Three’s a Crowd: EWS Round 3, Ireland - Highlights Video

May 18, 2016
by UCI Mountain Bike World Series
After last year’s amazing event, everyone was looking forward to returning and it didn’t disappoint. The crowds were even bigger and miraculously the sun was also out once again.
Last year we saw local hero Greg Callaghan take the win, the swarming excitable crowds all clearly wanted a repeat. With Tracy Moseley also back for a recess from her retirement, it was always going to be an exciting race to see if these two riders, the crowd, and the venue could repeat last year's magic. We certainly weren’t disappointed. It was drama at every turn.

Great video once again guys. What an awesome bunch of spectators and competitors there were so many great bits of footage showing how likeable the riders are. So cool to hear Cecil Ravenal is missing that extra challenge that Tracey brings her, Rude being bummed Maes also Flatted, Rude just going into full Beast mode and Sam Hill just being Sam Hill. The level of riding is definitely getting better in both the Men and Women's it seems.

And let's not forget Callaghan doing it again in front of his home crowd!

Unbelievable coverage and summary of event. It's exciting to see the battles from within as well as against other riders... Great job EWS.

My observations: Richie Rude is super humble. Ravanel is super stylish. Sam Hill being Sam Hill but in the enduro scene makes me smile a bit.

 Not enough Hill footage.
  • 11 0
Hill was out a full stage ahead of the top 30 pro's, I reckon it was very difficult for the journos to get across the stages that quickly

didn't see any... real disappointing! would love to see some classic foot out flat out sam hill.

@ridesohrdmthrfckrsgonfineme: I just uploaded a very short clip of Sam Hill to my profile that I got from my marshal point on stage 5.

@Mega-Man: You shot it in the Northern Hemisphere is that why it is upside down down here?

Always blown away at the edits produced within a few days of racing. Thanks again for this

 1. Tracy Moseley sandbagging the whole field claiming she's "struggling on the fatigue level" yet still manages to smoke everyone.
2. Martin Maes is probably 100x faster than me even without a back tire.
3. Richie Rude is a beast.
4. Sam Hill!!!!
5. And last but not least; excellent EWS coverage as usual. Love these recaps.

EXCELLENT COVERAGE! Hard not being able to setup cameras for a full show like on Red Bull TV, but this is a great alternative while we wait for DHWC.
  • 22 1
Haha Sam Hill you fucking legend!
  • 1 0
Yeah! I wonder how many looks he gets from riding on flats! Or do his toenails grow down and back?

 Craic........

a Gaelic word, with no exact English translation. The closest you get is “fun." There’s the expression “ceoil agus craic," meaning “music and fun," probably once used by locals to fortify themselves before heading off over an arduous mountain pass to the nearest ceili. Craic doesn’t appear in standard English dictionaries, but enter it as a search term on Google, and 42,500 listings come up. There’s obviously a lot of craic out there.

Do you know what's good craic? GREAT CRAIC!
  • 1 0
Sure ya couldn't beat the craic with a big stick ;-)

This is what the WC DH should model their post race summaries on. Best race coverage I've ever viewed, thanks.
  • 1 0
Agreed - a great "package" as they say in the biz. Really nicely done.

But RC needs to work on his French pronunciation. It's voo-WEE-ohz (or maybe VWEE-ohz), not VOOL-ee-oh. So grating to hear that, round after round, year after year.

@MtbSince84: So in other words, everybody gets it wrong?
  • 13 1
 Ahhhhhh....Sam Hill!
  • 1 0
Right?! I'm so excited to see him back on top, and in the EWS, and on flats? Awesome!

What an epic series this has become, seriously competitive. That footage of Rude flying through the rock garden into that left hander is just mental, im surprised the berm survived, he was hooning! So stoked for Hill and Greg. Amazing re-cap. Stoked to go and ride my bike.
  • 7 0
awesome to see sam hill with a patch of chainsaw stevie for the support of his departure, truely a rightful sportman
  • 5 0
Because EWS doesn't use live timing they wouldn't have been aware Hill was on fire untill late in the race - also, he would've been seeded way down the order because he doesn't regularly race EWS.
  • 1 0
Really? Ews whistler had live timing... maybe that's crankworx only?
  • 1 0
@j-t-g: it updated it every few stages when the riders went through a timing gate on one of the transition climbs
  • 5 0
We want it also to dh nice recap!

First Song at 1:25? Shazam couldn't get it. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 2 0
 I could'nt find it either.
  • 2 0
ya me too i want this song
  • 2 0
 can't find it either :/

Amazing coverage guys - this puts a lot of TV shows to shame! Well done to the production team.
  • 2 0
I'm surprised that none of the riders seem to be using the Schwalbe Procore system... so many of them get knocked out by flats I thought it would be ideal for Enduro racing...?
  • 1 0
 Weight?, complexity?
  • 1 0
Don't forget that last year Josh Carlson flatted using the procore at the beginning of the last stage in Whistler while he was leading the race... It probably just saves your rim in a pinch flat
  • 1 0
@mrpilsen: I'd say complexity would/could be a big issue if you find yourself having to repair one away from the pits.

OTOH, I would be nice if there was a breakdown of riders using the system and how many of them flatted in that section.

Rudes speed down the top of the old dh track. HOLY. SHIT!

@demo811: Thanks, Impressive riding, the crowd cheering almost all over the track, I'd dare to say he didn't choose a single suboptimal line in the whole track, so smooth and fast, I guess he knew his terrain quite well.
  • 2 0
correct me if im wrong, the "official" enduro world series has been around for 4 years or so?

why did the commentator say "this is the 25 race, lets celebrate 1/4 of a century" ?
  • 1 0
presumably he just meant a century being 100 of something, not 100 years in this case, just number of races.
  • 2 0
When I saw Rude go past me on on stage 6 at the bottom he was just seemed to be hauling ass so much more than everyone else, beast of a lad.
  • 3 0
Richie Rude = Incredible Hulk (on a bike). Puny God...
  • 3 0
@GOrtho: Look how fast he is in the video at the top of stage 6. He is easily twice as fast as anyone else into that berm. He rode it exactly how i expected Sam Hill would but didnt.
  • 3 0
What helmet is Richie Rude wearing - Giro bringing out a Super 2R competitor?
  • 3 0
only a couple seconds of sam hill??? why?
  • 1 0
he was ahead of all the pro guys in his set off time, riding different trails to what all the media were getting footage at Frown
  • 2 0
Lovely tribute to stevie, Ireland the nicest country on the planet when the sun is shining like that Smile
  • 1 0
Amazing! Great to see the Nukeproof DH boys killing it! What an awesome event that was!!!!
  • 2 0
woooooooooooow !!! great video !! Smile
  • 1 2
Was it just me or was the sound balance kinda out?! I could barely hear anyone talking and was then deafened by spectators, even the music was louder than the people being interviewed to me.
  • 1 0
Shrug - seemed fine here (on my tinny laptop speakers anyway).
  • 2 0
Anyone know what the music is between 5 & 6 mins?
  • 1 0
Would also like to know what the music at 0m 30s is. Shazam and Music ID not picking it up.
  • 1 0
Why don't the pros carry spares? If a puncture ruins your race then not carrying them seems strange
  • 1 0
Love the video. Race feed is good, bit boring but real live coverage would be the sh*t Smile
  • 1 0
Thanks PinkBike for the fantastic coverage. Edited brilliantly conveying the "coolness" of the EWS.
  • 1 0
gotta put some subtitles to ravanel's speechs, her english is messy
  • 2 0
 Rude is an animal.
  • 1 0
Brilliant coverage PB - keep it up!
  • 1 0
i still feel sadness for stevie.
