 degrees, and then quickly reinstall everything and get it torqued to spec?

 There are good implementations like the stumpy evo where you can change the hta by 2 degrees and the bb by 10mm in 5 minutes. Most are pretty stupid though. Tbh even my stumpy evo got set to low and slack and I haven't changed it.

 There are plenty of bikes that don't have any adjustments you can buy. But some of us do like fiddling with our bikes and trying different setups on the same bike.

On my Following I'll run the flip chip in the X-Low position on 29ers in the spring when the ground is soft/muddy. And during mid-summer when everything dries out and gets sandy I'll throw on some 27.5 plus wheels and put the flip chip in the Low (high) position. That's what the flip chip is for.

It's one of the big reasons I bought the bike is because I can set it up in different ways and I'm not stuck to one thing (like buying a mullet bike and then deciding you want to ride a full 29er, oops, you now need a new bike).

 @WestwardHo: Have a point here, I did the flip chip change on my Evil Offering to x-low recently, was not as easy as I would like. I am glad it has the adjustment, but there are other bikes that do this easier. Bike looks and rides sick though :- )
