EWS Qualifier at Montenbaik Enduro Round 2 Corral, Chile

Epic - this describes the second date of National championship Montenbaik Enduro Series. The hardest race of the year in this discipline was lived for three days in Corral Town (Valdivia City- Chile); Where the competitors had an exhausting and tiring sporting trip of more than 90kms. Trip? Yes, Because the place met all conditions to drive crazy about beauty while we pedalled around the area.


Corral is one of the places that Chile has with great pride to realize one of dates the World Championship Mountain Bike known (Enduro World Series), in this occasion was also to qualify for those who wish to compete in EWS.


Between the towns Niebla, Valdivia y Corral, the riders enjoyed this beautiful Region De Los Ríos, with spectacular postcard views and amazing landscapes, that which will remain in the memories of each one of those who visited this place.


People who stayed in another side of Corral Town used the available Ferries to get around from one place to another, someone in barges accommodated bicycles in the seat of tourists, every 15min. This delayed people between 20 or 30 minutes when arriving at their destination; a few meters more in direction of Valdivia were the largest Ferries ships that in turn transporting vehicles.


On arrival at the port, in the parking, a friendly man called Don Ariel welcomes all those who keep their vehicles in the place which he considers like his home.



Local People are benefiting more and more with arrival of riders, tourists, etc. Showing their handicrafts and works that drive the locality to be a quoted tourist area. To the outskirts of the layout could be acquired between souvenirs, clothes, food and different options to take some Corral Town for the house.


It begins the first day, after the day of acknowledgement, where those participating can choose the best lines and know the terrain they would cope with. At the moment of knowing what the circuits would be, everyone understood, the race was not going to be easy.


Second special of the day, PE La Marina waits to the riders with their fast and slippery sections.


Concentration, skill, anxiety, nerves are some things that must be overtaken in an enduro descent, and be constant and precise. In the photo, the little José Manuel Ibáñez, only 11 years old.


This circuit measured 1.2 km, and harboured sections with fast entrances to curves closed and slippery, even more on the day of the race since in the night of the previous day a rain fell that left the ground difficult to dominate.



Finishing the special “PE. La Marina”, had to rise “PE. Portuaria”, for a eternal link, after several hours of pedaling, it went across by a rock slide.


In the middle of the special stage the ground opened, being used by the team of trail builders adding entertaining obstacles, between gaps well formed to later introduce to another zone of forest. PE Portuaria was the new special building to the race.

The winner of the day was Mauricio Acuña, registering 17:54.97 min. In women, the first place was taken Florencia Espiñeira, 21:24:09 min.



We quickly passed the second and final day, where the sunrise we received in a magnificent way, astonishing us more and more of the place since it dawned clear, not like the previous days where the mist dominated the coastal edge.



Cemetery of bicycles, at the end of the urban area called La Aguada. To the day 2 is decided to eliminate the last special stage, “PE. JC” leaving only two test top play in the day (PE. San Juan and PE. Rina).


Between Track, I decided to take the time to give a space to nature as is usual in my reports.


“Copihue,” in the time of the National holidays is a symbol of unmissable Chilean culture. Remembering the independence time fondas and ramadas (Typical Chilean parties) are adorned with beautiful bouquets of this flower.

Differents Tips of fungi adorned the green land of the place, between the “Amanita Muscaria”, also renowned like the fly swatter or falsa oronja.

The second special stage of the day (PE Rina) started with some inclination after they arrived at a plain section of a lot of pedalling and ending with sharp steep curves.


This special without a doubt was characterized by being that accumulated more falls in that 2 days, and be the specific circuit began the well-known switchbacks.


Well known Pedro Donoso, who suffered this fall but got up and returned to the competition.

Antonia Würth obtained the second place with a time of 15:58.73 min.

Claus Plaut, First place master b categorie, (14:56.53 min).

Milciades Jaque wins on day 2, ending in up in third position in the general.

Mauricio Taka Acuña, if it were not for this mistake, certainly break the time and win, but was not possible and obtained second place with a time of 13:29.72 min.

And the winner was… Pedro Burns, of the team Trek Subaru, with a time of 13:24.44 min.


Objective fulfilled, for many competitors, a personal challenge was increased by the high physical demand which was required to race and being hardest of the year, why do not say “ruder”, although with our beautiful Valdivianos places we have a lot to deliver with a big race Enduro.
